Captured By The Cold Detective (BL) - Chapter 375: A Bait?
The first thing Mu Yuze registered as soon as his consciousness surfaced was the fact that he was sitting on a chair with his legs tied up and hands bound behind his back.
His heartbeat kicked up a notch when memories poured into his mind, but he resisted the urge to open his eyes. Instead, he kept his head lowered and slowed his breathing, pretending that he was still anesthetized. He had no idea whether the side effects truly lingered on his system, but he felt like everything was swaying at the moment, back and forth, even the ground beneath his feet.
Where was he...?
His heart shuddered in pain when he recalled the last thing he had seen before everything turned dark. Kitty, she... should be okay, right? There was so, so much blood spurting out of the cat’s body that even the mere reminder of it was enough to make his scalp tingle.
Mu Yuze was a vengeful and petty person to begin with and he’d already had Gun Holder’s appearance kept in mind. The next time Mu Yuze got the chance, he was going to bite off one of the man’s fingers at the very least for what he had done to Kitty!
He jolted lightly when the sound of door being slammed reverberated in the space, followed by the loud crash of sea waves and the unique scent of salt in the air.
Don’t tell him... was he on a ship right now?
"Fuck!" Injured Man cursed a distance away, his voice echoing to where Mu Yuze was. "Just what the hell are we waiting for?!"
Another calmer voice replied, who was none other than the culprit behind the new bruises on Mu Yuze’s body. Mu Yuze would just call him Brute Man. "Boss told us to give it some time until we detect some movements in Xuanlong. We have to muddle and distract XIU as much as possible, remember?"
Mu Yuze’s body tensed when he heard He Juan’s nickname. These people did not seem like they were He Juan’s enemies, but to be exact, it was their employer – or the one they had referred to as ’Boss’. As for Xuanlong... why did it seem like Mu Yuze had heard it somewhere before?
After making sure that the men were indeed a distance away, Mu Yuze cracked his eyelids open and kept his gaze on his lap for a few seconds. Then he started to survey the surroundings as the two continued to chat,
"Distract him?" Injured Man cackled darkly. "How about we cut off that boy’s finger one by one and send it to him every two hours? Won’t it be a very good distraction?"
This time, Brute Man’s tone was grave as he chided the other for his recklessness, "If you want to stay in this line of business for a long time, don’t act out of line, especially without permission! Don’t forget, you are the one who harmed that child the most. If Boss is displeased, do you think you can still receive your payment?!"
Injured Man harrumphed, though he did not sound as powerful as before. "I couldn’t help it. Unruly children irk me the most..."
Mu Yuze’s eyes took in the sight of a cramped enclosed space filled with ice containers and wooden boxes stacked to the ceiling. The only source of light came from the flickering lightbulb above his head, casting a dim yellow glow around. He tilted his head to the side and saw the dark ocean waves slapping against the round window, confirming his earlier suspicion that he was indeed on a ship right now – or to be exact, inside the storage room.
Shivers ran through his whole body, and only then did he realize that he had only been wearing a simple sweater and wool trousers – no shoes. The ground where his bare feet stepped on was freezing, and the low temperature in the air served to chase away the warmth on his body, almost making his teeth rattle.
Frowning, Mu Yuze tried to test the binding around his limbs only to realize with sinking dread that they’re tight and secure around him. No... he refused to stay still like this and waited for He Juan to rescue him like a damsel in distress. He had to do something – anything!
And thus, Mu Yuze stretched his fingers behind his back and started to grope around. Much to his pleasant surprise, he found a nail poking out of the old chair, just within his fingers’ reach. He only needed to wiggle around a bit and—
"Has he woken up yet?"
Mu Yuze stilled at the appearance of the third man. This time, it was Gun Holder!
The two others greeted him as ’Lao Liu’ and said that they had not had the time to check on the boy yet. Upon hearing the approaching footsteps, Mu Yuze hurriedly dropped his head, shut his eyes and stabilized his breathing. He willed his eyelashes not to flutter when he heard the door to the storage room creaked open.
"Still out like a light," Lao Liu commented. "He’s supposed to wake up soon, so keep your eyes on him and make sure that he doesn’t escape. This one sure is feisty. I need to go to the deck. Call me as soon as he’s up." After saying that, he walked away and his footsteps grew fainter and fainter.
Mu Yuze took a slow deep breathing at the same time as Injured Man asked, "There’s no movement from Xuanlong at all. Have we been mistaken all along? Is this child not as important to XIU as we assumed him to be?"
"What do you mean?" Brute Man frowned. "Are you trying to imply that XIU is using this child as bait to pull his enemies out?"
’Don’t listen to them,’ Mu Yuze told himself. ’They knew nothing at all.’
These people did not know He Juan as he did, and thus they had no idea what kind of person He Juan was— how kind, how thoughtful and how gentle he was. How could such an amazing person resort to such a dirty trick? It was utter nonsense.
Again, he cracked his eyes open a bit and when he saw that the two men were engrossed in their conversation and not paying attention to him, he moved his wrists again. Up and down... up and down. Trying to be as still and subtle as possible.
It was quite taxing and he soon felt the muscles on his shoulders ache. He also had difficulty adjusting his position, causing the nail to graze the tender skin of his wrists raw.
But he could not stop now, not when he felt that the rope had begun to loosen.
"Either way..." Mu Yuze was shocked when his chin was suddenly grabbed and his head lifted, but fortunately he still had enough self-preservation instinct to keep his eyes shut. "Look at him," Injured Man’s voice was suddenly close, so close that Mu Yuze could smell his stinky repulsive breath and it caused goosebumps to break out all over his skin. "It’s alright even if he turns out to be a bait. His skin is fair and honestly, he is quite a looker. Hey, do you think this child is going to manifest as an omega?"
Injured Man tilted his head side to side as if inspecting a good, but thanks to the movement, Mu Yuze could finally slash the rope hard against the sharp nail without him noticing, and the final thread broke with a snap.
His hands were finally free!
