Captured By The Cold Detective (BL) - Chapter 351: To The Hospital
Mu Yuze was jolted awake from his sleep when he felt something – or someone – shaking his shoulders. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Spooked, he almost jumped out of the bed before he could even open his eyes, if not for the familiar voice that sounded the very next second, calming down in an instant, "Xiao Ze, wake up. Ugh, I’m so sorry to disturb you at such an ungodly hour..."
Mu Yuze finally deigned to crack his eyes open, still bleary with sleep. "Boss...?" his voice sounded hoarse and a little breathless, his heart still jackrabbiting in his chest from the earlier scare.
The one who was hovering over his bed like a ghost was indeed none other than He Juan. Behind him, moonlight spilled in through the gap of the curtains, drowning his silhouette in deep shadow and in return, making his silvery eyes look lightning bright. Mu Yuze felt his drowsiness scatter under those beautiful eyes and he propped himself up on the elbow to glance at the clock. He was stunned to find that it was only two in the morning. "Why are you..."
He Juan had never entered his room in the middle of the night except for that time when he sang a lullaby to the insomniac Mu Yuze. Did something happen?
Perhaps noticing the confusion and worry on his face, He Juan gently helped him up to a sitting position with an amused smile, "Don’t worry, nothing bad happens but... we are leaving for the hospital now."
Mu Yuze was wide awake now, though it looked like his brain was immersed in the wonderful dreamland for he had difficulty digesting what He Juan had just said. "The hospital?" He echoed with a muddled look. "Now?"
"Now." He Juan swiftly moved to his closet and pulled out a thick coat with fur hood. He turned around and chuckled when he found Mu Yuze still sitting on the bed, looking so sleep rumpled and adorably confused that he couldn’t resist pinching the soft cheek. "Okay, spread your arms for Gege. The snow is a little heavier today. We don’t want you to catch a cold, do we?"
Still a tad disoriented, Mu Yuze obediently opened his arms and let He Juan slip the coat on him. "Good boy," He Juan chuckled again and ran his fingers through Mu Yuze’s bird nest hair to smooth the unruly strands down. "Let’s go. The car has been waiting for us downstairs."
Everything was happening so fast for Mu Yuze to wrap his head around it. One second, he was still sleeping under the comforting cocoon of his fluffy blanket and the next second, he was sitting snugly inside the car with the fierce snowstorm howling outside the window.
He Juan slid in beside him and pulled the door closed. "Let’s go," he told the driver.
Mu Yuze raised his head and saw that sitting behind the wheel was someone he had never seen before. With a nod, the fierce-looking man started the car and slowly drove through the desolate street amidst the heavy fall of snow.
Chewing on his bottom lip, Mu Yuze hesitantly sidled up closer to He Juan and craned his neck to whisper into his ear, "We are really going to the hospital? At a time like this?" He was afraid that he had heard wrong when he was still muddled with sleep earlier.
"That’s right," He Juan replied with a mirthful smile on the corner of his lips, most likely amused by the timidity Mu Yuze showed in front of a stranger. Then he reached out to hold the back of Mu Yuze’s head and nudged it toward his shoulder. "If you’re sleepy, then go ahead and take a nap first. This will take at least one hour. Gege will wake you up once we get there."
How was Mu Yuze supposed to sleep in the presence of a stranger? Somehow, he could tell that this man was different compared to He Juan’s so-called assistant he had gotten acquaintanced with, Mr. Chen. Not only because of the heavy aura around his body, but also the way he faced He Juan – full of respect, reverence and a hint of fear.
It seemed like everyone whom he had met – except for Doctor Jia and Mr. Chen – would always look at He Juan with fear in their eyes. Oh wait, there was also another person in exception to that, it was the beautiful omega who had offered himself to—
Mu Yuze quickly shook his head to stop his mind from straying to a wild direction. Right now, what he wanted to know was why they were going to the hospital at such a wee hour in the morning! Alas, he had a hunch that He Juan would not tell him the truth if he asked, so he could only sulk, leaned his head comfortably on He Juan’s shoulder and closed his eyes, pretending to sleep.
True to He Juan’s words, the car stopped in front of a tall building around an hour later.
Mu Yuze peered out of the window and saw a large glowing sign hanging above – ’Shunan Hospital Center’. Even though the lights in the building were still on, it still could not disperse the air of bleakness brought by the pitch black sky and torrential blizzard. Mu Yuze gave an involuntary shiver when he recalled various horror stories taking place in the hospital, starting from the echoing sound of crying baby, the appearance of a man covered in bloody bandages like mummy while dragging his broken leg down the hallway—
"Xiao Ze."
Mu Yuze flinched in shock and turned to find He Juan looking at him worriedly. "Are you okay?"
"I–I’m fine," he said while clutching his own chest as if he could keep his wildly beating heart still this way. He couldn’t possibly tell He Juan that he had been frightened by his own imagination, right?
Instead of stopping in front of the bright entrance, the car continued to go down into the underground parking lot where the light was dim and flickered once in a while. Only a few sparse cars were parked on the whole floor and the dark corners made it seem like something – or someone – could jump out at any time.
(If He Juan noticed how Mu Yuze silently scooted himself closer in search of comfort, then he did not say anything.)
Two people were already waiting for them in front of the elevator while chatting with each other. One was a white-haired man in white coat with an identity tag pinned on his chest pocket, while the other was Jia Molei.
This was the first time Mu Yuze had ever seen him without a white coat and his style was surprisingly... homey. He was clad in a thick maroon sweater that complimented the red streaks of his hair, paired with black slacks and shiny loafers, looking every inch like a senior graduate who had come for an internship.
Amidst the foreign surroundings, the appearance of another familiar face sent a sliver of relief to Mu Yuze’s heart – of course, he would rather die than to let the doctor know.
"We are here," He Juan said as the car halted right in front of the elevator. He turned to Mu Yuze and pulled on the fur hood over Mu Yuze’s head, his tone was extremely solemn as he instructed, "Don’t ever take this off unless I tell you to, understand?"
Mu Yuze blinked at him, puzzled. ’Why?’ he wanted to ask. Yet again, something told him that He Juan would not give him the real answer, so he could only nod. "Mn."
"Good boy." He Juan smiled in satisfaction. "Let’s go."
