Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)
Chapter 233: Link Between Cases
It was yet another sleepless night for the officers in Yuyang Municipal Bureau.
First, the hospital’s security guard had caught someone sneaking into the electrical control room to cut off the power to the entire building. That person’s fighting skill was treacherous, sharp and not to be trifled with. In the end, it took five security guards to take him down and bring him under control. Even though the power was quickly restored thirty minutes later, the entire hospital had been plunged into unnecessary chaos and panic.
At the same time, the surveillance cameras in a few departments were down, the screen became pixelated and grainy like an old television which had lost its signal. It covered quite a large area, including but not limited to the Outpatient department, Neurology Department, Pheromones Department, even the VIP area was not spared! Until now, the workers could not pinpoint the source of the problem. However, it was suspected that some sort of interference item was involved here.
These two events were already quite bizarre to begin with when investigated separately. At first glance, they did not seem to hold any correlation whatsoever. However, everything changed when a report came in from the isolation ward in the Pheromones Department.
Two police officers were knocked unconscious and the patient, whom they were supposed to watch over, had lost control of his pheromones and had to be kept under tranquilizer for the time being! And worse, the officers claimed that they had not sensed anything amiss before they passed out! What did it mean? It meant that whoever had snuck into Wu Yuan’s isolation room and caused him to lose control of himself was someone with superb fighting capability exceeding that of a trained Alpha!
Just as everyone in the Violent Crime and Narcotics Division was still reeling from this revelation, they received another shocking news.
The person who snuck into the hospital’s electrical control room to cut off the main power had been identified and... it was none other than Cui Yan!
"What?!" Captain Li Zhi cried out in shock once he heard the news. "How is it possible? Cui Yan is our main suspect for Qin Zhen’s murder. Why would he be involved with Wu Yuan now?!"
He just could not wrap his head around this fact. So far, Qin Zhen and Wu Liang’s murders were separate cases that were not connected to each other. One was the victim of an obnoxious imposter who was suspected to be related to Xuanlong, whereas the other was a drug addict who was killed by his own son. But now, because of Cui Yan’s appearance... a solid line has been formed to link these two cases to each other!
Could it be... did Wu Liang’s death have something to do with Xuanlong as well?
Li Zhi’s mind raced with countless thoughts. Once, Captain Rong had relayed his suspicion that Wu Liang was silenced, but because of the lack of evidence, they could only focus their investigation on his son, Wu Yuan, for the time being. If Wu Liang’s death was related to Xuanlong, then wouldn’t it mean that Rong Simo’s suspicion was true? Had Wu Liang really been killed in order to protect the identity of the drug lord in Yuyang? But if that was the case, then they also had to suspect that there was a traitor in the Narcotics Division who had passed on the news of the ambush to the other side...
Chills ran down Li Zhi’s spine at the thought. "Where is Rong Simo?" He asked the officer who had come to relay the news.
"Captain Rong has been notified as well. He has expressed the desire to interrogate Cui Yan in person. But so far, Director Zhang has not given his approval yet."
Since the appearance of the imposter, Director Zhang had been keeping close eye to the progress of the case. The main decision maker was no longer in Li Zhi or Rong Simo’s hands, but they had to go through Director Zhang first.
Li Zhi rubbed his face and finished his lukewarm coffee in order to sober himself up for the long night. "Okay, in the usual monitor room, right? Tell Director Zhang and Captain Rong that I will head there in a minute."
"Yes, Sir!" The officer gave his salute before rushing out of the office.
Li Zhi exited after a while and made a beeline to Kang Guanyu, rapping his knuckles on the table. "The DNA analysis report from Jia Molei’s house is still not ready?"
Kang Guanyu shook his head. "Not yet..."
"Any news from the traffic police?"
He answered restlessly, "Still nothing, Capt."
Li Zhi heaved out a sigh. So they were stuck waiting for the traffic police to track the imposter’s car down, and for the data analyst to finish sorting out the DNAs found in Jia Molei’s house. "Okay, good work." He patted Kang Guanyu’s head in passing. "Tell me as soon as you get the news. I will be in the monitor room with Rong Simo and the others."
When Li Zhi got there, Rong Simo had finished two cigarette sticks and was currently on his third one. The window was opened wide for ventilation, yet the scent of tobacco still lingered in the air. Li Zhi cast him a speechless look. "Can you cut it out a bit?"
"No," Rong Simo said curtly. "Li Zhi, I’m about to lose my job here. If you’re in my position, can you still hold back the urge to smoke?"
Ah, that’s right. If it was proven that a traitor indeed existed in the Narcotics Division, then Rong Simo, as the Captain, would be punished first and foremost for the lack of capability to manage his subordinates, causing the police to lose a precious chance to apprehend the drug lord in Yuyang. Losing his job was an exaggeration. At most, he would be fined with half a year of salary. But when Li Zhi pondered more about it, such a punishment did not seem much different from being fired. He patted Rong Simo’s shoulder in sympathy.
He glanced around the room and saw only two technicians aside from them. "Clear?"
The matter about the traitor was only a conjecture they had brought up in a private meeting. He was certain that Rong Simo had not even discussed it with Director Zhang yet. But now that they were slapped with this fact, they had to be more cautious in their actions and words. Li Zhi’s heart felt heavy just by thinking about it. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
The police station was supposed to be their sacred place. It was their home ground, the sanctuary of justice where they could unleash their heroic spirit and passion to chase after the ultimate truth. But if they couldn’t even feel safe in their own home... what should they do?
Rong Simo gave a grunt, his expression somber.
Sighing, Li Zhi finally turned his gaze to Cui Yan who was sitting in the interrogation room. The man’s attire was slightly disheveled from his tussle with the hospital’s security guards, but aside from that he looked totally unruffled. As if he was not the fugitive whose information had been recorded in every police station in the country.
Li Zhi narrowed his eyes and commented, "He looks very calm."
"No shit," Rong Simo sneered. "He has been acting like this from the start. It’s like he’s treating this place as his house or something!" The words were forced out through gritted teeth, muffled due to the cigarette on his lips. It was apparent how furious Rong Simo was right now.
Before Li Zhi could say anything in reply, the door opened and Tak Jung-Hwa popped his head in, a courteous smile on his lips. "Hello, may I join you guys?"
"Mr. Tak." Li Zhi was briefly taken aback before he recalled that Tak Jung-Hwa had been chasing after Cui Yan in the first place, even before they discovered Qin Zhen’s corpse. Of course he would want to watch the proceedings. Moreover, out of all the people in the Bureau, Tak Jung-Hwa would be the first one to be crossed out from the list of possible traitors. Li Zhi’d rather put his trust on this man. "Sure, come in."
Tak Jung-Hwa entered and closed the door behind him. He glanced at Cui Yan and a sharp light flashed through his eyes. "So this is a former member of Xuanlong, huh..."
