Chapter 232: Until Then
Wu Yuan stared at him blankly.
He had no idea about the part where he was not affected by Alphas’ pheromones because he had never been exposed to them before. However, it was indeed true that he very seldom got sick. His small injuries and bruises usually disappeared overnight, but he had never thought much about it. He had assumed that... he was simply born with a healthy and quick metabolism. There was a saying that children who had rough childhood would grow up stronger and healthier than their peers. Because there was nobody who could care about them. Nobody would cherish and treasure them, so they could only rely on themselves and no one else. And Wu Yuan was just like that...
... or so he had always thought.
"No..." he shook his head stubbornly, a hollow laugh escaping his lips. "I don’t believe you... I don’t believe..."
Luo Xuan showed no traces of surprise on his face as if he had seen this coming. Wu Yuan was smart, quick-witted and perceptive. He had grown up enduring his father’s abuse, so he was also more resilient than others. However, this kind of person was also extremely fragile. As long as their beliefs were broken, then the very core of their existence would shatter as well.
And Luo Xuan perceived it keenly. Wu Yuan was on the verge of breaking apart.
Deep down, the teenager had actually been swayed by his words. However, he had no way of trusting Luo Xuan’s words right now. First and foremost, because Luo Xuan was a complete stranger who suddenly showed up out of nowhere. Second, Luo Xuan could not give him concrete evidence and third, Luo Xuan had caused him to doubt the beliefs he had been holding on to all his life. All of the reasons above were more than sufficient for his subconsciousness to reject the reality shown to him.
"Then," Luo Xuan asked. "Will you believe it if it comes from the person you trust wholeheartedly, for example... your Teacher He?"
Wu Yuan snapped his head up, his expression almost deranged. "T–Teacher He? What does he have to do with... with you, with all of this?"
But Luo Xuan merely smiled and shook his head. It was still too early to tell Wu Yuan everything. "Your Teacher He..." he chose his words carefully. "He will be the one who proves that every single word I say tonight is nothing but the truth. Wu Yuan, mutated people like you... like us... we are destined to kill the parents who have given birth to us. We are destined to be feared, to be revered and respected. We are destined... to stand above superior beings."
Wu Yuan instantly caught on to the crux of the sentence. "’Like us’...? W–What do you mean... you are also..." he trailed off, unable to finish the rest of his sentence anymore. The shock he received tonight had exceeded everything he had gone through for the past sixteen years of his life. Black dotted his vision and he could not even breathe properly.
Luo Xuan had just opened his mouth when his phone gave a beep to remind him of the time. He put on a regretful expression. "Too bad, it seems like I have to cut our meeting short."
"W–Wait...!" Wu Yuan exclaimed, flustered, when he saw that Luo Xuan was turning his wheelchair toward the door. He wanted to grab onto Luo Xuan, but in the end, his knees gave up before he could even stand. He did not even have the energy to get up anymore. A wretched sob slipped off his lips. "What should I do... What should I do now?"
"Wu Yuan, you have two choices." Luo Xuan told him in a calm and systematic manner. "First, you can wait until you’re sent into a drug rehabilitation center and you will eventually realize that I have not lied to you. However, I personally do not commend this choice, because by the time you realize it, the government would have caught wind of your existence. They will strive to get rid of you, just like how they did toward all of the experimental babies back then. Second..." his pale lips curved into a kind smile. "Come with me. This world no longer has a place for you. But with my own hands..." he clenched his fists and his eyes blazed with striking determination that was so dazzling against his sickly appearance. "I will carve a place on this Earth where our people can live without fearing tomorrow."
"Y–You are..."
Luo Xuan closed his eyes, sighed in resignation and finally revealed some truths about himself, "I am... one of the experimental babies from the very first batch of the experiment. One of the few who managed to survive past the manifestation period, one of the few who survived the large-scale hunt and also... the only one who manifested into an omega."
"Until then, Wu Yuan."
Luo Xuan retreated from the isolation room and the lights returned a few minutes later. However, Wu Yuan was still sitting on the ground as if his time and space had been suspended, his vacant gaze transfixed on the door where Luo Xuan had disappeared into. He only snapped back to his senses when a series of footsteps sounded from the hallway, followed by a surprised exclamation. "Oh my God, what happened to them?!"
A ruckus erupted over the two police officers who were still sprawled on the ground, unconscious.
The door to Wu Yuan’s isolation room was slammed open and someone barrelled in straight toward him. "Wu Yuan!" A strong force grabbed his shoulders and forced him to focus. "Wu Yuan, are you okay? What’s going on here? Was someone here just now?!"
Wu Yuan looked up blankly and it took him a few seconds to register that it was Doctor Tang who was asking him questions.
His pupils shook and his lips parted without a word. In the next second, the agitated pheromones of a superior Alpha exploded out of him, sending Doctor Tang flying a few steps backward. Wild and uncontrollable. Gasping, the middle-aged doctor clutched his chest and coughed, blood seeping out from the corner of his lips. He hollered toward the nurses, "Tranquilizer, hurry!"
Wu Yuan buried his head to his knees and wrapped his arms tightly around himself as if he could make himself disappear this way. He did not even register the chaos around him, nor the torrent of violent pheromones that poured out of him. Sour. Salty... just like tears. Yet Wu Yuan’s eyes remained dry and bloodshot.
Who should he trust? Who could he trust? Who could tell him what he was supposed to do from now on...?
Teacher He... the thought of the warm and gentle teacher slipped into his mind as someone administered tranquilizer into him. His eyelids started to droop and he let himself be dragged into the pitch-black darkness where he could free himself of all burden and worry.
Teacher He, help me... please help me...
