He Juan’s heart almost stopped beating when he heard this.

Sometimes, he suspected that Mu Yuze must be doing it on purpose. Catching him off guard, almost giving him a heart attack, then relishing in his reaction... he must be enjoying how flustered He Juan was over his little adorable quirks and endearing straight balls.

Alas, there was really nothing He Juan could do about it. Who told him to love this man so much?

"Give you a mark..." It was not until the voice came out of his mouth did he realize how strained it sounded. As if there was an invisible string tightening around his neck bit by bit. His gaze involuntarily dropped to Mu Yuze’s nape which was, fortunately, covered by bandages. Otherwise He Juan had no idea what he would do – chomping down on it, perhaps? "You mean... temporary mark?"

He Juan would not be so naïve to think that Mu Yuze wanted a permanent mark from him. After all, it was a sacred, solemn ritual that would last for a lifetime, even more important than marriage itself. A permanent mark would bound them forever. No takebacks.

Of course, He Juan wanted it so, so much. He wanted it with every fiber of his cell, with every breath he took, with every pulse on his beating heart. But... Mu Yuze was still so young. He was only twenty four. Even omega nowadays would wait until they were at least twenty seven or twenty eight before deciding on a marriage, let alone a permanent mark.

Three years. He had been ready to court Mu Yuze for at least three years.

Until Mu Yuze could see what kind of mess he would be getting himself into once he was marked by He Juan. Until Mu Yuze could see what kind of flaw was hidden beneath his gentle exterior and was certain that the Alpha he wanted was He Juan.

Oh He Juan could be patient. Though it would be agonizing for sure, he was willing to wait until this little fruit was ripe for him to take.

Because once he sank his teeth into Mu Yuze’s gland... once he injected his pheromones into Mu Yuze’s system, once he declared sovereignty over Mu Yuze’s alluring body, he was certain that he would not let this omega go – not anymore. Even if Mu Yuze were to regret, cry or hate him one day, He Juan would tie him to his side even if he had to do it by force. Forever. That was what his Alpha nature dictated him to do.

Mu Yuze let out a muffled noise that was somewhere between ’hmph’ or ’mrrgh’, then he said, "...I will take whatever mark Gege gives me."

He Juan stilled. Did he mean... oh dear God...

He took a deep inhale, his chest expanding and bringing Mu Yuze along with it. "You..." one of his palms supporting the back of Mu Yuze’s neck and the other pinching Mu Yuze’s chin, he lifted Mu Yuze’s head so they could look each other in the eye. A faint growl was rising on He Juan’s throat and he was certain that his pupils had become absolutely blown from what he had just heard. It couldn’t be possible, right? Mu Yuze, he... "Tell me the truth," his voice dropped to an all-time low, enticing. Commanding. "What kind of mark do you want? Hmm?"

From such a close proximity, there was no way Mu Yuze could hide anything from He Juan. His unspoken desire, the hidden longing and the unbearable shame... all of them were reflected on the faint glimmer of his eyes.

Mu Yuze’s lashes quivered as his warm breath brushed against He Juan’s chin. He had become a nervous wreck. "If... If I say that I want a permanent mark..."

"—hiss!" He Juan sucked in cold air, his eyes screwing shut. He had sensed the reluctance in Mu Yuze’s previous reply and guessed that the omega might want something else. But a permanent mark? Oh God, he... how could he just... He Juan took in a few mouthfuls of air. It was fortunate that both of them were strictly prohibited from releasing their pheromones, and the air in the ICU ward smelled heavily of disinfectant which He Juan disliked the most, otherwise... he might have...

He opened his eyes and gazed deeply into Mu Yuze’s eyes. "Do you know... what it means to have a permanent mark, Precious?" He rubbed his thumb over Mu Yuze’s chin, watching intently as that tiny patch of skin was suffused with a pretty pink hue. "You will be bonded to me. You will be trapped with me, forever. Visible shudders ran down Mu Yuze’s spine and the part of his body that was pressing against He Juan’s thigh started to undergo some changes. His tongue darted out to lick his lips out of nervousness.

He Juan’s silver eyes darkened. Clearly, this was an inappropriate location and an inappropriate time, someone could literally walk in on them in the next second, but it did not hinder He Juan from reacting to Mu Yuze’s arousal. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Amidst the pungent and thick smell of disinfectant, he could sniff a seductive and mouth-watering aroma. He instantly knew what it was... because he had savored it once before. It was the sweet scent of Mu Yuze’s slick. Hell, he could almost taste it on the tip of his tongue.

"Oh..." He Juan felt like the breath had been punched out of his lungs as realization suddenly dawned on him. "You want it, don’t you? You want to be claimed by me, want to be owned by me..."

Mu Yuze’s answer was barely a whisper, "...yes."

There was more he did not say though, yet the words ended up stuck on his throat. ’I have been waiting for so long... longer than you could have imagined. I wish for nothing but to become yours... yours to taste, yours to claim, yours to mark. Yours.’

"But Precious..." He Juan huffed a small chuckle, his tone bitter. "You don’t even know what kind of person I am." He had not told Mu Yuze about how he discovered his past among the photos in Miss Zhao’s box, about how he might have been a bad guy before he lost his memory, about how someone was out for his life right now...

Mu Yuze was a police officer. He was fated to stand on the side of justice and law. If... If there came a day when He Juan’s past was exposed...

He Juan’s heart sank at the mere thought of it. How could he possibly ask Mu Yuze to choose between his duty and his Alpha?
