Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 99: Divorce
So, they were finally divorced.
Wren Wynter could finally breathe a sigh of relief, yet an indescribable feeling lingered in her heart.
"Thank you for your trouble, Lawyer Hale."
"Miss Wynter." Hugh Hale hesitated, looking as if he wanted to say something. "Have you seen Crystal recently? How is she?"
Wren recalled seeing Crystal Nash at the bar the other day. Although she was also troubled by love, she didn’t seem to be doing too poorly.
"She’s doing fine, Lawyer Hale. Crystal can’t let go of the past. Since that’s the case, it’s better for you two to just let each other go."
Hugh Hale fell silent, said nothing more, and left.
"Miss, what should we do with Sir’s belongings?"
"Just pack them all up for him. He’ll send someone to pick them up."
Wren Wynter put away the divorce papers, went upstairs to take a shower, changed her clothes, and fell into a comfortable sleep.
Early the next morning, Kaden Xavier had his assistant come and take his things away. Meanwhile, Wren Wynter happily finished her breakfast, preparing to make a trip to Moonwater Villa.
She took a car to Moonwater Villa and walked inside. Her mentor’s wife, Linda Lynch, was in the garden trimming some medicinal herbs.
"Mrs. Lynch!"
"Wren, you’re here! To see your professor, I assume? He’s in his study. You can go right in."
Linda Lynch put down her shears and said to Wren Wynter with a smile.
"Okay!"
Wren waved goodbye to Linda Lynch and headed straight for the study.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
"Enter."
Wren Wynter pushed open the study door and tiptoed inside.
"Professor."
Julian Hawthorne’s hand paused as he turned a page. He slowly looked up, his shrewd eyes landing on her.
"Professor, I’ve completed the surgery you assigned me. Here are the patient’s files and medical records."
Wren Wynter placed a file folder in front of Julian Hawthorne. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Julian Hawthorne put down his book, opened the folder, and carefully examined its contents.
This was a chance he had given Wren Wynter, but it was also a test.
He wanted to know if, after three years, she had forgotten what he had taught her.
The day the surgery succeeded, the hospital director had called him, endlessly praising Wren Wynter’s superb technique and masterful skill.
But in his eyes, this was merely the minimum standard for being his student.
He set down the files, his voice stern. "You haven’t embarrassed me, I’ll give you that."
Wren’s heart leaped with joy. ’Has the professor forgiven me?’
She immediately ran to Julian Hawthorne’s side and, eager to please, began to massage his shoulders with an ingratiating smile on her face.
"Professor, it’s all thanks to your guidance! If you hadn’t taught me so much, how could I have completed this surgery so perfectly? In the end, the credit is all yours."
Julian Hawthorne’s white eyebrows furrowed. He gruffly waved his hand, knocking hers off his shoulder.
"Enough with that act. Don’t think this will make me forgive you for what happened back then. Hmph. What poor judgment, falling for a man like that."
"Yes, yes, you’re right to scold me, Professor."
’I have to admit it,’ Wren thought. ’I’m a poor judge of character. I was blind back then. If I hadn’t married so early, my accomplishments today might have already surpassed the professor’s.’
"Alright, if there’s nothing else, go and spend some time with Mrs. Lynch. I need to get back to my book."
"You got it!"
Wren Wynter was in an excellent mood. Although being framed by Seraphina Sutton was infuriating, not only had she gotten divorced in the past two days, but she could also return to her professor’s side for advanced study.
"Oh, right, Professor. I might be back a few days late."
"Hm?"
Julian Hawthorne raised an eyebrow, a flicker of displeasure on his face, as if questioning her reason.
"I have to perform a surgery in the next couple of days. I want to come back after it’s done."
"Yes, I was abroad before and only recently returned to the country."
"I see."
Julian Hawthorne didn’t press further, and Wren Wynter took the hint and left the study.
She went to the garden and chatted with Linda Lynch for a while. Linda invited her to stay for lunch at the villa, but Wren still planned to visit the hospital, so she declined.
As she was leaving, Linda Lynch gave her several homemade dishes and some fruits and vegetables from the garden.
Wren Wynter was deeply touched. She watched Linda Lynch go back inside the villa.
Just as she was about to call a cab to leave, Leo Crowe’s voice came from the side.
"Junior, you came to see the professor."
Leo Crowe walked over, carrying several packets of medicine. His eyes lit up when he saw Wren. "Junior! Here to see the professor?"
Wren nodded. "Mhm, I was just updating the professor on a surgery."
"I heard your aunt was hospitalized?" Leo Crowe asked with concern. "How is she doing?"
"She’s alright, but she needs an operation," Wren said. "I was just about to head back to the hospital to see her."
"What a coincidence, I’m heading back to the hospital too," Leo Crowe said with a smile. "Let me give you a ride. There’s something I wanted to talk to you about anyway."
Wren hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Third Senior."
Leo Crowe drove a black SUV. The interior was very clean, filled with the faint scent of medicinal herbs.
The car pulled out of Moonwater Villa. Wren watched the scenery fly by outside the window, her heart calm.
"Junior, it’s the professor’s birthday in a few days," Leo Crowe said suddenly. "A few of us are planning to throw him a birthday dinner at his favorite private kitchen restaurant. You have to be there."
Wren was a little surprised. "The professor’s birthday?"
"Yeah, time flies, doesn’t it," Leo Crowe said with a sigh. "It feels like just yesterday we completed our apprenticeships, and now it’s been so many years. The professor is getting older, too. We have to celebrate properly for him this time."
He took a card from his pocket and handed it to Wren. "Here’s the address and time. Don’t be late."
Wren took the card. The address was for a private kitchen restaurant in Esterlyn. She nodded. "Okay, I’ll be there on time."
The car soon arrived at the hospital. After saying goodbye to Leo Crowe, Wren went to see her aunt.
Grace Wynter had already finished her pre-operative checkup and was in good spirits. When she saw Wren arrive, she grabbed her hand and they talked for a long time.
As she was leaving the hospital room, Wren Wynter received a call from Kaden Xavier.
"Come to my office," Kaden Xavier’s voice was calm. "We need to sign some property transfer and asset division agreements."
Wren was taken aback for a moment. "Didn’t we agree to handle this after the cooling-off period?"
"Let’s sign them now to save trouble later," Kaden Xavier said. "Just come over. I’ll be waiting for you in my office."
Wren hesitated but agreed.
’Since we’ve already decided to divorce, these things have to be dealt with sooner or later. It’s better to get it over with.’
She took a taxi to the Xavier Group.
This was her first time coming to this place since the divorce. Standing beneath the skyscraper that pierced the clouds, a complex mix of emotions washed over her.
Wren Wynter took a deep breath and walked into the building.
The receptionist recognized her, greeted her respectfully, and led her to the private elevator.
The elevator went directly to the CEO’s office on the top floor.
Wren stepped out of the elevator and saw Assistant Lynch already waiting by the door.
"Mrs... Miss Wynter, Mr. Xavier is waiting for you inside."
