Back To The 80s - Chapter 274 - 284: Fighting Trash (Boring Su Su and Shi Bi Added More)_1
Upon hearing these words, Gu Xiaobei’s mind exploded. What she most dreaded now was death, and yet here was Jiang Jiayan, repeatedly provoking her right here. If she, Gu Xiaobei, held back, she would really die of frustration.
She abruptly turned around, her eyes aflame as she glared at Jiang Jiayan. She marched straight up to her and gave her a fierce slap on the face.
Jiang Jiayan was a bit stunned by the slap. In her experience, women bickered and could do so all morning without ever laying a hand on each other. But this Gu Xiaobei, she had only said one sentence before rushing over to slap her.
At this moment, everyone coming and going through the hospital lobby stopped in their tracks to unconsciously gather around the scene.
Jiang Jiayan covered her face, feeling utterly humiliated by the crowd’s gaze. She rushed angrily towards Gu Xiaobei.
Gu Xiaobei, who was a bit smaller in size, saw Jiang Jiayan’s attack and raised her hand defiantly towards Jiang Jiayan’s face. Unfortunately, since she had been taking care of her baby recently, her fingernails were all trimmed short. Otherwise, she could have scratched Jiang Jiayan’s face badly.
Jiang Jiayan, who had grown up only engaging in verbal fights and had never experienced hardship, was fighting physically for the first time. She instinctively reached out and grabbed Gu Xiaobei’s hair, yanking it back. Gu Xiaobei, meanwhile, was scratching at her face. The pain caused Jiang Jiayan to scream out.
Gu Xiaobei’s hair was pulled hard, causing her some pain. She didn’t dare to exert too much force. Gritting her teeth, she used the momentum of Jiang Jiayan’s pull to launch herself towards Jiang Jiayan, her hand tightly gripping Jiang Jiayan’s neck.
Gu Xiaobei has long hair, and quite a bit of it had come loose from Jiang Jiayan’s pulling. Seeing an opportunity, she twisted her head and bit down hard on Jiang Jiayan’s wrist, using all her strength in the hopes of biting a hole in it.
Jiang Jiayan cried out in pain but refused to let go of Gu Xiaobei’s hair. Both of them remained locked in this stalemate until two healthcare workers came over and separated them.
Gu Xiaobei had lost a lock of hair from the scuffle, and her mouth was stained with blood. Her eyes were wide open, staring fiercely at Jiang Jiayan.
Jiang Jiayan’s face was marked with a few red streaks from the scratches, and her wrist was bleeding from the bite. She was crying as she cursed, "You shrew! What did I ever do to you? You hit me. If you dare, just wait here."
Gu Xiaobei wiped the blood from her mouth with the back of her hand and snorted coldly, "I’m right here waiting. Do whatever you want."
Lu Zhanguo, who had been in the hospital room and was concerned about Gu Xiaobei not coming back, slowly walked downstairs to look for her. As he arrived at the first-floor lobby, he saw a crowd and heard his wife’s voice. He quickly walked up, causing his wound to throb slightly, but he didn’t care.
He pushed through the crowd and saw Gu Xiaobei with disheveled hair, her small face stubbornly staring at the equally disheveled woman across her. He was amazed at how they had gotten into a fight in such a short time. He hurried forward, anxiously saying, "What happened? Are you hurt anywhere?"
As soon as Gu Xiaobei saw Lu Zhanguo, her eyes turned red. Her scalp was starting to ache now. She pouted and said, "I was just paying, and accidentally got bitten by a dog."
Jiang Jiayan saw that Lu Zhanguo looked unwell, but his imposing aura couldn’t be hidden. She was a little scared but retorted stubbornly, "It was clearly you who started it. I am the one who was bitten by a mad dog."
Lu Zhanguo, with a deadpan expression, stared coldly at Jiang Jiayan. If it weren’t for the fact that he shouldn’t hit a woman, he would have loved nothing more than to kick this woman away.
Jiang Jiayan was intimidated by his gaze and unconsciously took a step back, but she still stubbornly said, "It’s true, everyone saw that you started it."
Gu Xiaobei looked at the people around who didn’t know the truth. Just now, it was indeed her who started the fight, and it looked like Jiang Jiayan was worse off. If she didn’t make things clear, Jiang Jiayan would have something to gloat over in the future.
Gu Xiaobei glared at Jiang Jiayan and slowly spoke up, "Why did I hit you? Why don’t you tell? Would I attack you without a reason?"
Jiang Jiayan justified herself confidently, "I kindly reminded you that getting treated in the city is expensive, what’s wrong with that?"
Gu Xiaobei raised an eyebrow, "Oh, is that so? You kindly even told me how to get to the wreath shop. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?"
Jiang Jiayan denied it, "When did I talk about a wreath shop? I was only telling you that hospital bills are expensive."
"How would you know whether I can afford the treatment? And how would you know what disease I’m suffering from? And you’re just so kind to remind me?" Gu Xiaobei shot back with a series of questions, leaving Jiang Jiayan baffled.
"I saw that you didn’t look well, so I kindly reminded you. Is there anything wrong with that?" Jiang Jiayan defended loudly.
Gu Xiaobei nodded, "That’s right, I didn’t look well, so you concluded that someone in my family just got a disease that costs a lot to treat? You’re indeed thoughtful."
The people around weren’t fools. Everyone who comes to the hospital is sick, regardless of the severity of their illness, and nobody wants to maximize their disease’s severity. This "kind" reminder was obviously just an insult.
Gu Xiaobei was too tired to continue arguing with Jiang Jiayan. She addressed the onlookers, "My husband is a soldier who got seriously injured on duty. How could my face look good? This kind-hearted person, fearing that I won’t be able to afford treatment, reminded me to hurry up and prepare for the worst by visiting the wreath shop next to the hospital. Could I really just stand that?" Gu Xiaobei choked slightly as she spoke, now genuinely upset.
Since this was a military hospital, many of the onlookers were military dependents and personnel. Hearing her words, they all cast angry glances at Jiang Jiayan. This was an era that worshipped heroes, and Jiang Jiayan’s words undoubtedly aroused public outrage.
Jiang Jiayan never expected that Gu Xiaobei’s husband was a soldier, a hero. She was instantly flustered. Covering her face, she ran through the crowd and out of the hospital.
Lu Zhanguo had been quiet with a stern expression throughout the episode. Once the crowd dispersed, he looked at Gu Xiaobei and said, "You don’t have to bother with her. What if you injured yourself?"
Gu Xiaobei dismissively responded, "The first time she said it, I ignored her. But then she persisted. I can’t just let people talk about you."
Lu Zhanguo started fixing Gu Xiaobei’’s messy hair, confused, "How do you know her?"
Gu Xiaobei sighed, "I have a karmic relationship with her that spans three lifetimes. She is Editor Jiang’s sister. I ran into her the last time I came to the city alone."
"Why did you come down? You wait for me downstairs. I’ll go up and pack the things, and we’ll go home. We’ve been delayed for quite a while now, Mo Wang and Xiaopang must be getting hungry."
She made Lu Zhanguo sit on the bench by the lobby walls and quickly ran upstairs to pack.
They had been delayed by Jiang Jiayan for a long time. The two children must have woken up and started crying at home. Thinking of her kids crying, Gu Xiaobei mentally cursed Jiang Jiayan again.
As soon as Gu Xiaobei and Lu Zhanguo reached the first floor, they could hear Xiaopang’s heartbreaking cries. Gu Xiaobei said sympathetically, "This little girl is so young but already so attached to people. When she wakes up, she only wants me."
Upon hearing his daughter’s cries, Lu Zhanguo was also anxious and wanted to walk upstairs quickly. But Gu Xiaobei stopped him, saying, "You just take your time, one step at a time. There’s nothing wrong, Xiaopang has good lungs."
