Lu Zhanguo had been through numerous life-and-death battles, the scenes of bloodshed he had witnessed far more severe and tragic than the current situation. But at this moment, he felt a pain that was suffocating.

After director Liu had checked the wounds and applied medication and fresh bandages, he looked at the person lying on the ground and said, "Such a disguise, it’s likely she’s here to steal the baby. People like her, deserved to be shot."

A nurse on her way out of the room quietly kicked the thief lying on the ground.

After the doctor left, Lu Zhanguo looked at Xiaobei’s pale little face, and couldn’t help feeling fearful. If he had been just a moment later, something bad would have happened to Xiaobei, and he feared their child would have been lost too.

Thinking of this, rage rose again in Lu Zhanguo’s eyes. He glared at the unmoving thief on the ground, a murderous intent brewing in his heart. He walked over with bloodshot eyes, grabbed the thief by the throat, hoisted her up against the wall, and slowly lifted her off the ground.

Li Fengmei saw the thief’s feet leaving the ground and, fearing that Lu Zhanguo might accidentally strangle the thief to death in his lack of composure, urgently called out, "Captain, you mustn’t act impulsively, let go quickly."

Lu Zhanguo seemed to have lost his senses at that moment, not hearing a word of what Li Fengmei was saying, and his grip tightened even more.

"Husband, it hurts..." Gu Xiaobei woke up to see Lu Zhanguo intending to kill the thief, and immediately cried out in fright.

The thief on the ground struggled to sit up, leaning against the wall, coughing after removing her mask. Gu Xiaobei turned her head and recognized her, exclaiming, "It’s you." It was Sun Erhui, the woman they had met on the train, whose half of her face was now swollen.

Sun Erhui, feeling a lingering fear of the near-death experience, wiped her tears.

Seeing Sun Erhui able to sit up again, Li Fengmei angrily asked, "You are also a woman, how can you harbor such malicious intentions?"

Gu Xiaobei, seeing Sun Erhui, immediately understood that Qin Ximei had targeted the child in her belly.

Lu Zhanguo apparently also reached this conclusion, he coldly asked, "Where is Qin Ximei?"

Frightened, Sun Erhui told the truth through her sobs, "My elder sister said, you have a son, and wanted us to take him and raise him."

"When did you arrive?" Lu Zhanguo’s anger once again surged.

"We arrived after the New Year, we’ve been renting a house in town. My elder sister said to wait for the right opportunity to steal your child. Last time she went to the city, she happened to meet you and learned it was a boy, and then my sister asked you about the time of the birth, but you didn’t tell her," Sun Erhui timidly said.

Lu Zhanguo’s face turned ashen, "How did you know about Xiaobei’s delivery time?"

Shaking her head, Sun Erhui replied, "Last night, my elder sister told me that Xiaobei was in the hospital and about to give birth. I stayed at the hospital ever since. How she knew, I’m not sure."

Gu Xiaobei, at this point, wished she could tear Qin Ximei to pieces. If she hadn’t put up a fight, her child would have been taken away by Sun Erhui. How was she supposed to find him then? The hospital didn’t even have any surveillance cameras.

Lu Zhanguo was about to get up when Gu Xiaobei held him back and said, "You haven’t seen the child yet, have you? Look quickly. When it gets light, let the local police station handle it." Afraid that Lu Zhanguo would lose control again, she quickly changed the subject.

Indeed, Lu Zhanguo was entertaining murderous thoughts once more. He wanted to strangle Qin Ximei to death for causing them so much trouble over the course of a long period. It was only after Gu Xiaobei’s suggestion that he came back to his senses. From the moment he entered the room, he hadn’t caught a glimpse of his child. Lu Zhanguo looked at the two sleeping faces, so tiny that he didn’t dare approach them, simply staring at them from where he stood. His heart, however, was melting away.

Gu Xiaobei, watching the dazed Lu Zhanguo, closed her eyes in peace and fell asleep. Despite the pain in her belly, she was really too tired.

Sun Erhui slumped to the ground, not daring to move, because every glance Lu Zhanguo cast her way felt as if he wanted to rip her apart.

The twins were good, sleeping until dawn. The little girl woke up first. Li Fengmei found that she didn’t need to be changed, and guessed that she must be hungry. But Gu Xiaobei’s milk hadn’t come in yet, so she could only feed her water with a small spoon, planning to buy a bag of baby formula to feed her later.

Li Fengmei was feeding the little girl water, while the little brother was lying to one side, eyes open, neither crying nor making a fuss.

Li Fengmei, while feeding the water, said to Lu Zhanguo, "Your son is easier to care for than your daughter. This little girl likes to cry, and she’s quite loud."

Looking at the two magical little lives, and then at Gu Xiaobei still in a deep sleep, Lu Zhanguo finally felt a bit better. He looked again at Sun Erhui sitting against the wall, narrowing his eyes. He instructed Li Fengmei not to leave the room while he was away, then took Sun Erhui to the police station.

Lu Zhanguo dragged Sun Erhui to their rented room and, finding Qin Ximei there, beat her without a word, specifically targeting places where injuries wouldn’t be visible.

After beating Qin Ximei until she was at death’s door, and seeing no visible injuries on her body, he stopped. He then took them to the local police station.

Lu Zhanguo knew that if Qin Ximei insisted that she had no involvement in the incident, the police might not be able to do anything about it. After all, Sun Erhui had only attempted to steal the child and it was never carried out.

When Lu Zhanguo returned, Gu Xiaobei was no longer sleeping and was lying in bed watching Li Fengmei entertain the two children.

"Where have you been? You were gone for so long," Gu Xiaobei asked when she heard Lu Zhanguo coming.

"I took Sun Erhui and the others to the police station. The police will send someone to take a statement later," Lu Zhanguo replied, leaning over to caress Gu Xiaobei’s still pale face.

Nodding, Gu Xiaobei said, "This time, we mustn’t go easy on them. If I happened to pass out and never wake up..." Unable to finish the sentence, Gu Xiaobei’s eyes welled up with tears.

Seeing Gu Xiaobei’s emotional state, Li Fengmei quickly brought over the little girl and said with a laugh, "Quick, think of names for the babies! I can’t just keep calling them ’little girl’ and ’little boy’ all the time." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Seeing the soft little bun in Li Fengmei’s arms, Gu Xiaobei’s mood instantly improved, "We had already decided, the boy will be named Mo Wang, and the girl will be Xiaopang. She really is a chubby one, even heavier than her brother."
