Alpha Marked By A Ruthless Enigma (BL)
Chapter 26 - 25: The lie that failed
Julius didn’t hesitate. He started the car and drove straight to the hospital. He drove fast through the busy streets
His mind kept going back to the phone call, to Helen’s name, to the fact that she had listed him as her emergency contact even after everything that happened.
When he got there, he parked his car in the hospital garage. He sat there for a moment, his hand resting on the steering wheel.
He was contemplating whether he should tell Harrison that he would be late. His phone was right there in his hand. One message that was all it would take.
He started typing, he began writing the the message. But then something flashed in his mind, and he stopped.
He said this to himself, are you out of your mind, Julius? Why are you trying to give him an excuse? Why does it matter if Harrison knows or not?
He locked his phone screen and shoved it back into his pocket. He opened the car door, stepped out, and went straight to where Helen was being kept.
When he entered the VIP hospital room, he saw her lying on the bed. She didn’t look injured. No bandages. No bruises. Nothing that suggested a serious accident.
"You’re here," she said, her voice soft.
Instantly, Julius felt something was off. The way she said those words, like she had been expecting him. Like she was 100 percent sure he would come running the moment she called.
He asked her directly, "What happened? How did you get into an accident? Where are you injured?"
Helen didn’t answer Julius immediately. She took her time, making sure her response wouldn’t make him feel suspicious about anything.
Then she said carefully, "I was driving from the house to the company, and the car lost control. But I’m okay now. Just a few bruises."
Now Julius knew exactly what game she was trying to play. He could see right through her.
He replied coldly, "Seeing you here doesn’t feel like someone who got into a serious accident. The call I received and what I’m seeing right now don’t match at all."
Julius sat down on the chair beside the bed and crossed his legs. He showed no emotion as he looked at her.
"Helen, do you take me for a fool?" he asked. "I’m here because at least this is the last respect I should give you as a long-time friend. Nothing more."
He stood up and straightened his suit. "Let today be the first and last time you do this. If you have any problems from now on, call your parents. Don’t call me."
He was about to leave when Helen spoke again.
"Is it because of him?" she asked, her voice rising. "Julius, are you seriously falling for a man? You’re an Alpha. People respect you. What will happen if this goes public?"
Julius turned to face her. His expression was ice cold. "Are you done?"
She was shocked by how unbothered he looked. She had expected anger, denial, something. Not this calm indifference.
She replied quickly, trying to regain control, "Julius, if you leave here now, don’t blame me for what you’ll see on the internet tomorrow."
Julius gave her a smirk, the kind that held no warmth at all. Then he turned his back on her completely.
"If you don’t want your father’s company to disappear overnight, go ahead and run your mouth," he said. "See what happens."
He left the room without even bothering to close the door behind him.
Helen sat there in silence for a moment. Then she pulled out her phone from under the pillow and dialed a number.
The call connected. [ "Plan A didn’t work," ] she said quietly.
Julius was already late. Way too late. Harrison could wait forever for his Alpha, he told himself.
But the moment Harrison’s personal assistant came to him and said, "Sir, Mr. Julius went to see Helen—"
Before he could even finish the sentence, Harrison stood up without a word.
His assistant understood immediately just by seeing the anger on Harrison’s face. No words were needed.
"Sir, I’ll bring the car around," the assistant said quickly.
A few minutes later, he brought the car from the parking area. Harrison didn’t even wait for him to open the door properly. He opened it himself, got in, and sat back against the seat.
His heart was full of anger. All of it directed at Julius. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
He asked himself silently, am I too gentle with him? Should I just lock him up somewhere and be done with it?
I’ve given him enough time to realize things for himself. It seems he still needs my help to understand who he belongs to.
I’ve been keeping that damn family alive because of you, Julius. Maybe that was my mistake.
His assistant could feel the atmosphere turn dangerous. He knew exactly what needed to be done.
"Sir..." he started carefully.
Harrison’s voice came out cold and final. "Do it."
Julius arrived at the hotel address Harrison had sent him. But when he walked up to the front desk, the staff told him that Harrison had already left a while ago.
That was the moment Julius knew he had messed up badly. He should have told Harrison what was going on. He should have sent that message.
Now Harrison had misunderstood everything. And Harrison angry was something Julius didn’t want to deal with.
He went back to his car and drove home in complete silence. His mind was racing with questions he didn’t want to answer.
What punishment are you going to give me this time, Harrison?
Of course he knew Harrison well enough by now. He knew something big was coming. Something he wouldn’t see until it was already too late.
At that moment, Julius’s phone rang. He picked it up without checking who it was.
Sarah’s voice came through, panicked and rushed. ["Sir, we have a big problem."]
Julius closed his eyes. So this is it, he thought.
