Chapter 224: No nobles here

Yosan received the message, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.

He lifted a brow at Sen. "Everything is going smoothly on Zena’s side. Those males have strong willpower, so she needs a bit more time. But soon enough, we’ll have a batch of powerful males under our control."

It made sense. The stronger the males, the stronger their resistance. Taking them down in one go had never been realistic.

Sen curled his lips into a faint smile. "As expected. There isn’t a male Zena can’t handle."

His gaze shifted toward the western side of the city lord’s residence. "But Drago has come looking for us. He wants his spirit stones back. How should we respond?"

"Tell him we’re not done using them yet. Stall him," Yosan said.

He had taken the spirit stones earlier to strengthen his clone, anticipating a confrontation with Nina’s males. The activation of the sealing array had also relied on their power.

But he had not expected Nina to have bonded with the spirit pearl, her strength surpassing even his clone. She had destroyed it, taken his spatial stone, and the spirit stones were inside it.

He needed to retrieve both the spatial stone and the spirit stones as soon as possible. They were essential for the upcoming sacrifice.

"I’m afraid stalling won’t work. His attitude is very firm," Sen replied, frowning.

"Then find a way. We cannot return the spirit stones," Yosan said, his gaze darkening. "If possible, trick him into handing over more."

Who knew how many he had brought? 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Sen frowned deeper. "We can’t even return the one we already have. Getting more from him will be even harder. And that teng snake escaped. Are you confident you can capture it again? It’s an important sacrifice."

"With those males under control later, it won’t be a problem. The city is sealed. It can’t escape. Besides, the Master is here. What are you worried about?"

Yosan’s irritation grew. Nina truly was his nemesis. Taking the little teng snake was one thing, but she had even rescued the larger one. Now he didn’t even know how to explain this to his Master.

What he couldn’t figure out most was how Nina had managed to break his chains.

"Of course I’m worried about the Master’s wrath. I’ll handle Drago. As for the teng snake, you can explain it yourself."

Sen suddenly remembered something. "What about the female the mutated beasts captured? She’s been in the city lord’s residence for days, and you haven’t dealt with her."

"That female has a special constitution. She still has use. Keep her for a few more days," Yosan said.

"She’s been causing a scene every day. It’s getting annoying. Should I throw her into the dungeon or what?"

Sen looked irritated. Yosan had only told him to keep her, nothing more. He didn’t even know how he was supposed to handle her. And every time he tried to ask, Yosan avoided him until now.

A couple of days ago, he had finally lost patience and beaten her.

This wasn’t some orderly city. In the Wildlands, females didn’t get to act however they pleased.

"It’s fine. If she wants to go out, let her. Just assign some guards to watch her," Yosan said.

She was just a fragile female. What trouble could she cause? If she cooperated willingly, all the better.

"Alright."

Sen turned and left to deal with Drago.

Meanwhile, Yosan remained behind, still thinking about how to explain Nina and Idir’s escape to his Master.

Sen soon arrived at Drago’s residence.

"City Lord Song," he said with a polite smile, "I’ve spoken with our High Shaman. He says the spirit stones are still needed for a while longer. They’ll be returned to you in a few days. How about this,I’ll compensate you with additional beast crystals. Just give us a little more time."

"I don’t want beast crystals." Drago’s eyes burned with anger. "Return the spirit stones immediately."

Drago had already waited long enough. The longer they delayed, the clearer it became that they had no intention of returning the spirit stones.

"We truly still need them," Sen said with a sigh. "Just lend them to us for a few more days. We’ll return them very soon."

He leaned in slightly, negotiating. "I can also offer you some energy crystals. And in the future, Barbarian City will unconditionally do one thing for you. Think of it as making a friend. If you ever need help, we will stand by you."

Drago hesitated, tempted.

Though the Wildlands were barren, it was still a considerable force. Having their support might not be a bad arrangement.

"How much longer do you need?" Drago asked.

Seeing his softened stance, Sen felt a flicker of satisfaction. "Not long. About one or two months."

He added cautiously, "If you want it sooner, you could lend us a few more spirit stones. That way, we can return everything even faster."

Drago’s expression sharpened at once. "No. At most one month. If you still don’t return them by then, don’t blame me for what happens next."

Sen gave an awkward smile. "We’ll do our best."

As expected, the other spirit stones were not so easy to swindle.

Drago gave a curt nod, his face dark, and said nothing more.

At that moment, a male stepped forward to report, "City Lord, that female is making a scene again. She insists on seeing you."

"Got it," Sen replied irritably.

Even after being beaten, she still hadn’t learned her lesson. If Yosan hadn’t said she was still useful, he would have silenced her for good.

With that, Sen took his leave of Drago and went to see Lina.

He arrived at her room shortly after. His expression was impatient.

"What is it this time?"

"I am a noble female!" Lina snapped, furious. "How dare you beat and mistreat me, and even lock me up like this?"

Sen let out a mocking laugh. "This is the Barbarian City, not your pampered cities. There are no ’noble females’ here."

Most females sent here were discarded. Noble? No one would care even if they died.

"You—"

His indifference sent a flicker of fear through Lina.

She had heard that the Barbarian City was savage, but she had never imagined they would treat females like this. This male had even struck her. In her entire life, she had never been hit before.

Captured by mutated beasts, flown endlessly without rest, injured before she could even recover, and then beaten again...

A wave of bitterness surged in her chest.

She had come here to watch Nina’s downfall. Instead, she had suffered first.

Her tone softened considerably. "This may be the Wildlands, but I am not in exile. I am a noble of Spirit Stone City. The city lord there is my mother’s mate. Release me at once."

Sen studied her, realization dawning.

So she was connected to Drago. No wonder Yosan had said she was useful.

A faint smile curved his lips. "From tomorrow onward, you may move freely within the city. I’ll assign guards to protect you."

Lina felt a surge of smug satisfaction. "Good. At least you know your place."

She had known it. Once they realized her identity, they would not dare treat her this way again. It was a pity she hadn’t had the chance to say it earlier before being beaten.

Tomorrow, she would go find Nina...and settle things properly.

Sen cast her a disdainful glance before turning and walking out.
