Academic gathering with a lich
Chapter 406 - 376: A Joyful Encounter
Andrey’s eagerly anticipated City of Wandering clan supremacy competition had finally arrived. After three days of continuous reorganization, the teleportation circle on the green fields of Andrey opened once again. Andrey’s people, already prepared, assembled their teams, donned their disguises, stood tall and proud, each sporting an expectant smile on their skin.
Except for Mister Faceless, as Andrey’s Teleportation Gate Mage, his workload had increased several times over.
"If the City of Wandering runs off into the void, I’ll just kill you bunch of bastards." After casting the Liches’ traditional skill, Curse, Faceless flipped through the pages of his book, and the purple teleportation gate that led to the City of Wandering opened again.
The Dean stood at the forefront, lifting his staff, and with high spirits, he pointed towards the gate where the scenery was becoming gradually clearer.
"Andrey! Let them see who truly speaks for death! Who is... the ultimate evil!"
"Roar!!!!" In that moment, the Liches forsook their usual composure, their eyes blood-red, ferocious as beasts, issuing a ghastly roar.
"Roar roar roar!!" Nia, in the midst of the team, waved her tentacles, though the girl’s melodious voice sounded quite adorable.
Lyle bowed his head, remaining calm amidst the frenzied crowd, when his right hand, hanging by his side, was suddenly grasped by someone.
He turned his head and saw Alianna looking at him with a smiling face. She didn’t scream, otherwise, a deathly shriek might have caused some trouble. Nonetheless, Lady Alianna had found a way to express her own enthusiasm; she shifted her weight and pressed her lips close to Lyle’s ear, whispering softly.
"Meow~"
The tingling sensation invigorated Lyle quite a bit, and his roar blended into the raging tide of the Liches as he faced Alianna’s satisfied smile.
"Woof!" Like a goofy dog amidst a pack of wolves.
The wave of Liches surged into Dark Zone Seven, where the cold spires still filled the sky of the City of Wandering, yet something was different. Hanging from those spire tips, which appeared to pierce the sky, were many bright, colorful ribbons. The ribbons, woven across the high-rises of Dark Zone Seven, created an expansive colored net, with gleaming crystals suspended amongst the satin, reflecting light. These were shards from Dark Zone 10, decorated by the Arcanists to adorn the city. Perhaps the City of Wandering realized that today was a grand occasion. At this moment, outside the city, the sunshine was bright, and the light passed through those lovely crystals, casting brilliant spots of light on the Liches’ faces.
It was a beautiful festival. Under the rainbow-like sunshine, the people of Andrey each showed a smile.
Aside from the pretty decorations, the biggest difference during the festivities was the presence of strangers along the Blackstone Streets of Dark Zone Seven. Humans, dwarves, Elves, the Demon Race, witches... incomprehensibly diverse touring groups were harmoniously exploring the Liches’ district. A spontaneously warm feeling enveloped this dreary and cold area, and several members of the literary society promptly approached, swiftly becoming part of that group.
No malice, no division - during the celebration, the City of Wandering permitted only relaxation and joy, along with tolerance and reconciliation between clans.
Here, at this moment, was no less majestic than any sacred places.
Lyle watched all this dumbfounded, as though he were a statue, with the crowd parting beside him, blending into the larger body of people. Shadows flickered, and in the bustling crowd, Lyle seemed to lose himself.
A sense of comfort emerged in his heart; Alianna stood by his side, quietly accompanying Lyle as they watched everything unfold.
That unease, unworldly in nature, had already vanished into thin air. Lyle pulled back the tentacle Nia had extended, and with his other hand, he took hold of his partner’s palm.
"It seems you need a companion, my lady."
Alianna slid her arm, interlocking her fingers with Lyle’s, their arms and shoulders pressing together.
"I need a guide, dear Plague Doctor Sir."
"It would be my honor, Alianna, I am quite familiar with the City of Wandering, I can take you to any place you wish to go."
"I want to go to your heart." Those beautiful eyes flickered, her long eyelashes almost ensnaring Lyle’s soul.
Lyle was just about to respond.
"No way! Nia is already in Lyle’s heart, there’s no room for Alianna to enter anymore." Nia popped out of Lyle’s shadow, flailing her arms frantically like a tenant afraid of being evicted.
The adorable response made both of them laugh heartily.
Lyle patted Nia’s body, "Don’t worry, Nia. Then I’ll just have to take Alianna somewhere else."
"How about Bloody Rose? We could go see Beatrice. There’s still some time before the literature club’s Music of Life begins, we could visit some relatives."
Alianna’s eyes had already turned into crescents, "Of course, that’s no problem. We can have a drink there, there’s no cocktail maker at home, I’ve been wanting to try that."
Lyle and Alianna headed for the teleportation gate to the Light and Shadow Zone.
The entire City of Wandering had already entered a frenzy, Dark Zone 10 was becoming a dating paradise for couples, with its crystal clear corridors and dreamy paths folding together the silhouettes of those walking side by side. Even the aloof Lich lady Alianna couldn’t help but tighten her grip on Lyle’s shoulder as they walked through the beautiful gallery. What was a twenty-minute journey, they stretched into an hour-long walk.
The black market in the Light and Shadow Zone also turned into a selling ground for all sorts of toys and candies, although their prices still retained the flavor of the black market—cheap toys and expired candies flooded the market. Occasionally, one could hear the curses of disgruntled customers, but those unscrupulous merchants were not afraid. It was celebration time; the Arcanists wouldn’t tolerate private fights.
Unless it was the Arcanists themselves, or their family members, who were swindled.
"You damn crooked merchant!!!" Black Iron Wings unfolded in the air as a figure grabbed the black-robed merchant aloft, the amber curls of hair barely concealing the seductiveness of the body covered in spiked armor, the shrill voice roaring, "A fake piece of peridot, you actually dare sell it for twenty-five Olious!!!"
People around, adhering to the principle of not inviting trouble, scattered to the sides, leaving an empty space where a human and an elf in robes were anxiously watching the scene above.
"Come down, Gulelia, it’s just twenty-five Olious after all," William said awkwardly, watching his rampaging Demon Race girlfriend. Since they had expressed their feelings to each other, Gulelia’s true nature had been gradually revealed.
"Sister Anna, please come down. That peridot actually looks quite pretty, I really like it. It’s okay if it’s a bit expensive," Fannila said, clenching her fists, her eyes darting around fearfully lest one of William’s Arcanist colleagues might appear suddenly.
And so, their gazes intertwined.
"Mr. Lyle?"
"Lyle?"
"William?" "Fannila?"
The black-robed merchant was now sitting on the ground, trembling, while the terrifying Mother Yasha was now behaving coyly like a bashful young girl. The embarrassed Succubus maiden stared intently at the lady by Lyle’s side.
"Ah... Lady Alianna."
The disturbance dissipated, and the three ladies came together, while the two men stepped aside.
They were pleased with the unexpected encounter.
William patted Lyle on the shoulder.
"Life winner, Lyle, you’ve found such a beautiful companion. Well done."
Lyle chuckled.
"Succubus and Elves, William, you’re really living it up, aren’t you?"
The two brothers sneered at each other, branding one another with the label "rascal."
