Chapter 299: Chapter 275 William’s Gift

City of Wandering.

Dark Third District.

Succubus Anna flicked the tag in her hand, having just completed this month’s tag registration.

This small piece of metal, known as an identity badge, was issued by the managers of the City of Wandering, the Secret Pivot Council, as a symbol of legitimate citizenship in the City of Wandering.

The little magic iron piece would record the holder’s identity information as well as his criminal record, to discern whether he is an upstanding citizen.

This system was successfully implemented on the Order Side, but on the Chaotic Side, over a thousand residents were blacklisted in the first month alone. Those who freely indulge in chaos might not commit serious violations, but petty faults were incessant.

After much headache for law enforcers, those clever mages came up with a new idea.

Laundering.

Residents of the Chaotic Side could spend a corresponding amount of money to cancel their criminal activities. This practice, in keeping with local customs, was welcomed by most. Demons could continue to pose as good people in public, and the managers gained an additional source of income.

The place for laundering on the Chaotic Side was located in a small partition less than twenty square meters in size, at the corner of the second floor of the Evil Spirit Coal Mining Company in the City of Sins, Dark Third District.

The fact that this cramped space was the only place for the entire Chaotic Side to launder their records shows just how little those individuals cared about maintaining their status as upstanding citizens.

For example, Black Abyssal Demons would flash their tags before a fight, listening to the record of brawls and destruction played back from the badge as if showing off a warrior’s scars.

This was the first fight between two demons, but of course, this did not mean they would stop fighting; it simply made victory all the more exhilarating afterward.

Anna was a regular in the laundering area, and this month, she had one hundred twenty-three counts of fraud on her record. Thankfully, seductive behavior was recognized as an innate trait of the succubus race; otherwise, she would have to pay even more.

Every month, the laundering process cost her a sizeable portion of her earnings, but it was necessary.

Because an outstanding citizen of the City of Wandering, regardless of race, would receive protection from the Secret Pivot Council, safeguarding commoners from oppression by other factions. The laws of the City of Wandering would protect this succubus sibling pair.

In the past, this task was always done by Candy.

Anna walked boredly along the main street of the City of Sins, the intrusive gazes around her scanning her body like annoying flies.

"Recently, there hasn’t been any useful information from the Demon Race; they’re all discussing that big toy."

Spine Wheel, a term that had cropped up most frequently among the demons lately, always associated with casualties in its phrasing—broken arms, broken legs, just like the outcomes of brawls among the demons, but with twice the frequency of occurrence.

"What sort of deranged person would invent such a murderous toy?"

She stretched lazily, displaying her voluptuous curves on the street as the sounds of heavy breathing around her resembled a pack of wolves.

"No one’s biting."

Anna had no interest in her demon kin; they were either cunning old mongrels or muscle-brained dogs incapable of proper communication.

"Other races are a bit more interesting."

Anna recalled a record from her recent laundering: the intimidation, bullying of young demons.

Her pearly teeth gently bit down, making a grating sound.

"Damn janitor."

Bloody Rose Bar, second floor.

Beatrice, reeking of alcohol, had a gem on her chest that shone with a moonlike white radiance, which made the beautiful lady before her appear all the more distinguished.

Beatrice blinked her soft eyelashes, looking at the silhouette that had appeared on her windowsill.

"What are you doing here?"

The dark tentacles gripped the windowsill as Lyle dropped down from it.

"I’m here to see my demonic clients and thought I’d stop by your bar to see how William’s been."

Beatrice looked at Lyle, surprise filling most of her gaze.

"You’re making deals with the Demon Race?"

"Yes, Spine Wheel. I’m now expanding my business to multiple races."

"You mean that wheel you left on my lawn to tease the dogs?"

```
"Hmm, a wheel that can become a Chai Chai toy isn’t just any ordinary wheel."
Beatrice saw the black tentacles surging towards her and tossed a bottle of whiskey into them.
"Hey, Nia isn’t allowed to drink alcohol!" Lyle dove into the mass of tentacles. Lyle was knocked to the ground by the tentacles, and the triumphant victor made a gurgling sound.
"Nia can drink!" Nia, holding the empty bottle, waved it in front of Lyle.
Beatrice looked down at Lyle, who was sprawled unflatteringly on her floor, "What exactly are you fretting over? Nia can’t get drunk." After her simple complaint, Beatrice pointed out what she really cared about.
"Why didn’t you use the front door instead of climbing through the window?"
Lyle stared at the large eye in the middle of Nia’s chest, checking for any adverse reactions.
"I took Alianna’s advice and stayed out of the Bloody Rose Bar."
Beatrice propped her head on her right hand, elbow resting on the tabletop.
"So, you climbed through the window to come see the bar’s proprietress directly?"
"You’re Beatrice, Alianna’s sister; she won’t mind."
Beatrice’s blood-red eyes narrowed slightly, then cleared again.
"No need to remind me, you bastard who stole my sister." Beatrice buried her soft body in the couch, waving her arms around listlessly.
"I remember, William was working here as a cleaner..."
"I have no idea what got into him, but thanks to him, the reputation of the Bloody Rose shot up quite a bit. A third-order mage working as a cleaner..."
"William’s third order?" Lyle guessed William might be up to no good coming here, but can you get promoted from sweeping if you have ulterior motives!
Beatrice, too lazy to even open her eyes, lounged in her couch.
"Yes, one night something happened in the bar, and he revealed his strength, taking over the security guard’s job entirely. A drunk customer was harassing my girls, and your friend showed his gentlemanly manners."
This is the classic hero saves the beauty scenario. But, for these ladies used to seeing the faces of men, I wonder if it’s effective?
Lyle looked down at the bar wanting to find William’s familiar figure amongst the chaotic crowd.
"He’s out, with Candy."
Beatrice’s voice came from behind Lyle, who widened his eyes, looking at a smirking Beatrice.
"With who?"
"Candy."
William, have you still not given up on your Demon Race slave contract?
On the streets of City of Wandering, two figures were moving, one tall and slim, wearing a neat waiter’s uniform.
The smaller one, with chestnut-colored hair braided with hair bands at the temples, rosy cheeks like apples, and long lashes like water curtains hiding the charm in those eyes.
The clean plain skirt, adorned with some patches and not covering the knees, showed off the slender legs clad in white stockings, looking like segments of lotus roots. Without unnecessary adornment, a face mixed with shy and happy smiles was enough to melt the heart of any old father.
This made the person beside them even more uneasy.
"Candy, I remember you promised me to go out in normal attire," William felt the hostile glares scraping over his body like sharpening knives.
Damn, this is a boy! I feel so wronged.
Candy raised her head, looking up at William with reproach in her beautiful eyes.
"Mr. William, this is my normal attire, styled by my sister."
"Damn conscienceless succubus."
Candy patted William’s arm, with a serious face that made her look like a cute little adult.
"Mr. William, it was you who asked for this, requesting that I help you select a gift girls would like. I thought you were mentally prepared to go out with me."
William imagined her smile in his mind and gritted his teeth.
"I’m counting on you, Candy."
