A Serpent's Tale
Chapter 405: Reporting
"Just... Just ignore it, it’s not an issue. Forget about it." Krytaraa Dismissed the Custodian with little regard for the Custodian, seemingly unable to be bothered to deal with it.
The Custodian seemed to want to say something but ultimately chose to just stay quiet and leave.
Once the door was closed, Krytaraa then turned to me and asked, "Why have you summoned a Succubus?"
I took a deep breath, and then explained everything they might ask about because I knew they would, "First off, you’ve clearly forgotten who exactly I am. Yes, I’m the Goddesses descendant, but I’m also the child of Asmodeus. As for why I summoned her, I did so for a couple of reasons. The first being she’s my friend and I want to spend time with her. Secondly, she’s basically a messenger between me and my father, helping deliver letters between us. And finally, I was a bit pent up and wanted to unwind."
"Oh. I see..." Krytaraa gave a somewhat curt response, after which silence fell upon us once more.
The awkwardness grew till one of the Emberin’s couldn’t handle it anymore and finally said something.
"So, about you getting a property, shall we get that sorted now then? Or do you have something else that needs to be addressed?"
Tryzara was the one who made her voice known. And I’m guessing she’s the one who would officially hand over the deed to the manor I’m getting. Make sense given her position as the Emberin of Wealth and Resources.
I looked up slightly as I thought about her inquiry. ’I’ve reinformed them of the targets, about the meeting and what led up to it. Is there anything else to note? Oh right.’
"There are a couple of things actually. So, Sindria, Zatyraa and Zakyrta was it? You three can get back to whatever it was you were doing as this won’t concern any of you."
The three of them nodded and left without much fuss, leaving me with the Futaris, the Empyric Coil, and two of the Emberin Ladies.
"So, what did you want to talk about that concerns us? I assume there’s some kind of problem for you to want me to stay. Something, or someone you want dealt with?" Katzyrr commented with a sharp glint in her eye.
"Err, sort of. It pertains to the Duchess of Krara city, and also why I came here when I did."
"Right, you did say that this happened no less than roughly three to four days ago. Why did you wait till now to come here?" Trayzara recognised the oddity in my actions, which is fair.
So, I explained myself, "I wanted to look for my other friends, his name is David, and he was a Serpentar. But, before we could properly look for him, we were pestered by both the city guard and the Duchess’ personal guard, with the latter threatening execution for-"
"WHAT?!"
Before I could finish my sentence, Katzyrr suddenly roared out in an extreme anger. Visible to. I could see her eyes bulging out slightly as she gnashed her teeth together.
I mean I get her anger to some degree. But I feel like this is a tad much. Though, I guess when I’m in the picture, everything to them is to be taken much more seriously given what I mean to them just by existing.
"Yeah, so that’s something I’d like dealt with. I want her stripped of her role, her possessions and power. Basically, just denounce her like you did with the oligarchs."
"Right, I’ll get on that immediately." She then started to slither quickly towards the door, but before she could open it, I stopped her.
"Wait, I was thinking it would be best if we took her down at the same time as the Cult. Just in case she’s somehow involved with them."
Katzyrr thought it over for a short while before nodding her head and returning to our little circle that we’d made.
"Anything else then?" She asked.
"Yes, and this next one is going to be a bit more shocking." I paused momentarily, making everyone catch their breaths as they awaited my next words.
And they did indeed send everyone into shock.
"I want to reform the Sect from the ground up."
Immediately, the Emberin’s and the Empyric Coil were in an uproar, questioning why I would want to do this and what brought about this decision. And I did explain after forcing them to calm down.
Taking a deep breath, I began explaining, "The reason I want to reform the Sect, is because I believe that it no longer represents what it means to follow the Goddess. I mean, I was in that Sermon you did yesterday. Just how much of it is actually necessary? How much of it is redundant nonsense? How much of it is just flat out lies created by some other organisation orchestrating our downfall?"
"Not to mention, you’re supposed to be helping our kind, and yet, there are so many orphans out there, orphans who need you to help them, to guide them to being better people. I’m technically an orphan also. How does that reflect on your values and your priorities?"
The three of them lowered their heads in shame upon me finishing my tirade degrading them and their misguided ways.
Sighing, I further clarified, "Look, I’m not asking you to disband the Sect or anything, just restructure it. With what was being said in that sermon, I could tell that it wasn’t actually helping anyone. It was just giving them a false sense of security. And I want to correct that, make it so that people are actually worshipping the Goddess and what she represents."
"I... I understand..." Krytaraa sighed dejectedly. "We’ve lost our way. However, this will take some time, we can’t just do it immediately. We need to redesign it before enacting the changes."
"Right, right. I’m not asking you to do it now, I’m just saying that it needs to be done."
"But, why did the others have to go if that was something you wanted to tell us?" Krytaraa asked with a puzzled expression.
"Uhh... I... Don’t know. I just kind of said they could leave since the other things didn’t really require them to be here. So, I told them to go. I didn’t really think this through all that well." I muttered a little flustered.
"Well, it’s not too big a deal, we can inform them later about this decision. For now though, there was something else you wanted to discuss, yes?" Trayzara said in a calming tone, deescalating the tension that was starting to build up between us.
I lifted my head and turned to Tryzara, "Yeah, there’s one more thing, not all that significant compared to the other two though, I just wanted to get my new house out of the way as soon as possible."
"Ah, that’s why you wanted me to stay. Well, if you have nothing else to discuss, we should get going, as there are a lot of estates to get through." Tryzara nodded.
"I can’t think of anything at the moment, but if I do, I’ll just let any one of you know and you can inform the others. I only wanted to call this meeting as it was important that I made sure that everything was still going as I remembered it."
Tryzara continued to nod as she started to head out. "Well, in that case, let’s get going. I have them all documented in my office so we can do it there."
"Mnm."
With that, the meeting ended and all of us filed out of the room, with the others headed back to do their respective tasks while Tryzara led me to her office to start looking for a place to live.
Once we got there, she started asking some basic questions as I sat down on one of the chaises in front of her desk.
"So, to start with, is there any location that you’d like your new home to be? We’ve got several places here in the capital as well as many others in other prominent cities across the kingdom. Where would you prefer to be?"
"Umm... I don’t really know that much about the rest of the kingdom to be honest, so I’ll just take somewhere here in the capital."
"Right, and which circle would you like to be in, we have three in the inner circle, around fifteen in the middle circle and several dozens in the outer circle. The circles are just proximity to the Royal Palace by the way."
"Gotcha. In that case, I think I’d like one of the one’s from the middle circle, though preferably one closer to the inner circle than the outer one."
"Understood, just give me a second to sort through these then."
I nodded and waited for her to sort through the files on her desk for a minute before she came and put them down on the table in front of me.
"These are nine properties that fulfil what you’ve asked, and which ones I believe you would like the most."
