Zombie Apocalypse: Creation
Chapter 819: Limit Up
"Would you look at that? 65% increase in a single day."
As Xiaoyun sat in front of the TV in the evening, the news anchor had just finished talking about the biggest financial news of the day.
Anna’s company had skyrocketed as the morning news dropped, dragging the entire military index up by itself.
When the news of the meeting between three Russians and Xiaoyun dropped right after lunch break, the index rose even higher.
If it weren’t for the limit up that prevented a more than 10% increase per hour, Xiaoyun was about to see the military index hit its goal in a single day.
"It still needs to go up by like 320%. Tomorrow is going to be when people realize both of these companies are way overvalued."
Yuqi’s sour comment didn’t affect Xiaoyun’s happy mood in the slightest, as he shrugged it off like it was nothing.
"Actually, it’s about 271.3% if you realize the calculation isn’t just to subtract the percentages from the total increases."
"Whatever."
As Yuqi rolled her eyes at his technicality, Leyan and Tianci, who sat alongside them, were both still blown away by the numbers.
"Xiaoyun, you sure this is legal?" Leyan nervously questioned.
"Why wouldn’t it? The whole thing is just government contracts. They repair the factory, and we get to order stuff from them."
"Yeah, but... Isn’t this valuation a little too crazy?"
"You’re worried that it might be a bubble, right?"
"Yeah, that too. Both of these companies just doubled in value in a day. They haven’t even repaired those factories yet, no?"
Xiaoyun shook his head, then looked over to Yuqi, who had chosen to continue to stare towards the TV in silence.
"The stock market doesn’t reflect their capability to make money currently. It is based on the potential to make money in the future." Xiaoyun answered.
"That sounds so irrational." Leyan quietly murmured.
"Not really irrational. It’s just how the stock market had always worked... Right, Yuqi?"
"He isn’t wrong... But Xiaoyun, aren’t you concerned that those investment funds might make too much money from this?"
"If someone is willing to buy it off them when it reaches that high, then it’s that person’s or that institution’s problem."
Xiaoyun paused for a second, then continued.
"Besides, are they really going to sell their golden egg? Cash out this early when they can continue holding it?"
"Well, they have to lend you the money. There’s no way they’re able to afford your cut of the money and hold onto whatever amount they have in military index."
"Oh, they absolutely have the money for that."
The answer surprised Yuqi a little as she finally turned around to look over to him. Staring him in the eye for an answer.
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean it word by word. Those investment funds absolutely can afford it. Hell, they probably have enough to fund the entire military for next year."
"That’s impossible. Their registered records show they only have one billion assets combined, and the majority of them are in the military index."
"How would you react when you learn the spare money they had put into an investment fund had doubled in value?"
Yuqi fell into silence as the only sound in the living room became the news anchor talking about tomorrow’s weather...
Until somebody sitting on the sofa got a little too curious.
"How are people supposed to react?" Tianci curiously asked.
"They pour more money into it. Everyone around them will learn about it and join in. Those investment funds will even have more liquidity than the government."
"Wait, why wouldn’t people just withdraw those profits?" Lily curiously asked from the floor while playing with the babies.
"Because they sign contracts that restrict them from withdrawing money, especially when those investment funds have just started up."
This time, Nami was the one who answered it. Her face was yawning as she barely looked awake on the other side of the sofa.
"Xiaoyun, you really are a genius." Nami complimented next, her face looked genuinely impressed by his tactics.
"Thank you... Looks like someone in the house appreciates my genius."
"Hmph!"
As Yuqi looked away in annoyance, the sound of the front door being knocked on suddenly echoed in the living room.
"I’ll go answer it."
Xiaoyun quickly got up from his seat, heading over to the front door before taking a look through the peephole.
"Welcome back—"
"Xiaoyun, you are a god damn genius! I love you so much! You’re the greatest husband of my entire life!"
Kate excitedly runs into his arms as he opens the door for her, with Anna standing behind looking a little shy.
"I love you too. Ahem, Anna, what are you standing at the door for? Come on in, it’s cold outside."
"Sorry."
As Anna kicked off her shoes and put on a pair of slippers, Kate had already run off into the living room to be with everyone else.
"You guys wouldn’t believe what happened today. And you wouldn’t believe how much our company has gone up..."
---
The weekend finally arrived as the 1st week of November came to a close.
Xiaoyun’s goal of increasing the military index by 500% was reached as the market closed for the weekend.
It had blown everyone’s expectations, even Xiaoyun himself didn’t expect it. The original deadline was supposed to be the end of next week.
Muxie had adjusted the stock exchange’s limit rule to be applied to 35% instead of 10%, which drastically changed the speed at which it was able to increase.
The investment funds delivered the three billion as promised, albeit with the slight caveat that Xiaoyun had to sign.
It was a legal document that required him to spend all of the money on military contracts, which he was going to do regardless of signing the papers.
With everything done, Xiaoyun could finally spend the weekend enjoying his time with his Tianci and his wives.
At least that was what he was originally hoping to do.
---
"Honey, wake up. It’s almost 11 o’clock already."
As Xiaoyun opened his eyes, Leyan’s body was blocking the window’s sunlight from hitting his face.
"Already? Why did I sleep so long today?"
Stretching out his back, he weirdly felt a little exhausted despite abstaining from sex since Tianci gave birth to Ziling.
"Yes, really. Ziling had been asking for Dada. Now get up and go wash your face. I had already cooked lunch for you."
Slowly, Xiaoyun got up from the bed as he headed over to the bathroom. Walking past, he looked over to the calendar on the wall.
"Eight more days before I need to go on the trip. And I have a date with Houqin a day before that."
After brushing his teeth and washing his face, Xiaoyun headed back to his bedroom as he quickly changed into a pair of casual clothes.
Heading downstairs, only Lily and Nami were in the living room. Their eyes were glued to the TV as they were watching some sort of action movie.
He slowly walked around them, going past the sofa as he headed into the kitchen, where Tianci and Leyan were sitting.
"Da-da!"
"Hey, Ziling. Have you been behaving well this morning?"
Ziling tilted her head slightly, seemingly confused. At the same time, she looked back at him with a smile as if she were happy to see him.
"Da-da?"
"Sounds like you behaved well. Let me give you a warm little hug."
"Stop being so clingy. It’s only going to make her miss you even more when you’re gone." Leyan grumpily pointed out.
"Is that jealousy I smell?"
"Hmph!"
"Leyan is right. Our daughter is really going to miss you." Tianci quietly murmured as she snags Ziling back into her arms.
"Even you changed, too, Tianci? Whatever, at least I still have a week left before I’m gone from this house."
As Xiaoyun took a seat, Leyan quickly got up to head over to the rice cooker to bring him a bowl of rice.
Looking at the table, there was a plate of fish, a plate of braised pork belly, and a plate of bok choy.
"So little dish today."
"Everyone had either already eaten or gone outside. I’m not trying to have leftovers at dinner later."
"I guess... Where is everybody anyway?"
"Shuli and Yuqi went shopping for clothes. Both Kate and Anna asked Yueyue to help them with something."
"Yueyue? What could she be helping them with?"
"I don’t know," Leyan answered.
"Probably something to do with finding people." Tianci chimed in as she finished the last few bits of rice in her bowl.
"Make sense."
Just as Xiaoyun fell into silence and started focusing on eating, a loud woosh suddenly came from the backyard.
"What the hell was that?"
"Probably just the wind. I’ll go check."
Leyan quickly got up again and headed over to the backyard, while Tianci got up to put her empty bowl into the sink.
"Hey Xiaoyun, can you play with Ziling for a bit? I need to work on some paper from the lab later."
"Sure."
