World-saving Plan: The Only Savior
Chapter 1685 - 8: The Insect Race’s Pursuit (Part 2)
"No, no... there are still many people who haven’t arrived... Nancy, let your men hold on for a little while longer! Just a little more time!"
The Governor ignored the grim-faced Holy Temple Knight beside him and kept craning his neck to look toward the crowd.
A moment later, when two figures, one big and one small, appeared in a sorry state within his line of sight, he finally let out a heavy sigh of relief; it was his partner and child.
The Governor waved his hand and said:
"Alright! Everyone, evacuate immediately! Activate the Transmission Crystal! We’re leaving here!"
However, just as he finished speaking, a yellow Light Ball flew from the distant sky and directly hit the Transmission Crystal protected by a group of guards behind them.
"Boom!"
The Transmission Crystal instantly exploded, shattering into pieces scattered all over the ground.
The hope of escape was dashed, and the crowd erupted into chaos.
"Ah! Insects! The insects are here!"
Screams suddenly echoed from not far away, followed by dozens of figures rushing into the makeshift low walls, slaughtering the people inside.
"Nancy! Nancy! Quickly! Have your men hold them off! Buy us time to get to the basement! Once we’re in the basement, we’ll be safe!"
The Governor shouted in panic.
Nancy furiously grabbed him by the collar and roared:
"Fool! It’s you! It’s because of your selfishness that we’re stuck here!"
As he spoke, he grabbed a Giant Sword and shoved it into the Governor’s hands.
"Don’t think about hiding anymore! Now, fight with us!"
The Governor’s expression changed, pointing at him and trembling as he said:
"How dare you talk to me like that! I’m your superior! I have the right to revoke your status as a Holy Temple Knight!"
"Fine! I don’t care about being a Holy Temple Knight! Now, I’m going to kill you to avenge my fallen friends!"
Nancy slashed his Holy Temple insignia with a Light Blade, then pressed it against the Governor’s neck.
"Nancy!"
"Captain!"
His companions around them all exclaimed, signaling him not to act impulsively.
Nancy didn’t actually stab, his arm trembled violently for a moment before he withdrew the Light Blade and pushed the Governor away.
By this time, even if he didn’t act, the Governor was already doomed.
Not just him, none of the people present could escape the hands of these Desert Worms.
From the moment they lost the Transmission Crystal, their fate was almost sealed. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Fortunately, Lady Luck was on their side this time.
Just as they were surrounded by the insect swarm, a large piece of Crystal fragment on the ground suddenly emitted a faint glow. The Crystal then floated up, beams of light illuminated around it, and within the pillars of light stood Yadun and the other Phantom Spirit People from the Hail.
"What’s happening!?"
Nancy and the others were all shocked.
As they recovered from their brief astonishment, Yadun and the others had already stepped out of the teleportation glow and stood by their side.
"Reinforcements! It’s reinforcements!!"
Someone couldn’t help but cry tears of joy in excitement.
The joy on Nancy’s face flashed by, but his eyes were still filled with worry,
It’s useless, even if new reinforcements have arrived, their numbers are just too few, appearing to be less than a hundred, nowhere near enough to handle the current situation. Their arrival might even provide more food for the Insect Race’s army.
Yadun’s mood, however, was completely opposite to his.
Coming here, he immediately encountered so many Desert Worms, each looking incredibly fierce and savage.
But Yadun wasn’t afraid of them now. After all the training inside the Hail, their power has increased tremendously compared to before.
Yadun ignored Nancy’s warning and instantly summoned his own Light Blade with a raise of his hand, charging toward the insect swarm.
Nancy took a deep breath, reluctant to see what would happen next.
The scene of expected blood splattering didn’t occur. The Holy Temple Knight wielding double blades, after just a few accelerations, reached the nearest Desert Worm with his Light Blades dancing in his hands.
With each strike of his Light Blades, he was able to take a Desert Worm’s life.
Nancy, being a Holy Temple Knight himself, knew well the capabilities of the Light Blade.
Although they excelled in armor-piercing, they indeed felt a bit awkward to use.
The length of the Light Blade determined its killing power; their blades couldn’t reach the lethal areas on the Insect Race’s bodies at all.
In their previous battles, Holy Temple Knights had to go all out to deal with those Desert Worms, even in one-on-one situations they might not win.
Yet, the combat power displayed by this tall fellow was completely different.
He moved like a phantom, his Light Blade flashing, slaughtering every insect in his path swiftly and cleanly.
Other warriors who were also teleported over with him did the same, all of them fought the Desert Worms like tigers among sheep.
Nancy noticed that these people’s Light Blades seemed capable of altering their length at will, even launching thrust-like attacks toward distant Desert Worms.
"Are they... Holy Temple Knights... how can they be so formidable...?"
Nancy was so shocked that he could hardly speak.
Clearly, everyone was a Holy Temple Knight, all using Spiritual Light Blades in combat, yet the disparity in strength was so vast.
Not to mention the enormous energy consumption of those Light Blades, just maintaining them in an active state drained energy quickly, let alone extending them greatly to attack targets.
And yet, Yadun managed to do all these.
"Boom, boom, boom!"
A sound of a building collapsing came, as a gigantic Black Beetle, towering like a skyscraper, charged over.
Yadun’s face lit up with excitement, considering this his first battle after receiving the Star Lord’s training, it was time to show off.
The Black Beetle was a suitable target; Yadun immediately charged toward it.
The Black Beetle stood about fifteen meters tall, resembling a building, intimidating enough to quash any thought of resistance just by sight.
But Yadun showed no fear, his form lightning-fast, maneuvering swiftly across the battlefield.
With each swift move, he added a few more wounds to the Black Beetle’s lower limbs, in mere moments leaving it battered and scarred.
"Die!"
Yadun leaped high into the air, the Light Blade in his hand suddenly extended several meters, plunging from above straight into the Black Beetle’s head.
"Hiss~"
The Black Beetle let out a series of piercing screeches before falling lifelessly amidst unwillingness and agony.
The others, too, brought out their specialty skills, fighting the insects with everything they had.
Eighty-seven surviving Phantom Spirit People had been transported over, none of them were elderly or women and children, everyone had learned methods to kill Desert Worms.
Now, even if they weren’t Holy Temple Knights with Extraordinary Power, ordinary people equipped with the right items had the ability to battle the insect swarms.
Zhang Xiaoman equipped them with armor and "hot weapons," enabling them to more effectively harm the enemy.
As for the hot weapons used by ordinary people, they weren’t firearms but energy launchers driven by Spirit Crystals, capable of barely dealing with the lowest-level Desert Worms.
Thus, a group of extraordinarily skilled companions rescued Nancy and the others, who were on the brink of annihilation, completely wiping out the insect swarm, which outnumbered them by at least fivefold.
