Chapter 111: ’Light Punishment’

Although she had already been exposed, Leon pretended he didn’t notice and entered the supermarket with Gwen.

The instant he entered, he was stumped. He already expected the supermarket to have been looted, probably having most of its goods stolen by the neighboring survivors.

However, he didn’t expect that... it would be completely untouched!

Every shelf was stocked to the brim with valuable supplies.

Leon’s gaze shifted from one section to another. Judging by its size, he concluded that it was definitely a renowned store before the apocalypse.

"Well, looks like we found a treasure trove, didn’t we?" Gwen smiled brightly, her eyes shining.

Although they had brought a lot of supplies from the university, those supplies had gone down by half, and would eventually be exhausted.

Luckily, they had stumbled upon this intact supermarket that was stocked to the brim.

Leon smiled faintly and ruffled Gwen’s hair. "You did a good job discovering this."

Receiving his praise, the girl giggled like a child, pleased with herself.

"Alright, let’s check it out and see the important things we would be needing."

There were too many things to be carried by the two of them alone, so they had to contact the others. However, Leon felt the need to list out the things he needed before sending out any message to the others.

The first section they visited contained staple foods—bags of rice, beans, flour, sugar, and other dry goods stacked neatly on the shelves. To Leon’s surprise, the amount of food was even more than they had gotten from the university’s cafeteria.

However, the stench of rotten meat and spoiled eggs ruined his mood.

’It’s a shame. I don’t know if we’ll be able to get something like mutated eggs in the future.’

Like Gwen, Leon covered his nose as they walked away from that section and began observing the others.

After spending half an hour making a full survey, Leon had noted the things that were absolutely important and needed to be taken.

’Large sacks of rice and flour, cooking oil and salt, canned food with long shelf lives, bottled water, medical supplies, cleaning supplies, flashlights and batteries, kitchen equipment, blankets and clothing, first aid kits. This... is really a lot, I must say.’

Humming to his mental note, he turned at the sound of footsteps approaching.

Gwen looked at him with a smile, her hands clasped together. He instantly noticed the beautiful diamond tiara she had fixed on her hair, adding a delicate sense of royalty to her beauty.

Seeing that he noticed, her smile widened. "Well, what do you think?"

Leon nodded, his lips curving in an imperceptible smile.

"It looks pretty, and it suits you."

Gwen could no longer hold back her smile and beamed brightly at the compliment. Then, she got serious again.

"Should we go back now? We have to make it quick so this place isn’t looted before we return."

The girl wasn’t naive anymore, and she knew that there could be humans nearby who would seize the opportunity to raid the supermarket once they left.

Leon shook his head, unbothered. "There’ll be no need for that."

"Huh?"

While Gwen was still wondering what was going on, Leon looked toward the next aisle, where rows of shelves stood like walls between them.

"Cassie, come out."

Gwen’s confusion deepened, but she remained silent.

Receiving no response, Leon’s expression darkened. "If you think I’m just guessing you’re around, you’re wrong. Now, get over here."

There was no response for a few seconds, then he heard footsteps approaching. Finally, Cassie revealed herself, clad in her combat gear and assassin’s cloak.

Unlike herself, she had her head lowered, and her steps were hesitant. Eventually, she brought herself before Leon and Gwen, unable to look them in the eyes.

Gwen was surprised. She hadn’t expected to see Cassie here. She was sure they had left her behind... right?

Leon, meanwhile, looked exasperated. "Why did you follow me? Didn’t I tell you to go with Marie and the rest?"

The black-haired assassin shifted uncomfortably. "Uh, well, you did."

Snorting, Leon asked, "Then why did you disobey me?"

"That... I just wanted to be sure you’re safe," She answered.

Gwen seemed stunned by the answer, her gaze softening. However, Leon only felt a flicker of annoyance.

’Why is she acting like a nanny? Does she think I’m that unlucky to always fall into dangerous situations?’

Sighing in his heart, he decided to give her a light punishment. Raising his hand, he pulled in his middle finger and flicked her forehead.

"Ow!"

Cassie looked up with an indignant expression, as if he was the one who had offended her.

Rolling his eyes, Leon offered no words of comfort. Instead, he even scolded her.

"Don’t give me that look. I only let you off with a light warning. Next time, I might tie you up on a mango tree or something."

Surprisingly, Cassie gave a playful smile, her usual grin returning.

"Hm? I’m not sure boss would do something so mean. At most, you’ll flick my forehead again, right?"

"Pfft-" Gwen stifled a laugh and quickly turned away, her shoulders trembling.

Meanwhile, Leon’s expression darkened. Was this girl seriously challenging him? Did Thyra put ideas into her head?

Leon stared at her smug smile. This brat had clearly concluded that he wouldn’t actually punish her.

’If I don’t correct this now, she’ll keep pushing her luck.’

He slowly raised his hand. Cassie immediately covered her forehead and shrunk slightly.

Seeing this, Leon smirked and brought down his hand. ’If only you knew.’

Pa!

"Ah!"

A crisp slap followed by a startled yelp rang out, bouncing off the walls of the supermarket.

Cassie’s hands flew to her rear, which throbbed painfully, and tears appeared at the corners of her eyes. Gwen turned around in shock, and seeing the girl’s state, she realized what had happened.

’H-He spanked her?!’

Ignoring Gwen’s shocked expression and Cassie’s pitiful look, Leon said in a firm tone.

"I’m letting you off with that. Now go back and get Richard to bring the bus. We have some things to move."

Cassie pouted, feeling indignant. However, seeing that he was serious, she could only grumble and comply.

Still holding her aching backside, the girl walked out of the supermarket, but not without leaving a word for Leon to hear.

"Bully."

’What a brat,’ He thought with a scoff, then turned to Gwen. "Is something wrong?"
