World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 109: Set Out (3)
Just as Leon had instructed, Marie and the others had gone to scout the eastern side of Williamsburg.
Although the streets weren’t packed, there were enough zombies and mutated beasts to put everyone on guard.
By the time they reached what appeared to be a school, they had killed more than fifty zombies and mutated beasts.
"Wow, really. That was a lot," Richard grumbled, wiping the blood of a mutated goat off his sword.
"Hm, you shouldn’t be tired yet. We still have a lot of distance to cover," Miguel grinned, smacking his back roughly.
Richard winced as pain flared from the impact, and he glared at Miguel.
"Dude!"
"Shh..." Marie suddenly brought a finger to her lips, silencing the duo. She strained her ears and caught the faint sounds of girls screaming.
Screams?
Her eyes immediately snapped towards the school campus adjacent to them, and she began moving.
"I think there are humans over here."
Hearing this, everyone in the group got serious, and they rushed through the open gates of the school. At their arrival, several zombies rushed to welcome them, but were instantly taken down by Miguel who simply crushed them to pulp.
The blonde guy was a completely unrefined fighter who fought with a savage grin on his face. Perhaps, this was his own dark side—a person who loved slaughter.
"Over there," Fel said quietly, pointing to a clearing in the distance.
There, everyone could see a grown man and some teenage students holding out against zombies that surrounded them.
Suddenly, Marie’s eyes caught a brown mutated dog rush at the students.
"Crap!"
Her eyes widened in panic, and she immediately chased after it. However, she was too far from the beast. It pinned down a girl, and was about to bite her throat when Little West saved the day.
The mutated cat acted without waiting for Richard’s command. It burst through the zombies and knocked the mutated dog off the girl, sending it skidding.
Richard’s eyes widened in shock and joy.
"Little West, kill that dog!"
Without hesitation, the large mutated cat shot at its enemy, and the two beasts were immediately locked together in a frenzy of fangs and claws.
Marie, Miguel, Richard, and Fel immediately went to rescue the students. The group of four made quick work of the zombies, casually eradicating them before any of the students could get scratched or killed.
When the last zombie fell to Fel’s spear, Quinn finally heaved a sigh and looked at the strangers before him with immense gratitude.
"Thank you! Thank you, really."
He said between exhausted breaths, his chest heaving.
"It’s alright." Marie gave him a firm nod, then looked around. "Take us to your hideout first. We can’t stay here to discuss."
Quinn nodded and led everyone back to the hostel. The cafeteria was only a short distance away., but they had to forfeit going there.
Perhaps they could convince this powerful group of evolvers to help them...
’I shouldn’t be naive. I have to be cautious around these people,’ Quinn thought as he glanced at the evolved team of four.
Although Richard looked harmless, Quinn could barely follow his movements while the guy was killing zombies. The guy even had a mutated beast as a pet.
Also, there was that burly guy who didn’t seem to mind the fact that he was covered in blood.
This group was definitely not simple.
When they all returned to the hostel, those who had been left behind were surprised to see them return safely and empty-handed. However, they were even more surprised when they saw Marie and the other three, including Little West who was like an obedient big cat.
Clarice immediately walked over, surprise and caution in her eyes. She glanced at Quinn, and he quickly made an introduction.
Marie and the others introduced themselves too, and the six of them met in a different room.
Marie looked at the two teachers with a serious expression, her arms folded.
"How many students are here in total? And are there others trapped elsewhere in the school?"
Clarice and Quinn glanced at each other, then the man answered.
"Excluding the two of us, there are thirty-seven other humans in this hostel. As for your second question, no. Everyone who’s alive on campus is in this hostel."
Fel’s eyes widened, her lips parting in surprise. Judging from how big the school was, there were definitely more than two hundred students here in the past.
Now, only thirty-seven remained. It was a pitiful number.
Marie’s eyes also darkened, but she was already expecting something like this. After all, some of the zombies they had killed earlier had been wearing school uniforms.
’These guys are trapped here. We can’t leave them behind, right?’
This was the third time she was encountering survivors, and she felt the need to rescue these people.
’That... will Leon agree with this? He won’t be against it, right?’
Noticing her hesitation, Miguel spoke up, "Hey, why are you hesitating? I’m sure boss wouldn’t mind having more people. Besides, we can’t just ignore them."
Hearing this, Quinn’s eyes lit up, and he realized the situation might actually be better than he imagined. It seemed they might receive salvation today.
Marie bit her lip, then nodded. "Alright. We’re taking them in. If boss says anything, I’ll take the blame."
"Wha—? Of course not. We’re making this decision together." Richard protested, a sulking expression on his face.
Marie smiled bitterly but didn’t argue. She turned to the teachers and said, "Gather all your students. We’re leaving this place. Also, I need you to take me to where your buses are."
Quinn’s eyes lit up, while Clarice was deeply moved. For weeks, they had dreamed of escaping this hellish campus.
Holding back joyful tears, Quinn asked, "Where are you guys taking us? Is it a government base?"
"Government base?" Miguel laughed out loud, then shook his head. "No, we’re not part of the government forces. We just happen to have our own group. Don’t worry, you guys will be safe with us."
Hearing this, Clarice’s eyes moistened with tears, and the blonde guy suddenly seemed more reliable.
Marie stood up and clapped. "Alright. Let’s begin the evacuation process."
