WILOW-Ch.443: Ygritte Becomes a Dragonlord

Underground Base, Imperial Lands

POV of Domeric Bolton

Ygritte screamed in pain as the ritual started, and the energy from the dragon eggs and the other ingredients poured inside her and changed her body.

Domeric had made some adjustments to the ritual circle after his own ritual, and as a result, the ritual was less painful than before.

But that didn’t mean it became completely painless. After all, the Dragonlord ritual was a ritual that completely transformed a person’s body, and it wasn’t possible to perform it entirely painlessly.

At least the pain of the ritual was now bearable.

But that wasn’t the only change Domeric made.

He had modified the ritual, as Ygritte had previously requested, to create a bond between them. The original ritual was designed to cause attraction between those who underwent it and their descendants.

This was the main reason why incestuous relationships were common among the Targaryens and possibly other Valyrian houses.

This was likely because the Valyrians didn’t want the Dragonlord blood to dilute over time. But ultimately, this led to genetic disorders like Dragon Madness due to incestuous relationships.

Therefore, Domeric would have to make the necessary adjustments to this part of the ritual anyway. After all, he didn’t want his own children to be attracted to each other. The mere thought of it was enough to make him nauseous.

And while making this change, he added a modification so that Ygritte would only be interested in and form a bond with him, not with other Dragonlords.

Since this bond changed from being interested in many people with the same trait to being bonded to only one person, it would be a high-level bond. But he didn’t know if it would reach the soul-bond level. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

At least, it wasn’t too difficult for him to do. All he had to do was use his own blood as a binding material to create a bond between them.

And while doing this, he was also thinking of fulfilling another wish of Ygritte’s, making her capable of using magic as well.

His blood entering Ygritte’s body through the ritual would transfer some of his magic to her.

Normally, this wouldn’t be possible through pure blood alone, but the Dragonlord ritual transformed an ordinary person into a magical one. Domeric was simply using the ritual’s inherent ability to transfer his own wizarding magic to Ygritte.

Of course, he didn’t expect her to be as powerful as he was, but he hoped she would at least possess as much magic as a normal witch from his old world.

Then, by merging her with a Magical Core, Ygritte would be able to use his wizarding magic easily.

And after that, it would be guaranteed that their future children would also be magical.

But, all this information didn’t help him one bit as Ygritte lay at the center of the ritual circle and thrashed in pain.

Although this pain wasn’t as intense as his own, Domeric couldn’t bear to see her like that. That’s why he tried to distract himself, thinking about the changes he’d made to the ritual.

But it wasn’t exactly effective.

Moreover, he couldn’t give her a potion to numb her senses, any kind of painkiller, or the infamous Milk of the Puppy, as an unknown substance like that might not react well with the ritual and could cause side effects at best or derail the whole ritual and kill her at worst.

He clutched his fists and bit his teeth as hard as he could, hoping that the physical pain would distract him from the emotional pain he was feeling upon seeing Ygritte go through so much pain and not being able to help her at all.

He took a chair and sat down in the corridor outside the ritual room and sighed.

There was really nothing that he could do to help her. This was something she would have to do on her own.

And she would come out of this ritual better and wouldn’t get any permanent negative effects.

All these reassurances didn’t make him feel any better, and he just knew that the next few hours were going to be really unpleasant for him.

Finally, 3 hours after the ritual began, it ended.

He could tell because the magical power churning inside the ritual room stopped all at once.

He immediately opened the door and ran up to her.

Ygritte was lying in the center of the ritual circle, which had now turned to ash.

Her naked body was filled with black soot. Her palms were bleeding from where she had dug her fingers into them. Her once-red, but now silver hair, was disheveled, and her breathing was shallow and raspy.

He immediately transfigured the floor into a soft substance and cast a spell on her to make her warm.

Then he took out the medic kit he’d prepared for her and took out three potion vials.

He removed the cork and fed her the potions one by one, using magic to make sure that the potion didn’t enter her lungs.

She groaned as he gave her the last potion, but didn’t wake up. That was good. Despite the potions, she would still be in shadow pain from the long and painful ritual.

He picked her up and took her to another room he’d created for this exact moment, which he’d aptly named Recovery Room.

He slowly laid her down on the bed and then pointed his wand at her and said, "Scourgify."

With the effect of the cleaning charm, the soot, dirt, and dried blood covering her body disappeared, and he was able to see her properly after the ritual for the first time.

Unlike him, who was not the epitome of handsomeness before the ritual, she was quite beautiful. But after the ritual, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that she was easily the most beautiful girl in the whole of Westeros... no, in the whole world.

Following his own ritual, his body was extremely weak, almost skin and bones.

But this was one of the biggest improvements Domeric had made in the ritual. In fact, it was the main reason Ygritte’s ritual was so delayed.

In the first Dragonlord ritual, Domeric’s body had been severely deprived of water and food, leaving it in a weakened state. But now, Domeric had ensured that the necessary nutrients were delivered directly to the body by the ritual itself.

Therefore, Ygritte’s body wasn’t as emaciated as his. And Domeric was relieved that the changes he had made worked flawlessly.

He put her in a spooning position and lay down on the bed behind her, then covered both of them with the blanket.

He might have spent the past few hours doing nothing but sitting in his chair, but they had been the most emotionally exhausting hours of his life.

And all he wanted to do right now was rest with Ygritte and be there for her the next time she woke up.
