Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam
Chapter 656 - 52: Is This Flourishing Age as You Wish?
Overnight, the Rocket Team became the largest and most evil organization within the Kingdom, especially after the news of Olede the Eleventh's demise and the total annihilation of the Royal Summoner Association spread. The number of people joining the Rocket Team skyrocketed, and the fall of the Royal Capital proclaimed the ultimate decline of this millennium-old civilization.
With the fall of the Crimson Queen, the rules she penned, along with this fairy-tale-like harmonious world, were destroyed.
The allied forces of the various cities had not yet reached the Divine Tree when they learned of the Royal Capital's fall. A few days after the Rocket Team was formed, a cadre from the Royal Capital, former poacher leader "Razor" Modos, gave a public speech. He addressed the bewildered Kingdom residents, recounting Olede the Eleventh's actions before his demise:
Members of the Royal Family ordered Minister Ferrock to give an inspiring conscription speech in the square of the Royal Capital, promising that the elite from the Royal Family and the Summoner Association would fight alongside the Kingdom's residents to the death.
However, in reality, less than a day after the speech, the Olede Royal Family and the association's elites fled the Royal Capital, leaving all the volunteer armies in the city to die. Modos exposed the hypocrisy of the Royal Family and the minister, viewing them as nothing more than treacherous villains, the consistent protectors of whom had been the Crimson Queen.
An ostensibly selfless and great ruler was, in fact, the true source of corruption for this Kingdom.
"Has the sky fallen?"
Rowena, holding the latest issue of the Cuckoo Bird Daily, blurted out after reading this part, "This 'Razor' Modos is quite a ruthless character."
This passionate and articulate article posed a sharp question to every Kingdom resident who read the newspaper—would you continue to follow the deeply corrupt Royal Family, or use your own hands to build a new, fair, and free civilization?
The demise of the Olede Royal Family was inevitable, the future of this world was in the hands of everyone who saw the newspaper.
The newspaper also emphasized that this was a matter of choice, unrelated to status or rank.
No matter if you were once a poacher or a servant of the nobility, you can now become a member of the Rocket Team, as unity is currently the most powerful weapon people have. As long as people in each city unite, neither the remnants of the Olede Royal Family nor the mechanical creatures wandering outside the city should be feared.
"It seems many capable individuals have voluntarily joined your ranks, bringing you one step closer to becoming a true villain leader."
Rowena congratulated Ethan.
"I despise people like that the most."
The Other Shore rarely offered an opinion, "They should have perished with the Olede Royal Family."
This was a village near the Royal Capital.
Or more accurately, it was the remnants of a village, reduced to ashes, with charred bodies scattered everywhere. This was clearly not the act of an invading creature, as the corpses were neatly gathered in the square. Judging by the arrangement of the bodies, they were tied together just before death, forced to watch as the flames consumed them all...
Among the bodies were the elderly and children.
A sign that read "Refuge" was also broken into several pieces, deeply embedded in the ground.
This village had only been established recently. A wandering merchant had built it; it was located on the road connecting the Kingdom and nearby cities. The village accepted refugees fleeing from all over. The merchant orchestrated the refugees to cultivate the land and set up a security team to maintain peace. When "Razor" and the Rocket Team members arrived here, the villagers were discussing whether to alert the survivors in the Royal Capital about the Refuge's existence, while at the same time needing to set up defenses against the creatures on the outskirts.
The merchant and security team refused the forced conscription order by "Razor" and ordered these treacherous troublemakers to leave the village.
But clearly, the summoners here were not adept at warfare between individuals. Their mindsets remained stuck in the past's fair magical creature battles, while in the current environment, "Razor" and the Rocket Team members mastered more advanced tactics—attacking the summoners.
Humans, without the protection of the Crimson Queen, were vulnerable, even the most ordinary gray wolf could easily tear through a human body.
All the members of the security team were annihilated in battle. "Razor" ordered everyone to bring the village's elderly, weak, sick, and disabled to the square, to make everyone understand the consequences of opposing the Rocket Team.
All this information came from a member of the Rocket Team, who claimed to be "Razor's" adjutant, accompanied by several cuckoo birds and a few former newspaper employees who had joined the Rocket Team. They were drafting new reports, using the outcome of the Refuge to warn everyone about the consequences of resisting the Rocket Team.
The Rocket Team member also mentioned that "Razor" and his men abducted some young, beautiful women as the organization's latest reward method. "Razor" greatly encouraged the enthusiasm of the team members during raids with this first-come, first-served approach.
Whether women or previous loot, every member leading from the front during raids could choose to keep three items of their choice. Inspired by this call, some newly joined Rocket Team members eagerly joined in the looting spree.
"But speaking of which, Other Shore, don't you think this Modos is quite resourceful? They actually cleared the Royal Capital of wandering mutants and occupied the entire Royal Palace, setting it as the Rocket Team's headquarters."
