Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam
Chapter 615 - 34: The Other Side of the Lake
Lindong originally didn't like traveling. Her ideal state was to curl up at home, preferably with meals delivered to her doorstep. Yet, occasionally, there would be exceptions.
Like now, standing on Ethan's shoulder and feeling the damp air outside Fogwood County, she rarely finds herself able to calm down and appreciate the unique scenery under the foggy sky. Fogwood County is surrounded by forests, and if you follow the deep path, you will venture into the mountains where there is a lake often frequented by mist weaver antelopes.
Lindong wished time could slow down a bit more.
She examined the shapes of the forest leaves carefully for the first time and the distribution of bushes and flower clusters. She also noticed the speed of the stream's flow, and if she turned her gaze deeper, she would see...
A sneaky little bat hiding behind a tree.
Lindong thought that a foggy day was a good day for practicing ice arrows.
"Hey there, Lindong, Old Sen, what a coincidence that you're out shopping too."
A moment later, a purple bat with an ice arrow on its head fluttered and flew in front of Ethan. This seemed like a well-orchestrated coincidence, filled with theatricality, with a tone resembling a West Coast rapper.
"Not a coincidence."
The cat's eyes were wide enough to almost shoot out fire, "And definitely not a chance encounter."
Clearly, only by following from the Market District of Fogwood County all the way here could such a coincidence be staged. Rowena's persistence was astounding, yet she often applied it in the wrong ways. Lindong really couldn't comprehend what kind of obsession could drive Rowena to risk being attacked by ice arrows just to act as a third wheel.
Lindong purposely waited until Rowena had fallen asleep before going out, not expecting it to be intentionally arranged as a false pretense by the other party.
To Lindong, if Rowena could channel this energy into dating, with her prominent looks and current status, she might really have as many romantic experiences as she fantasizes. But this fellow was terribly twisted in character; previously, whenever flowers or confession letters were sent to her, Rowena wouldn't even glance at them and would just throw them into the trash.
She continued to maintain a state of not dating and not wanting anyone else to date.
This twisted emotion, somehow...felt oddly familiar?
Lindong suddenly fell into contemplation.
She had definitely seen someone like Rowena before. It seemed to be someone she met with daily, yet when she truly thought about it, she couldn't recall any clues.
Just like the weather in Fogwood County, everything seemed to be shrouded in dense fog.
"What did you overhear just now?"
"I heard there's someone here who wants to lay an egg, so I came specifically to observe."
"Hiss—!"
For a moment, Lindong wanted to revert to her wild nature. According to the laws of nature, cats are supposed to eat bats, right?
"Actually..."
Rowena coughed lightly and said, "I think what Old Sen mentioned earlier was quite accurate. Humans generally fear their brothers might suffer, yet also dread them driving a luxury SUV like a Land Rover."
As a partner and friend, she was genuinely happy for Lindong's encounter with Ethan, witnessing how her formerly gloomy companion was now optimistic and cheerful, often playful like a hissing cat. It warmed her heart.
"I think the progress in your relationship is just right here. Any further, and it might be a bit impolite."
Rowena had to point out that Lindong's current behavior was like secretly driving a luxury SUV behind a friend's back...no, considering Ethan's identity, it ought to be a Rolls-Royce.
Though she hadn't seen a Rolls-Royce, Ethan had mentioned it as the best luxury car, and she had already reserved one from Ethan. Once the Rolls-Royce debuted, she planned to drive it down the Imperial Capital's streets.
"Rowena..."
Lindong's gaze grew increasingly dangerous, "I can offer you one more chance to explain. Please seize this final opportunity."
"Actually, I came tracking the 'crazy robot'."
The purple little bat immediately changed its tone and spoke seriously.
Rowena knew Lindong well, and seeing the cat's stance readying its claws, she realized Lindong was genuinely ready to scratch.
"Continue."
The cat pulled at Rowena's wings with both paws, glaring at her intensely.
"Aren't you curious where he ran off to after summoning a fog?"
"I'm not curious."
Lindong expressionlessly replied. She was in high spirits and had no interest in anyone besides Ethan. Only the third wheel that came to ruin her affairs deserved a good lesson.
"He actually followed us here!"
Rowena struggled and shouted, Ice arrows could be withstood, but Lindong's grappling techniques were truly unbearable. If she continued to provoke Lindong, this cat might really rip her wings off.
The force on Lindong's claws diminished slightly, and the little bat seized the chance, abruptly flapping its wings, escaping the talons.
"Where is he?"
"At the lakeside."
Before leaving Fogwood County, Rowena had gathered relevant information. The first person to discover the 'crazy robot' was the first friend they met after arriving in this dimension, Mr. Turban. It was also in the depths of the fog at the time, before they explored towards a lake.
"Look there!"
Rowena flew forward, landing in front of the trap set by the poachers. Ahead was the lake mentioned, where they discovered a mist weaver antelope of an unusually large size.
She saw it too.
A mist weaver antelope much larger than usual, with its abdomen gruesomely cut open, still lingered by the lakeside. It heard the commotion behind and turned its head to gaze quietly at Ethan and the others amidst the forest. After a moment of mutual staring, it finally turned its head back and entered the wooden cabin which wasn't mentioned by Mr. Turban and others.
