Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 797 - 516: The Grand Map Is a Man’s Romance
"Truly a grand gesture, Gedwin."
Sain Dungeon, in the City Lord’s room.
A City Lord, who looked like a regular human with a mohawk-haired, cloaked, muscular appearance, sighed in a voice rough enough to crush stones.
This was Panson, the Giant Stone Dungeon Lord, who had once warmly invited Gong Qiying to set up a dungeon in the Warrior Country.
"Making such a huge map debut in the Warrior Country, I can deeply feel your confidence!"
"Be careful not to exhaust all your spiritual power," the well-acquainted Glory Dungeon Lord Gladiator suggested hesitantly, "If you’re short, I can lend you a bit, just a little."
"If you put it like that, I might seriously consider using you as a backup hidden energy source."
The Sain Dungeon City Lord Gedwin, or rather Gong Qiying, paused his scribbling in the notebook, which was filled with future revision notes, and walked over to the two Lords.
Upon closer inspection, the entire microscopic model of the Sain Dungeon’s branch in the Warrior Country was plainly spread out in front of Paine and the Gladiator, albeit just a rough model; delving into the map design of each small area could be challenging.
Tepi was right, this newly appeared area was ridiculously large, so large that even other Dungeon Lords found it incomprehensible.
"Originally, I didn’t plan to make it this big; the initial plan was just to open up this area of the map."
Gong Qiying swept his hand over the micro-model, circling the region of Nimgefo.
"But then some episodes came up; I spent some time in Red handling the escape of sealed items. Besides dealing with the sealed items, I was preparing for the sub-city of Warrior Country, designing all sorts of things. Resultingly, things piled up more and more, and the map kept getting bigger."
He spread his hands helplessly: "The final product ended up several times bigger than originally planned."
"But you can completely release it bit by bit, right? Releasing it all at once, aren’t you afraid it will become exhausting later?" the Gladiator questioned, feeling Gong Qiying was somewhat making things difficult for himself.
Opening an area too large not only burdens spiritual power but also leaves adventurers bewildered on where to start when they first arrive, potentially wasting the map without fully engaging it.
Moreover, it’s unknown what the Warrior Country’s attitude toward Sain Dungeon will be. Such a massive investment suddenly is a bit risky.
"The meaning of life lies in adventure, brother!" Panson, passionate on his own, exclaimed.
"Panson is right!" Gong Qiying took the opportunity to extend his hand with a smile. "A life without adventure is pointless; our drill will pierce the heavens!"
Panson understood instantly, and the two of them clapped hands with a "snap," with the crisp sound echoing throughout the room.
Do you two have such a close relationship, and what’s with the drill... their behavior left the Gladiator baffled.
The size of the new map Gong Qiying launched this time was indeed unprecedentedly large.
Besides being idle while dealing with parasites, constantly adding to the new map until he got tired of it, there was also a personal ambition:
Would it be called Elden Ring without a large map!
What you see is what you get; that’s the way!
But how exactly this grand scope plays out will have to be left to the adventurers to explore and realize for themselves.
In addition, while Gong Qiying researched the new map, he was also patching it, making everything seemingly more rational, with the biggest patch being the place people choose to recollect memories of the Elden King when entering.
Why introduce each boss separately in a recollection format? Not to use memories to limit the map, such as choosing Greg’s memory only accessing Nimgefo, or choosing Latan’s memory only reaching Galide; that would be dull.
The true purpose of recollection is that when an adventurer chooses a memory of a particular boss, that boss will appear where they should be, ready for challenge, while other bosses remain unchallengable for storyline reasons. As the adventurer unlocks more memories, these unlocked memories merge, eventually allowing all bosses to be challenged.
Except for Lake Lienia.
Why go to such lengths?
This gets to the point because the root of all evil is Lake Lienia!
This area was carved out and opened up by Gong Qiying ahead of time, also receiving a major overhaul in its backstory, making it impossible to group with the likes of Nimgefo!
Yet, he wanted Lake Lienia in the Yanor Kingdom to connect with other areas in the Warrior Country; this would be entertaining, but what about incompatible styles? Hence, the format of recollection was born.
When adventurers choose the memory of the Full Moon Queen, Lake Lienia returns to its original form, with the boss changing back to the Full Moon Queen—not the Biomimetic Tear Drop of the modified version of the Full Moon Queen.
This means Lake Lienia was divided into two parts in Sain.
One is a lifestyle modified version, the other is an exploratory original version, both not affecting each other like parallel lines, but adventurers can enter the Sain Dungeon Warrior Country branch city through the modified version, and when these adventurers return, Lake Lienia will have become the original version.
For now, this is the patch Gong Qiying came up with.
Besides the patch, the repositioning of Monsters, strengthening of Monster abilities, altering drop items, shifts in residual shadows’ position, etc., are also numerous, all showing how idle Gong Qiying was while dealing with parasites.
"Oh well, how to design the dungeon is your business, not ours."
The gladiator shook his head in silence and said, "About the issues we discussed before, regarding this country, how do you see it now?"
At this point, Gong Qiying also put away his smile and said, "I see it quite clearly."
"So what did you see?"
"A total of forty-seven people entered my dungeon this time. Excluding the twenty-three civilians who didn’t dare to explore, the remaining twenty-four have explored to varying degrees. Among them, one even traveled to a far distance."
Gong Qiying flipped through his notebook and said:
"But among these twenty-four people, apart from a few I know... almost all of them are using magic to confront enemies."
It’s hard to imagine, even the burly guards dragged into the Sain Dungeon by Tepi pulled out magic wands and used flashy magic to fight monsters. The guards were still quite skilled in hand-to-hand combat and could efficiently use melee weapons, but the others entirely relied on magic.
If it wasn’t called the Warrior Country, he would think he had brought in the Magic Association.
"Yes, this is the current state of the Warrior Country."
The gladiator said with a face full of black lines, "They say they want to implement magic warriors, but when it comes to actual combat, all these people rely on magic, avoiding using swords and knives where possible. Moreover, Gedwin, did you notice a common trait in these people’s demeanor?"
Gong Qiying stared at the few people using magic. Their arms were weak when casting magic, they flinched and screamed when monsters attacked, constantly thinking about washing their hands...
He blurted out two words:
"Sissies?"
The gladiator didn’t understand what ’sissies’ meant, but from the word ’sissy,’ he inferred it might be what he thought, so he nodded and said:
"Learning magic is no big deal, but now these people show a loss of fighting spirit. I can’t figure out what’s going on, but..."
He gritted his teeth and said:
"The traffic in my dungeon is obviously affected!"
His Glory Dungeon was designed for the passionate combat between warriors, yet now the foot traffic declines, and the speed of refreshing the Glory Stele that shows the ranks of fighters has slowed down significantly.
The underlying transformation happening in Warrior Country has genuinely affected the management of his dungeon!
"The quality of adventurers on my side isn’t good either," Panson agreed. "Even the miners who come to dig every day are affected."
The two city lords were filled with indignation, unable to understand what caused the changes in people.
Gong Qiying realized the purpose of the two city lords pulling him over was very clear, that is—
To rejuvenate the warrior spirit of Warrior Country’s residents, regardless of gender!
"Make warriors warrior-like again!" the gladiator shouted.
"He’s right!" Panson also shouted.
Gong Qiying was infected by the passionate scene and then asked:
"So how are we going to do it?"
Unexpectedly, both of them turned their gaze to him, a silence more potent than words.
Gong Qiying’s mouth twitched as he pointed to himself and said, "So you dragged me here because you’ve run out of solutions yourselves?"
Both nodded quite honestly.
"Brother, I’ve been observing your dungeon for a long time," Panson said sincerely. "There’s a magic about your dungeon that can turn the most timid weakling into someone who dares to draw a blade against invincible beings."
The gladiator nodded and said, "I’ve observed some adventurers who went to your dungeon before coming to mine. Some people who previously only hid behind their companions when encountering monsters changed after returning from your place. They take the initiative against any monster and yell about leaving their soul with me when fighting humans, showing that ancient berserker style. "
"So, Gedwin," his eyes were filled with earnestness, "you surely have a way to reverse this negative trend, right?"
If I say my method is turning people from sissies into Soul V noble creatures?
This method has been proven effective through the examples of Leon and others, but Gong Qiying feels aesthetic fatigue from watching a group of noble creatures marathon brawling in the dungeon every day.
"Leave it to me, I’ll turn people into the purest warriors! Of course, you also have to assist me."
Gong Qiying said with determined eyes.
This time, he’s going to turn the people of the Warrior Country into the most authentic warriors.
No noble creatures at all!
