Warhammer Divine Throne
Chapter 873 - 385: Ratman Grand Offensive! (Part 1)
As a legendary high-tier Ice and Mind Element female sorcerer, Teresa's ice wall was naturally very sturdy. Whether they were the lowest-ranking Slave Rat soldiers or the higher Clan Rat soldiers, they were helpless against the ice wall. Their long spears and knives could only chip away a few ice shards.
But this doesn't mean that the ratmen are entirely helpless before the ice wall.
Amidst the ratmen's chaotic shouting, a Fire Rat appeared.
This Fire Rat was clad in armor, carrying a bronze cannon barrel in his hands, with a peculiar device on his back resembling a backpack. On the top of the backpack was a massive dimensional stone, the device was gathering energy from the stone.
Dimensional stone is a peculiar mineral whose source is not ordinary veins, but comes from the Chaos Domain. When the Wind of Chaos passes through the interstellar teleportation gate left by the Ancient Saints into the Mortal World, the powerful Chaos Energy condenses to form dimensional stone.
The dimensional stone contains tremendous Chaos Energy that can be directly utilized, but it also causes mutation in organisms that come into contact with it. Only a very few mutations lead to improvement, such as the Griffin, but the majority make the organisms more terrifying and twisted.
Yet under such conditions, the Skaven ratmen successfully utilized the energy from dimensional stone for a series of technological inventions, like the dimension cannon that collapsed the Hemgart barracks, and the flamethrower in the Fire Rat's hands.
"Human thing, hide, strong, big ratman, use fire, die-die!" The ratman activated the flamethrower, gathering energy from the dimensional stone, to burn the ice wall.
The green dimensional stone flame was melting the ice wall created by Teresa.
Amidst the ratmen's chaotic shouting, the ice wall melted.
Inside the ice wall were several fully armed figures.
"???" The ratmen were somewhat bewildered.
"Ready?" Laine raised his Warhammer with both hands, first appearing from the alleyway. Looking at these Slave Rats and Clan Rats, he exposed a cruel expression towards the horde of ratmen.
"The battle begins."
Fully armed Divine Chosen Champion Laine, the heroic and valiant female knight Surya, and Veronica in flaming red leather, surrounded by fire, appeared before the Skaven ratmen.
"Ha!" Laine was the first to charge forward, Mjolnir swept across, and all the gathered twenty-plus Skaven ratmen in front of him were knocked flying. He smashed the Fire Rat into a pile of pulp with one hammer. Surya wielded the Leonais Sword, its flames blazing, turning any Skaven ratman approaching her into ash.
"Flaming Storm!" Veronica raised Yundi's Staff, the red fiery vortex covering the entire block.
The rat tide near Oliver Inn was temporarily cleared.
"Divide and act!"
"Yes!"
...
Hemgart, Red Hundred Fruit Inn.
The inn was already in chaos. Those huge Skaven ratmen were trying to invade this rundown inn. Although the people inside tried using tables and wood to prop up the inn's door, it was of little use, and the sound of cutting boards outside was heard,
"What's going on, what's exactly going on?"
"Where is the Count's army?"
"Demon Hunter sir, please save us!"
The inn was filled with the cries of women and children. People huddled desperately in room corners, awaiting death's arrival.
With a serious face, Demon Hunter Abel held a silver rapier in one hand and a short fire cannon in the other.
It's Skaven ratmen! The Demon Hunter leaned against the back of the door, observing the outside through the window's gap.
The streets were full of ratmen! These ratmen killed and devoured adults completely, dragged away children and young people into sewers and deep pits, never to be seen again.
Too many! A chilling sensation gripped Abel's heart as he watched the rat tide on the streets, gripping the rapier and fire cannon tightly. Even as a powerful Demon Hunter, he didn't know what to do under the current circumstances.
The ratmen had noticed the commotion in the inn. Slave Rats and Clan Rats were desperately trying to ram the door, while inside, adult men pushed hard against the door to prevent ratmen from breaking into the inn.
"Demon Hunter sir, what should we do?" Many desperate adults asked Abel, who was the only one who could help them.
"Wait, wait, let me think of a way." Abel's forehead was drenched in sweat, unsure what to do. He had seen the military camp ablaze, but given the chaos, how could they rely on the garrison to assist?
Although he was a Legendary Tier Demon Hunter, surviving such a terrifying scale of rat tide attack was impossible. The ground, rooftop, trenches, sewers, all teemed with human-sized ratmen!
Facing one-on-one and one-on-hundred are entirely different concepts!
"Boom~ boom~ boom~" Heavy footsteps thundered on the roof, ratmen were digging holes overhead!
"Crack!" A green glass ball fell through a small hole in the roof, shattered upon hitting the ground, filling the room with green poison gas.
"Poison Gas Ball!!!" Abel shouted, "Quickly evade!"
Too late, the inn was overcrowded, people stampeded and squeezed but couldn't escape the green gas.
Within seconds, people started coughing, their skin broke out in red bumps and pus-filled blisters, old people began experiencing difficulty in breathing, losing vision.
Another green glass ball fell from the ceiling, Abel knew the inn couldn't be defended. He rolled away from the poison ball and fixed his gaze on the ceiling.
There overhung a rat with glowing green eyes, wearing a gas mask and carrying a massive backpack filled with green glass balls.
Abel raised his hand cannon.
"Bang!"
The giant rat's head erupted in a spray of blood, falling limply from the ceiling.
It was futile. More ratmen were charging in! They finally broke the ceiling and door, rushing in cruelly and cunningly. Despite adults raising crude weapons to fight, sly ratmen offered no chance with each shielded Clan Rat attacking from the front, and more Slave Rats sneaking from behind and the sides. In an instant, the resistance was engulfed by the rat tide, Slave Rats gnawing madly at human flesh.
The inn turned into a bloody wasteland.
Abel snarled and charged, his rapier precisely piercing two Slave Rats' eyes. The Demon Hunter twisted around to avoid an ambushing Long Spear, unleashing three strikes with the rapier.
Three Slave Rats fell decapitated, the Demon Hunter stabbed twice to fend off nearby Slave Rats.
Useless, despite Abel's valiant struggle, the invading ratmen were unceasing, and the defense line retreated every moment under the poison's influence. Many adults' bodies began to fester, limbs weakened, quickly overwhelmed by the rat tide, while children were dragged away by ratmen coldly laughing.
"Damn it! Damn it!" The inn turned into a hell of gore, Abel fought with desperation as the rat tide cornered him.
At this moment, behind the rat swarm, a Storm Assault Rat clad in red armor wielding a long halberd commanded the rat tide.
"Human thing! Die-die!"
That must be the leader of the rat swarm! Abel's mind raced, understanding rodent nature, he decided to gamble.
The Demon Hunter slashed his way through surrounding ratmen, pulling out a specially designed fire cannon from his pocket, this rune-enchanted fire cannon was loaded with mercury bullets.
Mercury bullets were expensive, and Abel had no other choice left.
"For Charlemagne! For the Empire! For humanity!!!" The fire cannon discharged, the bullets whistling towards the Storm Assault Rat.
"Blam!" The Storm Assault Rat's head exploded, brain matter and flesh spraying everywhere, it fell dead by Abel's shot.
"Oh oh oh! Human, strong, Skaven, weak!" The impact was immediate. With the swift demise of the Storm Assault Rat, the entire rat swarm plunged into chaos, the Slave Rats and Clan Rats' fragile bravery shattered, hesitating whether to continue the attack.
This is the Skaven ratmen's nature, bullying the weak and fearing the strong, vying for power. Now, the thought of seizing leadership stirred in their minds, temporarily displacing their slaughtering human target.
This hesitation saved the Red Hundred Fruit Inn.
"Flaming Skull!" A female witch's shout heralded a massive fiery skull sweeping across the entire street, incinerating the whole rat swarm to char under the might of magic.
Reinforcements arrived!
