Chapter 92: Breeder is just a cat

The creature was gigantic, resembling an enormous cat.

Trevor tiptoed calmly toward where it lay, attempting to sneak up on it and deliver a final blow. But the moment he got close, the cat roared awake as if it had sensed the danger all along.

This time, however, something changed.

It began reproducing at an alarming rate. Cats started to form around its body, multiplying rapidly. Yet, to Trevor’s shock, instead of attacking, the massive beast simply rested its head again and went back to sleep.

"You have to be kidding me," Trevor muttered.

He quickly leapt to the side, barely dodging one of the newly formed cats.

They were fast. Their strikes were deadly. Even a single hit from one of them could kill him. And now, there were six surrounding him.

It was like walking straight into a death trap.

"So much for killing them quickly," Trevor thought calmly as he moved into action.

He swung his sword, slicing cleanly through the cat in front of him. It split into two equal halves instantly. He couldn’t tell whether it was the weapon or the card’s power, but the result was undeniable.

The other cats grew furious and charged at him, but Trevor had already accepted that he couldn’t afford to waste time. He cut through them like a butcher, showing no hesitation, no mercy.

He kept fighting, cutting down every cat that appeared. But soon, a realization struck him.

If he continued like this, he would never reach the breeder.

The creature would keep producing more and more copies, and eventually, he would grow exhausted. And when that happened, it would finally act and deal the finishing blow.

Trevor saw through the strategy immediately.

No wonder the breeder had gone back to sleep. It didn’t need to move. It didn’t need to fight.

He wasn’t the first to come here, and the creature was certain he wouldn’t be the last.

All it had to do was wait.

Trevor staggered backward as another wave of cats rushed toward him.

His sword moved faster than his thoughts, adrenaline surging through his veins.

He knew, with near certainty, that if he continued like this, he would die.

But he had no choice.

He kept hacking through the cats, his mind racing for a solution.

Then, suddenly, Caroline’s words resurfaced in his mind.

She might have broken his trust, but there was a time when she had genuinely trained him.

"In combat, it doesn’t matter how you win. As long as you win, that’s all that matters."

The words echoed repeatedly, though he wasn’t entirely sure how to apply them.

Then a message appeared in his mind:

[The Werewolf Card is reaching its limit and will enter cooldown mode soon.]

Trevor’s heart pounded.

He had to think. And fast.

He continued cutting down the cats when a sudden idea flashed through his mind.

This was a dungeon. The mana density was high.

Why not use ancient magic?

He considered the idea carefully.

He hadn’t practiced ancient magic as much as he would have liked, but it seemed like his only option.

And since the breeder was asleep, there was no way it could dodge a well-aimed fireball.

Still, there were risks.

He might fail to summon it.

His card might enter cooldown before he succeeded. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Everything could go wrong.

But he didn’t hesitate.

Trevor moved swiftly, pushing forward, carving a path through the cats as he closed the distance between himself and the breeder.

Once he was close enough, he reached out, drawing in the mana around him, shaping it into a massive fireball.

Without wasting a second, he hurled it directly at the breeder.

[The Werewolf Card has now entered cooldown mode.]

Almost instantly, Trevor was overwhelmed by the remaining cats.

He didn’t even know if his attack had succeeded.

Now stripped of his enhanced abilities, he was just a human. No essence. No card. No advantage.

Still, he struggled.

But just as the cats were about to overwhelm him completely...

They vanished.

All of them.

Trevor staggered to his feet, breathing heavily, and looked toward the breeder.

The massive cat was writhing, rolling across the ground, desperately trying to extinguish the flames consuming its body.

Then, a notification appeared:

Congratulations. You have killed a Level 4 monster.

Strength: 60 + 15

Agility: 46 + 15

Stamina: 68 + 12

Magic: 52 + 20

Lust Essence: 3500 + 500 = 4000

Eyes of Hades — Level 4

Whispering Shadows — Level 3

Essence Cloner — Level 2

Trevor stared in shock.

He couldn’t understand why he had received an overall boost to all his stats when he had only slain a single monster.

Without wasting any time, he exited the cave, his body and hands coated in blood.

The air outside felt light. Almost too light, as though he had been suffocating inside without realizing it.

"Thank goodness you’re back!" the dwarves rushed toward him, inspecting his injuries with concern.

"Yes, I’m back. It’s dead. So you can give me my map now, and I’ll be on my way," Trevor said calmly.

"Here, take this," one of the dwarves said, handing him a liquid. "It’s a medicine we prepared. It will help your injuries heal."

Trevor hesitated, unsure.

Before he could refuse, one dwarf suddenly picked up a stone and smashed it against another dwarf’s head.

Before the injured dwarf could even complain, the first one forced the liquid into his mouth.

Almost instantly, the wound healed.

"See? It’s not poison," another said, holding the cup out to Trevor.

"We just need your injuries gone before you see the Queen Mother."

"The Queen Mother?" Trevor repeated in shock.
