Unwanted Marriage: Honey, No More Divorce!
Chapter 580: I’m Sorry, I Didn’t Handle This Well
On the second day, Zen woke up early to make breakfast for Christian as he had demanded.
After he had finished eating, Christian left the house.
After Zen had cleared the dining table, she walked to the door, reached out, and locked it from the inside.
Then, she went to the room that Christian never let her into.
Zen had only been in the room twice.
The first time, she had snuck in out of curiosity and saw some items related to Wendy.
The other time was when she quarreled with Christian. She deliberately poked his sore spot to embarrass him.
Even if she knew what was in the room, when she saw those items again, she couldn’t help but feel disgust build up inside her.
How perverted must he be to collect things that a woman had used?
Although she knew that Christian had left for work, her heart was racing from the fear of being caught.
She locked the door and started looking everywhere for the safe.
Zen had never seen the safe before, but according to Wendy and the others, such important thing probably won’t be left in an obvious spot.
The room was huge, and Zen looked carefully little by little.
...
At the same time, Christian had already arrived at the company.
His usual place of residence was near the company, and it only takes him a few minutes to travel to and from the office.
As he entered the office, Christian had just sat down while taking out his mobile phone when he saw an emergency alert pop up on the phone.
This reminder alerted him that someone had entered his room and triggered a hidden mechanism.
Suddenly, Christian stood up. Holding his mobile phone, he quickly walked out.
As he walked, Christian made a phone call, "Who is in my house?"
The first person that came to mind was Michael.
Michael had always been looking for the safe.
It was just that he searched all over Lake City, but he hadn’t found it yet.
Christian had intentionally kept the safe hidden in his home. That way, it’d be the safest.
Could it be that Michael already knew that the safe was in his house and had brought someone to look for it?
This idea flashed across Christian’s mind in an instant.
However, the person over the phone replied, "No one has been in your house."
"No one?" Christian frowned fiercely when he heard those words.
Instantly, his grip on the phone tightened.
He took a deep breath and gritted out a name, "Zen..."
No wonder she kept agitating him yesterday.
The painting was just a facade.
Her motive was probably to return to look for the safe.
She had been with Christian for so many years, and knew his personality and what to do so that she could successfully return to his home.
"Zen, you’re actually working with Michael against me," Christian said as his veins popped from how tightly he was gripping the phone.
Zen’s betrayal caught Christian completely by surprise.
Although he was suspicious by nature and was suspicious of everyone, he had never once suspected Zen.
Maybe it was because she just came back yesterday, and Christian hadn’t had time to think about it.
"Mr. Lucas, is something wrong?" the person over the phone asked worriedly.
Before Christian could say anything, his assistant walked over to him.
Christian noticed the heavy look on the assistant’s face and hung up the phone.
"President, there’s a problem..." the assistant lowered his voice and looked around as if he was checking for anyone in the vicinity.
Seeing the assistant’s actions, Christian knew that what he was going to say was related to drug trafficking.
Christian gave his assistant a meaningful look, then turned and walked toward the office.
...
Upon entering the office, the assistant immediately closed the door.
Standing in front of Christian, he spoke respectfully and cautiously, "We just received news, and it seems like our shipment has been discovered."
"It seems?" Christian "As of the night before, our batch of goods began circulating into the country and started selling."
The assistant lowered his voice and said, "The day before yesterday, I personally met the people in Lake City and sold them a batch of goods. Initially, everything was fine and there were no problems. But since last night, when I contacted them to ask how the goods are selling, ultimately, I wasn’t able to reach them."
"If you couldn’t contact them last night, why are you only telling me now?" Christian hit the table with a heavy punch when he heard this, "You came back from Rheinsville City with me, so don’t you know that in our line of business, we can’t afford to make the smallest mistake?"
"I’m sorry, President, I..." the assistant explained anxiously. "Although I didn’t get in touch immediately last night, they called me back after a few minutes, saying that everything went well and that I needed to replenish the goods. I didn’t think too much of it at the time. I thought it might be because he was too busy to answer the phone for a few minutes. Then I-I went to prepare for the replenishment. I replenished the goods early this morning and then called, but the tone of the person who answered the phone was a little off. That’s why..."
"That’s why you suspected that something is wrong?" Christian closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Although he tried to suppress his emotions, he obviously failed. "If I had a gun right now, do you think you would still be alive?"
The assistant was so scared that he immediately knelt on the ground trembling and begged for mercy, "I’m sorry, President, I-I didn’t handle this well."
"Have you checked?" Christian must maintain his composure at this critical time.
If something really was to happen, he must prepare a plan to deal with it.
"It has been checked, and there will be results soon," the assistant stretched out his hand to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead and said with a trembling voice.
This time, it was indeed negligence on his part.
It was also because he and Christian came to Lake City and had been doing proper business for too long, so he had lacked the caution from before.
He would have never have made this mistake back in Rheinsville City.
Moreover, this was the first time that Lake City’s market had been opened, and the people connecting with them were not acquaintances, so it would be difficult to ensure that there were no accidents.
That was why Christian had been so reluctant to sell drugs in Lake City before.
Lake City was so thorough in their investigations that a little carelessness could bring them big trouble.
Indeed, the results were soon in.
The assistant’s cell phone rang immediately.
He looked at the phone display, immediately put it on speaker, crawled over on his knees, and placed the phone in front of Christian.
"Here’s what we found. Michael has been contacting the Interpol in private. They had barbeque together the day before at the night market." The person said over the phone, "It’s the captain of the Interpol, Evan Boyle. " "The captain of the Interpol?" Christian saw red when he heard those words.
He lifted his foot and ruthlessly kicked his assistant who was kneeling on the ground.
The assistant dared not say anything. He straightened himself from the ground silently and continued to kneel.
Given the big incident, the assistant could only let Christian vent his anger on him.
Still, he was relieved that he wasn’t in Rheinsville City right now, otherwise, he would’ve already been dead.
...
Christian pressed his hands on the table, closing his eyes and thinking carefully about this situation.
Previously, Michael did not even know anyone from the anti-drug team, nor did he know any captain.
So to say, Michael only knew about them afterward.
Colluding with the anti-drug team on purpose, the goal was clear. It was to get at him.
Also, Zen went into the room that he specifically told her not to enter.
If not for the message that the emergency alarm went off, Christian’s wishful thinking was that Zen only went in out of curiosity and accidentally came across the switch to the hidden compartment.
But now, with these two incidents happening at once, it was not a simple coincidence anymore.
Then, when did Zen join hands with Michael?
She initially wanted to commit suicide and leave Christian, so it must have not been then.
If it was, she would not have had seen the need to die.
She loved that child so much, but she did not even think of staying alive for the sake of the child.
This meant that it happened after Zen woke up while she was recuperating in the hospital.
Those few days, Christian was busy with the new plan for his company, as well as the drugs crossing the borders, thus not he did not have enough time and energy to care about Zen or check on Michael.
He only thought about how to handle the matters at hand, and to handle the drug business without getting exposed.
Now, it seemed that Michael had all these planned out without his knowledge.
Michael took the opportunity to work with the anti-drug team when Christian did not have much time or energy. He planned to ambush Christian when he was not prepared.
And in those few days, Christian also did not have much time to visit Zen at the hospital. Did Wendy frequently visit Zen at the hospital? He was also unsure.
But now the answer was crystal clear; she did.
If it was like this, then did it mean that Michael managed to convince Mr. Zavier?
Mr. Zavier kept pushing Christian for money although they already came to a consensus to give him 10 days to pay back after much negotiation.
Christian balled his fists, letting go slowly before he tightened his grip again.
It seemed like, from the beginning, Michael had already planned all of these.
Before Christian could think even further, he received a message that his emergency alarm went off.
It looked like Zen had really gone to look for the safe.
If the drugs were already seized, then the things in the safe definitely could not land in the hands of Michael and the anti-drug team.
Once they got their hands on it, Christian would be unable to disassociate himself from this situation.
Now, if the anti-drug team did not have solid evidence that Christian had direct relations with the drug dealers, he would still have a chance to prepare whatever he had in mind.
"Mobilize all of them, and make sure they are hidden well near the vicinity of my house. Wait for instructions to take action on my command!" Christian ordered at the assistant who was kneeling on the ground. The assistant immediately nodded his head as a sign of acknowledgment.
After which, Christian took his phone, quickly making his way out of the office.
While running, he took out his phone to call someone.
He had to prepare for the worst.
The call quickly went through, without missing a beat, Christian instructed, "Prepare yourself, we will proceed with the plan anytime now!"
The person on the other end of the line laughed, saying, "Finally we are going through with the plan. I have been waiting for this."
"Stop with your nonsense. I have given you the opportunity. Whether you can make use of it is up to you now." After Christian said his piece, he hung up and quickened his pace to make his way home.
He wanted to stop Zen before she found the safe.
At the same time, the person at the other end of the line took the eyebrow pencil, carefully filling up her eyebrows.
Once she was done, she hummed a tune, satisfied with her work, and smiled to herself.
In the reflection of the mirror was an image of Wendy.
