Unwanted Marriage: Honey, No More Divorce!
Chapter 568: More Important Person
"Jumped out of the car? Zen was pregnant?" Zen’s mother heard this, and her eyes protruded in disbelief, "When was she even pregnant? She didn’t inform us about this at all. In the past year, we didn’t get to see her, but she kept saying that she was busy working and didn’t have time to come home. Did she not come back because she was pregnant? She was afraid we could tell?"
Wendy nodded her head and said, "This was one of the reasons. Another reason was that this man kept controlling Zen."
"This man, is he Zen’s superior, Christian?" Zen’s father’s tone was suspicious but his gaze was firm and fixed.
That was because when Zen called home in the past, she mentioned this man several times. This was the only man that she had mentioned to her family.
Wendy could only nod in agreement. Wendy had initially not wanted to reveal who Christian was as she was afraid that Zen’s parents would want to seek revenge.
However, since Zen’s father had guessed it, Wendy decided not to hide the truth.
Seeing Wendy nod her head, Zen’s father’s eyes flashed in anger and hatred.
Wendy swiftly persuaded Zen’s father, "Uncle Tanner, please calm down. Initially I kept this news from you both because I was afraid you would be very worried. I had initially wanted to wait till Zen recovered before letting you both know so that you won’t worry too much."
"Then, why are you telling us this now?" asked Zen’s father.
"That is because..." Wendy took a deep breath and looked down at Zen. "The doctor told me this morning that if Zen does not wake up in the next three days, she would forever be in vegetative state.
Her body has already recovered but mentally she is not prepared to return to this world. The doctor also advised for us to share more happy memories with her so that we can trigger her desire to remain in the world.
I was thinking, since you both are Zen’s closest family, there would be a huge chance this can help her awaken."
"How can I believe that you’re speaking the truth?" Zen’s father was still logically thinking about this whole situation and was not blinded by anger.
"Uncle, I have known Zen for such a long time, I truly hope she can wake up and regain consciousness," Wendy said after taking a deep breath. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"Wendy, don’t blame me for being too harsh but all these years, I’m not too sure what is your relationship with Zen. However, I rarely hear Zen talk about you. I was thinking, if you guys are so close, she wouldn’t not mention you. When you girls were in university, she would always mention you in her phone calls."
Wendy and Zen’s relationship had indeed soured. That was because of Christian and Michael’s relationship.
"Uncle Tanner, there are some issues that I do not wish to reveal for now but since you have your suspicions, let me show you some news and videos."
With that, Wendy took out her phone and googled the news regarding Christian and Zen.
These news were on the headlines previously but Zen’s parents were not aware of them.
Wendy opened up the video of Christian forcing Zen back at the bus stop and placed her phone in front of Zen’s father. This video also showed Christian forcing and threatening Zen at gunpoint.
Zen’s mother also gathered around to view the video.
It was a short clip but both Zen’s parents were sobbing by the time the video ended.
"This Christian, he is a monster!" Zen’s mother wiped her tears and sobbed, "how can there be someone like him in this world?"
...
"Uncle Tanner, what I just said is true. You can believe me. These videos and news are all over the internet, you can easily search this up.
If you still don’t believe me, you can give a call to your other relatives. If you’re still worried that your relatives are also wrong, you can easily find a random stranger on the road to ask them if the news is true.
Regarding what you mentioned about why Zen did not talk about me in her phone calls these years, maybe you can wait till Zen is awake before asking her about it."
said Wendy.
Moreover, it was Zen who betrayed Wendy. Zen was now on the hospital bed and it was not necessary for Wendy to lament to her parents about her wrongdoings.
If Zen would wake up, she can let them know herself. If Zen didn’t wake up, at least her parent’s impression of her was still good. This was the last thing Wendy could do for Zen.
Zen’s father was a smart man and he had guessed most of the truth. He nodded his head and couldn’t help but retrace his steps. His tone turned solemn and old as he said, "I believe you."
Zen’s father knew that Wendy called them over and they were already here. Even if he didn’t believe her, what could they do?
It was true that Zen was lying here in a coma.
"Before you both came over, I had already shared memories with Zen but she didn’t have any reaction." Wendy sighed deeply. "You and Auntie should talk to her more often and repeat all the happy memories you have shared. You are her parents, she should listen to you both."
Zen’s parents nodded immediately. They had already understood most of what had happened and now, they had to talk to Zen.
Zen’s mother held her hand and while staring at her pale face, she sobbed, "Zen, you cannot leave us behind just for one man. We only have one daughter. Without you, how can your father and I live? Wendy had already told us to mention happy things, don’t talk about this anymore."
Zen’s father hurried over to Zen’s mother’s side and told her, "Zen, don’t you love the braised pork that Daddy makes? As long as you wake up, when you’re craving for the braised pork, Daddy will come over to Lake City and make it for you. You can have all the braised pork you like, okay?"
"Yes, yes, yes, you also love Mummy’s pork stew noodles. I will make it for you daily.
Mummy won’t leave your side. I will stay in Lake City with you. We will support you in whatever you want to do."
Zen’s mother added, "I still remember when you were young, you really loved your cousins’ dolls. You even cried so much and made a fuss in order to snatch the doll.
When you wake up, I will buy all the dolls in the world for you.
There is only one thing that mummy is unable to fulfill, which is to give you an older brother. For this, daddy and mummy are unable to help you. When you were young, you were bullied outside and always blamed us for not giving you an older brother.
You said that others who had older brothers would be protected and you were so envious of them..."
Hearing Zen’s parents trying so hard to wake her up, Wendy’s eyes welled up again.
Staring at the bodyguards that had escorted them over, Wendy walked over and said softly, "You guys haven’t eaten right?"
The bodyguard shook his head and said, "Nope, Uncle and Auntie kept hurrying us."
"Go and pack some food to bring over," said Wendy.
They were already old, they had to eat some food.
...
Wendy had been staying by their side in the hospital.
However, Zen did not seem to have any signs of waking up even until late at night.
Mrs. Tanner’s eyes welled up as she said softly, "Wendy, go home and take a rest first. We can take care of her here tonight. I am already very grateful that you have been taking care of Zen for days."
Wendy nodded and said, "Uncle, Auntie, is there anything that you want to eat? I will bring them for you tomorrow morning."
In fact, there was nothing much that Wendy could do even if she stayed behind.
Moreover, her house was so near to the hospital. She could come over early in the morning the next day too.
In addition, she was pregnant right now. Michael had been urging her to go home a few moments ago.
"It’s okay. We want to keep Zen company for a little longer," Mrs. Tanner said.
Wendy sighed, "Well, take care of yourself too. Just give me a call if you need anything, okay?"
Mrs. Tanner nodded her head without saying anything further.
Wendy was so worried that she took a glance at both Mr. and Mrs. Tanner before she turned around and left the ward.
As soon as she stepped out of the ward, she saw Michael waiting for her outside.
"Why are you here?" Wendy was a little surprised to see him outside the ward.
"I have been calling you just now, but you are still not home yet," Michael said as he pointed at his watch. "It is already eleven o’clock in the evening now. I am so afraid that you do not intend to go home tonight."
"I have already told you that I will be home," Wendy stepped forth and grabbed Michael’s arm. Wendy sounded a little upset.
Michael frowned a little as he asked, "Does her condition look bad?"
"It seems that both Mr. and Mrs. Tanner were unable to wake Zen up," Wendy said worriedly. "I am afraid that we really have to bid her goodbye forever this time."
"Don’t give up yet. It is only the first day today. We still have time to wake her up," Michael comforted Wendy.
"Alright then," Wendy nodded.
...
On the second day, Wendy asked Zess to prepare a few dishes before she went to the hospital to visit Zen.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Tanner looked so pale and drawn after one restless night.
They were already rather old. However, in just one night, they seemed to turn older now.
Wendy placed the food on the table and opened the thermos. She then handed them to the elders and said, "Uncle, Auntie, please eat something first."
"We have no appetite," Mrs. Tanner said as she waved her hand.
"You still have to eat something even though you have no appetite. Otherwise, both of you will collapse after Zen comes around," Wendy said as she put the food on Mr.
Tanner and Mrs. Tanner’s hands.
After heeding Wendy’s advice, both of them tried to eat some of the food.
Wendy knew that they had lost their appetite, so she did not force them any further.
She put the food back to the thermos so that when they felt hungry, the food would still be warm for them to eat.
Unfortunately, time flew so fast that three days had passed.
On the third day, Zen was still lying on the sickbed in the ward with wires and the nasal breathing tube connected to her.
Her parents’ hair turned grey in just a few days too.
Even her father’s back tended to hunch forward more.
When the doctor saw Zen’s condition while he came into the ward, he just shook his head without saying anything further.
"Is there really nothing else that you can do?" Mrs. Tanner asked as she cried.
"As her parents, you are still unable to evoke her yearning for this world. Therefore, the chances are slim for her to wake up again," the doctor sighed. "Unless you can find someone more important in her life to evoke her to live again."
"More important person?" Wendy mumbled as she lowered her head.
As a matter of fact, it did come across her mind that if Zen’s parents were unable to wake her up, she would need to look for him instead.
To this point, there was really no other way for her now.
She had no choice but to try this last resort in such a desperate situation.
