Unwanted Marriage: Honey, No More Divorce!
Chapter 565: Unconscious For So Long
Recently Wendy was still in the hospital with Zess at that time.
She was sitting on the chair. The doctor looked at the pregnancy examination result report and said with a smile," According to the result report, the baby is developing very well, and your health is also getting much better."
Michael did not allow her to do anything these days, and he did not let her worry about anything.
He knew that she did not like others to keep a secret from her, so he talked to her about work every day, especially work related to Christian.
Even though it was not easy to deal with Christain since she could clearly know the progress, Wendy stopped overthinking.
Her appetite and sleeping quality both improved a lot than before.
Sometimes when she felt bored, she would continue her previous design.
She was wondering that her Lewis series design could be officially put into production after the baby was born.
"Thank you." Wendy looked down happily and touched her belly, trying to feel the baby in her womb.
Although her belly was still flat, Wendy was so happy to feel that a little baby was growing up in her womb gradually.
When she was pregnant with Jake and Leah, nobody cared or was concerned about her.
Now when she was pregnant again, it seemed that the world was trying to compensate her.
After they came out of the doctor’s office, Zess followed Wendy with a smile and said," There will be a new member in the family in several months. Oh yes, Wendy, do you wish this baby to be a boy or a girl?"
"I have not thought about that. Whether it is a boy or a girl, either is good." Wendy replied smilingly.
"That’s right. You already have a son and a daughter now." Zess continued," Then did Mr. Lucas say if he wished for a boy or a girl?"
"Michael..." Wendy said, " He should have similar thoughts as mine. But I feel that he might prefer a girl. After all, his relationship with Jake has not been very good even until now. But he likes Leah very much."
Wendy slightly sighed when she talked about this topic," Jake is just too smart. He has his own thoughts and opinions. His relationship with Michael will probably get better as time passes by."
Zess nodded and comforted Wendy, "It will definitely get better. Now their relationship is actually much better than before."
Wendy did not leave the hospital immediately after the pregnancy examination.
She decided to visit Zen Tanner.
Zen had been in hospital for a while.
Wendy would come to visit her whenever she was free.
Zen had been transferred from the intensive care unit to the general ward. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
When Wendy reached for the door of Zen’s ward, her phone rang.
Wendy was afraid that answering the phone call would bother Zen, so she stepped back and walked away before she picked up the phone.
The phone call was from Zen’s attending physician.
"Hello, Mrs. Lucas." The doctor greeted her first when she picked up the phone.
"Hello."
"I have to tell you that Miss Tanner is not well recently."
Hearing what the doctor said, Wendy frowned at once.
The "Miss Tanner" that the doctor referred to was Zen Tanner, of course.
"I am at the hospital. Are you in the office? I can come to you," said Wendy.
"You are at the hospital! That is great. I am at the office. Please come to my office now," said the doctor.
Wendy immediately went to the doctor’s office as soon as she hanged up the phone.Seeing Wendy come, the doctor stood up and poured her a cup of warm water. The doctor put the cup of water in front of Wendy and sat on the chair across from her.
...
"Previously, didn’t you say that Zen is no longer in a critical state?" Precisely because of this, we transferred her from the Intensive Care Unit to the General Hospital Ward." Wendy anxiously asked, "Why is her condition not improving now?"
"Let me explain, Mrs. Lucas. Her body is no longer in the critical stage. We’ve done our best to rescue Ms. Tanner. However, she still remains unconscious today even though her body is recovering. This is also very dangerous. In medicine, we call this..."
The doctor paused momentarily before saying in a heavy tone, "vegetative state."
"Vegetative state?" Wendy couldn’t believe her ears.
Zen was such a good person, how can she just slip into such a state?
"You’re saying that Zen is already in a vegetative stage? Or are you saying that there is this possibility of it happening?" Wendy anxiously and nervously asked.
These two situations were very different.
As long as she was not in a vegetative state yet, there was still a chance. Wendy will find all means to get her the best medical care to recover.
"For now, she isn’t in a vegetative state yet. However, we’ve tried many medically approved ways to wake her from her coma but she is still unconscious." The doctor helplessly confessed. "It is Ms. Tanner herself who is reluctant to wake up. Also, if she doesn’t wake up in the next three days, medically, we have to declare her as in a vegetative state. If it is due to uncontrollable external factors that have resulted in her slipping into a coma, there are still several methods to help her recover.
However, for Ms. Tanner’s case, once she becomes in a vegetative state, it is equivalent to her not being able to wake up."
Hearing the doctor’s words, Wendy turned solemn and serious.
Even though she knew that if Zen continues to be unconscious, it will pose a seriously grave issue. However, when she heard these words from the doctor, she still felt terribly upset and couldn’t believe them.
Zen was not even thirty years old yet. She was still so young.
"Are there any other solutions?" Wendy asked. "No matter what it is, as long as there is a chance for Zen to wake up, please tell us. Maybe another hospital, or another doctor who specializes in this? There may still be another chance?
"Mrs. Lucas, we’ve tried every method medically approved. We were personally told by Mr. Lucas to do our best for Ms. Tanner, and we have done so. In terms of a doctor who specializes in this, I am one of them. I can’t say I’m the best but we had already discussed Ms. Tanner’s case with other specialists all over the world. Indeed, there is no other medically approved way or medicine that can wake Ms. Tanner up."
The doctor sighed helplessly and said in a sorry tone.
"Is there really no other solution?" Wendy felt her hands slipping from the table to her sides.
Even though Zen had betrayed her before, she had already faced the consequences.
She even lost her own child. Wendy just can’t stand watching Zen die in front of her.
"There is actually another way, but Mrs. Lucas, please don’t put too much hope into this as well," said the doctor.
"Tell me." Wendy’s eyes lighted up.
No matter what, having another method is always good.
"Maybe, you can let those who are close and important to Ms. Tanner accompany her and talk to her. In Ms. Tanner’s case, she herself is reluctant to regain consciousness. She doesn’t want to face the real world. I’m not sure what had happened to make her have such thoughts but if those close to her speak to her more about the beautiful things in life, maybe, she might be willing to wake up," advised the doctor.
...
"Close and important people to her... " Wendy heard this and immediately thought of Christian.
Zen loved Christian so much, even though in the end her love became despair.
However, it may just be because of him that Zen wanted to escape this world and reality.
"Like Ms. Tanner’s parents, partner, or close friends, etc. As long as they had a happy memory together, it may be able to persuade her into having hope in this world, giving her a chance to regain consciousness." The doctor placed both hands on the table and asked, "Actually there has been something I wanted to check with your, Mrs. Lucas."
"Hmm, what is it?" Wendy nodded.
"Ms. Tanner has been unconscious for so long but it doesn’t seem like her family actually visited her?" The doctor tugged his spectacles up and said, "If Mrs. Lucas is able to contact her family, it would be good to have them visit and talk to her."
Zen’s family indeed did not visit her. It’s not because her family didn’t treat her well or didn’t care about her. But because her family is still not aware of what has happened to her.
Because of Christian, Wendy had made Michael secretly task bodyguards to protect Zen’s family. And in doing so, also prevented the news of what’s happened to Zen from slipping out.
She was worried that once her family knew about it and come to Lake City, they would be controlled by Christian.
Hence, after Zen ended up like this, Wendy had used Zen’s phone to inform Zen’s parents that Zen would be overseas for business and for them not to contact her unless necessary. In order not to make them suspicious, Wendy had actually sent them messages every few days as Zen.
Even though what had happened to Zen and Christian was all over the news, Zen’s parents were already in their seventies and did not follow the entertainment news.
Also, all of her other relatives were already informed by Michael not to spread the news to her parents. Hence, till today, her parents did not suspect anything was amiss. Maybe they suspected but without any evidence, they could only wait at home worriedly.
However, now, it was inevitable that they inform her parents. Maybe, her parents could wake her up?
"I’ll contact her parents," Wendy said and took a deep breath.
"That’s great." The doctor nodded his head and agreed.
"I’ll visit Zen first." Wendy stood up to leave.
The doctor stood up too and walked her to the door of the office, "Okay, sure."
Once they were out of the office, Wendy felt her heart turning heavy and sad. She reached into her purse to take out her phone and her hands trembled while doing so.
Taking a deep breath, Wendy walked over to a quiet corner in the hospital and dialed Zen’s home number on her phone. The call rang and Wendy felt her heart pounding as she anxiously waited.
Finally, the call connected successfully.
"Hello, may I know who this is?" Zen’s mother asked on the other end of the line.
"This is Wendy." Wendy calmly replied.
Hearing Wendy’s name, Zen’s mother happily said, "Wendy, it’s you. When are you free to visit us? I’ll make some of your favorite dishes."
In the past, during the summer holidays when they were in university, Wendy would go to Zen’s place to hang out often.
Hence, Zen’s mother was pretty familiar with Wendy.
Also, being her daughter’s friend, Zen’s mother liked Wendy a lot.
"Auntie..." Wendy couldn’t help herself and her voice trembled and turned sad.
