Unwanted Marriage: Honey, No More Divorce!
Chapter 544: You’re Too Late
"Has everything gone according to plan?" Wendy asked Michael.
Michael nodded his head. He told her, "Christian has most likely already heard the news. I’ve already sent people to monitor Lake City’s airport. However, I’m guessing that Christian will have Clement leave from his private jet pad. I’ve sent most of my people to Christian’s private airport. Christian probably knows I’m currently at the hospital. I’ll have to leave in a moment."
"Where are the two children?" Wendy was still concerned over Jake and Leah’s safety.
"Don’t worry. I’ve already sent people to pick them up." Michael patted Wendy’s shoulder, saying, "You’ve just had an accident. Christian won’t try kidnapping the children anymore."
Just as Wendy was getting ready to say something, Michael’s phone rang. It was a call from Mr. York. Michael immediately picked up the phone call.
"Mr. Lucas, Clement has already revealed his whereabouts. He’s been staying in one of the mansions in the east suburbs. We didn’t know that was part of Christian’s real estate, so we never bothered checking that area." Mr. York’s voice carried across the phone receiver.
"He must be anxious to leave. Check and see if his route leads to Christian’s personal airport, then call me back." Michael told him, "I’ll be over there immediately."
After he hung up the phone, Michael turned to speak with Wendy, "Clement has revealed his location. I’m going to drive over there now. You can stay with Zess at the hospital to avoid being detected by Christian’s men when you leave."
Wendy nodded her head in agreement.
"I’ll be back soon." Michael hugged Wendy and kissed her on the forehead. When he released Wendy from his embrace, he turned around to leave.
Watching Michael leave, Wendy bit her lip and called to him, "Michael..." Michael stopped in his tracks. He looked back at Wendy, gently asking, "What’s wrong?"
"I..." Wendy took a deep breath and gathered up all her courage to speak, "I’ll go with you."
"You want to go too?" Michael looked worriedly at Wendy. If the circumstances were different, it would have been fine. But this matter would cause Wendy additional trauma. If she saw Clement again, she would probably have an emotional breakdown.
She took another deep breath before speaking again, "I thought that I should be braver. If I never face Clement directly, he’ll always remain a thorn in my heart."
She could either keep running away from her fears, or she could face them. As long as she could overcome this hardship, she wouldn’t have to be afraid anymore.
Otherwise, even if Clement died, Wendy would not be able to heal from the trauma he had caused.
"I was thinking that you would be there to protect me, right?" Wendy had absolute confidence in Michael. Even though her eyes held traces of fear, but they also showed her courage.
Michael understood what Wendy was saying. "Wendy, are you sure you want to do this?" Michael worriedly said, "If you see him again, you might end up getting hurt a second time."
"If a festering wound never heals, it’ll just keep rotting away. It’s better to grit your teeth and tear off the scar tissue. If you’re able to endure the pain, there’s always the possibility that the wound will heal anew. Isn’t that right?" Wendy told him.
"It seems like you’re still the same confident and courageous Wendy." Michael felt mixed feelings of pity and happiness after listening to Wendy’s speech. He knew that Wendy was right. He also believed that Wendy was a strong person.
...
Michael and Wendy left the hospital together. Zess remained in the private room.
They left secretly, without attracting anybody’s notice. At least, they didn’t attract the attention of Christian’s people.
When they got into the car, Michael fastened Wendy’s seatbelt for her. Mr. York called Michael again.
Michael picked up the call, "Sir, I guessed correctly. Clement is currently going in the direction of Christian’s private airport."
"Send me the location. I’ll be on my way." Michael ordered him.
The location was quickly sent to Michael. He followed the navigation, quickly arriving at Christian’s private airport. It was about the same distance from the hospital to the airport as it was from the suburbs. He needed to arrive at the airport before Clement. Michael told Wendy, "Wendy, I need to drive above the speed limit. Sit tight."
"Okay." Wendy nodded her head in agreement.
A route that normally took half an hour only took Michael twenty minutes to drive.
They arrived at the airport before Clement without any incident. Mr. York had already assembled many of the security guards in the area. They were waiting for Clement to arrive.
Christian was also at the airport. He kept looking at his watch, anxiously pacing back and forth. As long as Clement was still in Lake City, Christian could not stop worrying. He turned to look at the front entrance several times. He was waiting to see Clement’s figure appear. Sadly, Clement wasn’t the first one who appeared; it was Michael.
When Christian noticed the vehicle parked on the side, then he saw that it was Michael sitting behind the wheel, his eyes widened in surprise. He unconsciously turned away when his eyes met Michael’s gaze, almost as if he didn’t want Michael to see him.
"Does my dearest brother really want to see me so badly?" Michael said purposefully. From the corner of his eye, he had noticed Christian quickly turn his back to him.
There was nowhere for Christian to hide since he had been discovered. He turned around, laughing, "Brother, why have you suddenly appeared at my private lot?"
"Can’t it be because I knew you were here and I just wanted to see you?" Michael also smiled.
"By the way, did you know that Wendy got into an accident?" Christian sensed something suspicious, but he decided to act along, "It seems like she had a miscarriage. She lost a lot of blood. I believe she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Since you love her so much, why aren’t you at the hospital?"
"How do you know about something even I don’t know about?" Michael crossed his hands over his chest.
The next moment, he saw a person sitting in the passenger seat of the car. The person’s entire body was drenched in blood.
"Wendy... you... you..." Christian pointed his finger at Wendy. His eyes kept wandering over her blood-stained body.
Wendy hadn’t had time to change her clothes after leaving the hospital. She was still wearing her bloodied clothes.
"Is this some sort of trap you’ve designed?" Christian suddenly understood what was happening. He immediately took out his phone to give Clement a call. Unfortunately, as soon as Christian whipped out his phone, a security guard ran out from behind Michael to restrain him.
"This is indeed a trap we’ve laid out for you. Sadly, you’ve realized it a little too late." Michael walked up to Christian. He forcefully pulled the phone from Christian’s hand.
Then, Michael carelessly flung the phone to the ground. It thumped when it hit the pavement.
Christian’s eyes stared helplessly at his phone, now far out of his reach.
Unconsciously, he clenched his hands into fists, but his hands were being restrained by the bodyguard. Christian couldn’t even do this one simple gesture.
...
Michael looked around. He then sneered mockingly. "It seems like your bodyguards aren’t that skilled.
"I saw a dozen of them standing outside when I was on my way here. But they were all taken down by my men.
"Do you have any more bodyguards hiding somewhere? You should call them out immediately. Otherwise, you might not have a chance to do so later."
Christian wanted to send Clement away quietly. So there weren’t many bodyguards with him at the airport. But he didn’t expect to be stabbed in the back by Michael.
Currently, the number of Christian’s bodyguards weren’t even one-tenth of Michael’s bodyguards. Once Clement arrived, he would definitely fall into Michael’s trap.
"My bodyguards are on their way. They will be arriving any second now. So what if you managed to trick me? Your plan will still not succeed!" Christian was panicking.
However, he continued putting up a strong front.
"Really?" Michael smiled. "I will give you a few more minutes then. If Clement were to arrive before your bodyguards, don’t blame me for not giving you a chance."
"Michael, do you really think Clement is going to show up?" Christian deliberately tried to confuse Michael as he laughed out loud. "Do you really think that you can get him so easily? Let me tell you something. He has left the airport and is currently on the plane. You will never get him."
As soon as Christian finished his sentence, Mr. York walked towards Michael and said, "Clement is here. He has been captured by our men."
"What?" Michael deliberately asked loudly so that Mr. York would repeat what he said.
Mr. York immediately understood what Michael’s intention. He then repeated what he just said loudly. "Clement is here. He has been captured by our men."
Upon hearing this, Christian started to tremble with rage. He then whispered to himself through gritted teeth. "Why did Clement arrive so soon!"
He had delivered himself right into Michael’s trap. Michael was pleased with Christian’s reaction.
"Since your bodyguards are late, I won’t be waiting anymore." Michael then took Wendy’s hand as he ordered Mr. York. "Take them away."
Michael a lot of effort to capture Clement just so that he could avenge Wendy. Now that he had finally captured him, he must make Clement pay for what he did.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be Michael Lucas!
"Michael! You can’t take Clement away!" Christian shouted. "Just tell me what you want! We can talk about it if you let him go!"
If Clement was caught, it would be hard for him to carry out Christian’s future plans.
Michael ignored Christian. He got into a car with Wendy.
However, this time, Mr. York was the one driving. Wendy and Michael were sitting in the backseat.
Clement was brought to one of Michael’s warehouses. When their car was parked in front of the warehouse, Michael noticed that Wendy wasn’t looking so good.
He then held Wendy’s hand and said softly, "Wait for me in the car. I will be back as soon as I’m done."
"No, I want to go with you," Wendy took a deep breath as she said with determination. "I can do it."
"Alright, let’s go together." Michael held Wendy’s hand tightly as they got out of the car together. He knew that Wendy wasn’t someone who would run away from her problems. He wished that Wendy could really walk out of her trauma after he had taken such extreme measures.
