Chapter 289 Assassination (2)
Leaning on her forehead for a while, she took a moment to catch her breath, "It’s nothing, I probably caught a cold from the breeze the day before yesterday, ate too much watermelon. I’ll be fine in a couple of days, there’s no need to make a fuss."
"But, Princess, it has already been two days and you are not getting better, it’s getting worse," Lan Lengyun said anxiously at her side, wishing she could grow several legs and run to tell the Prince. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"It’s fine, the Prince is busy these days, don’t tell him. I know my own body, if there is no improvement soon, then it won’t be too late to tell him." After calming down and ensuring there was no serious harm, she slowly got up, opened the door to the study, and before leaving the house, she didn’t forget to instruct.
"Yes, Princess." Seeing that Sister Mei was serving by the Princess’s side, she too turned and left the residence from the back yard, quietly heading to the Imperial Palace.
The two exited the residence, took the mansion’s carriage, and went straight out of the Capital City to the foot of the Bodhi Temple’s mountain. There was a tea garden there, and the last time they went to the Bodhi Temple to offer incense, she took a glance and thought the tea garden was not bad—she just didn’t know if they would be willing to sell her some tea seedlings.
Lan Lengyun wandered back and forth outside the Palace, debating whether to go in or not, anxious about the Princess’s health on one hand and afraid of making her angry on the other, stuck in a dilemma when Xuan Yue came out from the Palace gate.
"Why aren’t you attending to the Princess properly? What are you wandering around here for?" Xuan Yue from afar saw Lan Lengyun pacing back and forth, then excused himself with Huang Yi to come out and see what was going on.
Seeing it was Xuan Yue, Lan Lengyun steeled herself, ready to tell the Prince the truth, "Is the Prince inside?"
Xuan Yue furrowed his brows and glanced at Lan Lengyun, who usually was quite clever, now looked rather foolish today. As the Prince’s personal guard, of course wherever the Prince went, he followed, "The Prince is right ahead, speaking with Minister Xu. Is the Princess looking for the Prince?"
Lan Lengyun followed Xuan Yue’s gaze and saw the Prince speaking with a middle-aged man of portly stature. Just as she was about to approach, Xuan Yue stopped her.
"Hey, Lan Lengyun, what are you doing? The Imperial Palace is not a place for you to intrude upon," he said.
"I, this servant, I just panicked and forgot for a moment," Lan Lengyun said, chastised, awkwardly twisting the handkerchief in her hands, her face flushing.
"As one of the four major maids, how can you lose your composure! Is this what I usually teach you?"
"Yes, this servant will remember," she replied, ashamedly lowering her head and taking the reprimand from her senior.
Xuan Yue scanned Lan Lengyun with displeasure, "Speak, what is so urgent?"
"Quickly tell the Prince, the Princess has been ill these past few days, she hasn’t eaten or drunk anything in two days, and a few times she nearly fainted," Lan Lengyun said hurriedly.
Upon hearing this, Xuan Yue’s expression changed instantly, his fingers trembling as he pointed at Lan Lengyun, "Why didn’t you say so sooner, honestly!" He then lifted his robe and vanished on the spot.
Lan Lengyun pouted, "If you hadn’t interrupted, I would have said it earlier."
Just as she was about to turn back to the house, a strong gust of wind blew from behind. When she opened her eyes, she saw her own Prince with a dark expression staring at her.
"Prince, my Prince," she said nervously, bowing down and staring at her own shoes, the handkerchief in her hand now twisted beyond recognition.
"What happened to the Princess?" he asked with a stern tone, his eyes fixed on Lan Lengyun in front of him.
"The Princess is sick, she looks extremely pale, and whatever she eats, she vomits. It’s been like this for two days and, moreover, she has nearly fainted several times," Lan Lengyun spoke, each word causing her to feel colder, and by the time she finished, the temperature around her seemed to drop to freezing, no sense of the summer heat lingered. Resigned, she closed her eyes, braced for the worst to come.
After waiting in silence for a while and noticing no movement, she looked up to find that the person was already gone. Nearly collapsing from the shock, she struggled to walk back to the mansion.
