"As long as I like it, that’s good enough. Come on, eat up," he coaxed Feng Xuxu like one would a child.

Feng Xuxu gave a sideways glance, wondering how that cold and aloof man had changed so much. Speechlessly, she sat at the dining table and began devouring the food in her bowl.

"What’s the rush? No one’s competing with you. Have some vegetables." He picked up a piece of eggplant and placed it in Feng Xuxu’s bowl.

As she ate the eggplant from her bowl, she lifted her eyes to look at the silly man gazing at her and also picked up a piece of braised fish, putting it into his bowl. "What are you stupidly staring at? Hurry up and eat, the food is getting cold," she said, her tone a mix of irritation, coyness, and helplessness.

Dugu Chen happily picked up his bowl and began enjoying the food. When he finished his vegetables, he extended his bowl towards Feng Xuxu, his eyes pitifully seeking her attention.

Blinking, she glanced at her husband’s bowl, then looked up at the sky in exasperation before relentfully picking up a chopstick-full of greens and placing it in his bowl. The small bowl instantly became a little mountain, and then she turned to her husband with a smile, "Dear, eating more vegetables is good for your health, you can’t always eat meat. Understand? Be good, eat it all up."

Dugu Chen looked at the vegetables in his bowl, and his cool expression instantly turned greener than the veggies. He glared at them fiercely before glancing at his wife, who was happily eating away. Then he picked up his chopsticks and stabbed the vegetables in his bowl with force before finally struggling to swallow the food.

The meal ended with her in good spirits and him feeling miserable.

"My dear, I’m going to be quite busy lately. Envoys from the other two countries will be arriving one after the other. I need to protect them and be vigilant against them, so I may have less time to spend with you," he said apologetically to the person in his arms. However, there was nothing he could do; his older brother was at stake, and only after his brother ascended to the throne would he truly be able to relax.

"Mhm, you do your thing, no need to keep me company." Her small hand caressed his somewhat haggard face with sympathy.

She pulled her hand from his face, holding it in his palm, while his other arm held Feng Xuxu tightly. The two of them silently enjoyed the afternoon sun.

That night, a shadow flitted by and immediately vanished into the darkness.

The shadow swiftly made its way toward a forest outside the city, the wind whistling past its ears. In no time, it reached the dense woodland.

The pitch-black night made the moon seem as if it sensed the uneasy atmosphere and quietly hid behind the clouds, making the forest even more eerie.

The figure in black landed lightly, without a sound, and if it weren’t for the eyes scanning back and forth, one would think it was as quiet and still as a dead person.

"Heh heh heh, I didn’t expect you to be so punctual," a deep, magnetic voice spoke up. A figure slowly emerged from behind a tree, looking at the other with disdain.

"I’m always like this," said the black-clothed person, slanting her eyes at the other without taking his mockery seriously, as if she hadn’t seen it.

"You know how skilled the Demon King is. The Silver you’re offering isn’t enough," said the masked face, sneering at the newcomer with a chilling gleam in its eyes.

"Demon Lord, don’t be unreasonable. A hundred thousand taels of Gold, and you still find it too little?" The newcomer was angry that the Demon Lord had asked for more money, it was already the most she could think of, so she accused the Demon Lord resentfully.

"Humph, what of it? What if I told the Demon King that you’re offering a hundred thousand taels of Gold for his head? What do you think would happen? Ha ha ha ha," the low voice continued, followed by a scornful laugh aimed at the person in black.

"You—don’t get too smug. So, how much more do you want?" the person in black ground her teeth and glared at the Demon Lord, her lips a taut line hidden behind her mask.
