Chapter 283: Return Visit (1)
The carriage slowly came to a stop at the main entrance of the Xuanyuan Mansion. As soon as it steadied, Feng Xuxu couldn’t wait to lift the carriage’s curtain and leaped down.
"My lady, be careful," came a tender, indulgent voice from inside the carriage, who also quickly alighted afterwards.
When Xuanyuan Zhen and the others saw the Prince and princess step down from the carriage, he kneeled and bowed, "Commoner Xuanyuan Zhen pays his respects to the Enchanting Prince and his princess, wishing Their Graces peace."
Feng Xuxu circled around the carriage, seeing her uncle and brother among those who knelt down, she pouted and went forward to help her uncle and aunt up.
"Uncle, what are you doing? Even though I am a princess, I’m still your niece."
Xuanyuan Zhen, helped to his feet, looked at the coquettish Feng Xuxu with a chuckle, "Princess, etiquette must not be neglected."
Catching a glimpse of the Prince, he immediately fist-bowed and said, "Enchanting Prince."
Dugu Chen, seeing his wife giving him a displeased look, touched his nose awkwardly, "Dispense with the formalities."
"Thank you, Prince."
Upon entering the hall and after Dugu Chen and Feng Xuxu had taken their seats at the head, those seated below then took their seats.
After seating themselves, seeing her aunt a bit nervous, Feng Xuxu smiled with pursed lips, "Chen, you talk. I’ll take my aunt to Songcui Garden." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Alright." He smiled softly, like a gentle spring breeze, looking toward Feng Xuxu.
Jueqing twitched his mouth and blinked hard, finding it hard to believe that this man in front of him was the same cold and ruthless, unrecognizing-of-kin figure from before; he had already become accustomed to it.
Feng Xuxu and her aunt arrived at Songcui Garden and sat down in the pavilion, settling comfortably.
"Xuxu, is the Enchanting Prince treating you well?" Her aunt’s eyes swept over her, and only upon seeing that she was intact did she feel relieved. When departing, she had heard her son speak of how well Dugu Chen treated Feng Xuxu, but every time her aunt saw Dugu Chen’s cold face, she couldn’t help but worry.
"Auntie, rest assured. Chen is very good to me." Except for the nightly exertions, everything else was fine.
Her aunt’s eyes smiled, "That’s good to hear. However, you should still try to have a child as soon as possible to solidify your position as a princess."
Upon hearing this, Feng Xuxu’s heart fluttered, and she frowned slightly, wondering how she could be expected to have a baby at such a young age.
"Auntie, there’s no hurry. I’m still young and not fully matured yet. Waiting another three or four years won’t be too late," she replied.
Her aunt, from the Liao Family, gave Feng Xuxu a discerning look up and down, shaking her head disapprovingly, "Where are you not fully developed? You seem even more mature than other girls your age. You should have a child quickly to cement your position as a princess." Her concern was genuine, as it was rare for a prince not to have concubines, and she worried for Feng Xuxu.
Feng Xuxu rolled her eyes inwardly, speechless. Was her position to be secured only by bearing a child? "Let nature take its course, auntie," she suggested.
"Perhaps you’re right," Her aunt, Mrs. Liao, reconsidered, thinking that if a man wanted to change his heart, no matter how you tried to retain him, it couldn’t be done, unlike her own husband, who had always been consistent—such men were rare these days.
"Xuxu, it’s been some time since we’ve come out, and after discussing it with your uncle, we’re planning to head back in a few days," she informed.
Feng Xuxu was surprised, "Why not stay for a few more days? Is there some issue in the clan?" They had only been there for a few days; why the rush to go back? Was it because of the Holy Maiden’s matter?
Her aunt smiled faintly in response, "There’s nothing wrong with the clan. Regarding the Holy Maiden affair, we received news yesterday that your grandfather is very supportive of you; despite your marriage, you are still part of the Xuanyuan Clan."
"If that’s the case, why the hurry to return?" Feng Xuxu was even more puzzled if there was no particular issue.
"With Jueqing not at the fortress, and your father getting on in years, someone should return to take care of things," she explained, smiling lightly and slowly savoring the tea from her cup.
