Unlimited estates for rural beauty
Chapter 273: The Grand Wedding (3)
"Miss, the feast has started," Zhu Lengqing bent down to inform her young lady with a respectful bow.
"Then let’s go and try the freshly brewed Pear Blossom Drunk," she seized the opportunity to promote her own Pear Blossom Drunk.
"Alright then, we won’t stand on ceremony, today we won’t return unless we’re drunk," Bai Rui chuckled.
"There will be plenty of wine."
The group burst into laughter as they headed towards the front courtyard. The feast continued until the You Time at night before winding down. Once everyone had left, Feng Xuxu collapsed from exhaustion. She took a bath when she got back to her room and quickly slipped into bed, soon drifting off to meet the mythic Lord Zhou in her dreams.
On the tenth day of the sixth lunar month, early in the morning while Feng Xuxu was still drowsy, someone pulled her out of bed.
She opened her sleepy eyes and looked outside; it seemed as though she hadn’t even slept for one hour. Whining to her aunt, she said, "Aunt, let me sleep a bit longer, no, just a little bit longer, just a little bit." Saying so, her body went limp and she lay back down.
"No, you can’t. Today is your big wedding day, hurry up, you need to get up now," Aunt Liao of the Liao Family, simultaneously tugging at Feng Xuxu and patting her face.
Feng Xuxu waved away the hand patting her face and turned over to go back to sleep.
Seeing this, Aunt Liao ordered the maids and servant girls to start undressing Feng Xuxu, lifting her into a bathing tub, and thoroughly washed her from head to toe three times before finally letting her go.
Then they began putting on bright red undergarments for her. Feng Xuxu was still half asleep until she sat down in front of the Bronze Mirror. The joyful matron of honor picked up the thin, multicolored veil cord behind her and started to unveil Feng Xuxu’s face.
"Ah..." Feng Xuxu abruptly stood up, rubbing her left cheek. She had been groggy just a moment ago, but now she was completely and utterly awake.
"What are you doing?" Feng Xuxu frowned, staring at the festively dressed matron and asked unhappily.
"Xuxu, this is the matron of honor, quickly sit down. She is unveiling your face," she pressed Feng Xuxu back onto the stool.
"Matron of honor, don’t mind her. Please continue with your work quickly; we’re running out of time," she turned to instruct the matron of honor.
"Wait, Aunt, can I not have my face unveiled? It really hurts," Feng Xuxu looked fearfully at the thread in the matron’s hand and turned to her aunt.
"You can’t. It will be over quickly if you just endure it a bit," Aunt Liao gave an affirmative look to the matron of honor, who boldly stepped forward and continued with the unveiling.
Feng Xuxu closed her eyes tightly and furrowed her brows. It felt like she was plucking hair, cough cough, sweat hair, from her face. After enduring a quarter of an hour, the unveiling was finally finished.
The makeup application commenced, and Feng Xuxu insisted on doing it herself. Unable to dissuade her, Aunt Liao relented. Feng Xuxu, facing the Bronze Mirror, began applying the bridal makeup on her own; in just a quarter of an hour, a beautiful bridal look was completed.
Aunt Liao watched intently, captivated by the rosy cheeks, the cherry lips, and the delicately drawn willow eyebrows which alluded to a seductive charm. The clear, large eyes were exceptionally bright and lovely.
"Beautiful, truly beautiful," Aunt Liao exclaimed sincerely.
"Madam, the bridal sedan chair has already set off from the Prince Mei Residence. It should arrive in less than half an hour," Yingsu, having received a signal from Xuan Yue, hurriedly ran over from the yard.
"Quick, quick, quick, give me the comb, let’s do the young lady’s hair."
Aunt Liao, with a comb in hand, started doing her hair: "Comb once, comb until the end; comb twice, comb to have white hair as long as the eyebrows; and comb three times, wishing for children and grandchildren all around..."
Just as the bride’s grooming was completed, the bridal sedan chair arrived at the gate, waiting. Jueqing was blocking Dugu Chen in the front courtyard, bombarding him with riddles and poetry. It was only after Dugu Chen started showing impatience that Jueqing finally shut up, allowing Dugu Chen to enter and fetch his cousin bride.
