Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Death Forest

Shen Feng had now completely shifted into his combat form. His muscles bulged and the skin on his chest and back petrified. With immense strength, he kicked off the dilapidated motorcycle, causing it to shatter into a pile of parts!

The rapidly pursuing Crow Hunters didn’t expect Shen Feng to suddenly slow down. While they stood there stunned, Shen Feng descended from the sky with Firefly and landed on the vehicle’s seat!

SHINK!

Two daggers pierced the driver’s hands, pinning them firmly to the steering wheel!

"Aaargh—" The driver let out a piercing shriek. Spurred by the intense pain, he frantically stomped on the gas pedal, sending the vehicle rocketing forward.

The thrower beside him grabbed a javelin and thrust it at Shen Feng, but it was completely unable to pierce his body.

Firefly swiftly detached from Shen Feng, a small knife in her hand. In an instant, she pierced the thrower’s throat, then sent him flying from the vehicle with a vicious kick.

This iron-frame vehicle only had a driver and a thrower, so Shen Feng and Firefly quickly seized control of it.

"Burn it!" Grey Feather roared from a nearby vehicle. He yanked the steering wheel, aiming to ram them.

At the same time, three Burning Bottles were hurled from the surrounding vehicles!

Shen Feng’s eyes flashed. He yanked out one of the daggers and brutally stabbed it into the driver’s right knee.

The jolt of pain made the driver’s leg muscles seize up, flooring the gas pedal. The vehicle accelerated again, dodging the Burning Bottles and Grey Feather’s ramming attempt.

Shen Feng snatched two javelins and hurled them, instantly piercing the shoulder of the driver in an adjacent vehicle. The man screamed in agony as his vehicle’s speed plummeted.

Following his lead, Firefly grabbed the remaining two Burning Bottles, lit them with a lighter, and tossed them at their pursuers.

The first Burning Bottle landed on the ground, but the second smashed directly onto the roof of one of the vehicles.

BOOM!

Gasoline drenched the iron-frame vehicle and was instantly ignited. The entire thing erupted into a fireball. The Crow Hunters inside screamed as it crashed, then jumped out, engulfed in flames, desperately rolling on the ground to extinguish them.

Now armed, Shen Feng and Firefly’s offensive capabilities had increased dramatically, forcing the Crow Hunters to keep their distance for a while.

They knew the power of a Burning Bottle better than anyone!

"Grey Feather, what do we do? They’re getting away!" Scar yelled towards a nearby vehicle.

They had already agreed: the treasures in the outsider’s backpack were all his, on top of a hefty bounty. He couldn’t just let him escape!

Grey Feather’s expression was grim. Watching Shen Feng and Firefly speed away, he said, "Don’t worry. They’ll be property of the tribe soon enough."

The road ahead opened into a barren river valley.

The pebbles strewn across the canyon floor indicated that this had once been a riverbed, now completely dry.

As Shen Feng’s vehicle charged into the canyon, Grey Feather immediately raised the Spiral Horn to his lips and blew!

The horn’s call echoed through the dry river valley. On the surrounding hills, figures emerged, raising their javelins!

The Crow Tribe had already set an ambush here!

With a savage expression, Shen Feng kicked the screaming driver out of the vehicle. He slid into the driver’s seat, slammed the pedal to the floor, and gunned it.

"Shen Feng, the Death Forest is below that cliff up ahead! The Crows have been trying to force us into this death trap all along!"

Firefly yelled.

She suddenly realized that the Crow Tribe had been herding them here from the very start, trying to trap them!

Shen Feng’s face grew heavy. He remembered Firefly and the mayor talking about the Death Forest—about a powerful curse, and even ancient monsters that killed without a trace.

Many wasteland residents had ventured in there, but never returned.

Only the mayor had ever survived the Death Forest. He brought back a spear, but he never spoke of what was inside.

Just then, the air filled with whistling sounds. The Crow Hunters on the hills hurled their javelins, long ropes tied to their ends.

Once the vehicle was hit, it would be completely unable to escape!

Behind them, Grey Feather and his men slowed, fanning out in an arc to block any retreat. They clearly thought Shen Feng was a fish in a barrel.

Shen Feng swerved wildly, dodging the attacks. Gritting his teeth, he turned to Firefly with a grimly determined look.

"We’re going in! Are you scared?"

Firefly glanced back at their vicious pursuers, then grinned, revealing a mouthful of pearly white teeth.

"Of course not. Out in the wastes, I laugh in the face of danger! Go!"

Shen Feng nodded, and drove straight towards the cliff ahead!

Seeing what Shen Feng was doing, Grey Feather’s face fell. He yelled:

"Quick, detonate! Stop them!"

The words had barely left his mouth when two fiery serpents snaked down from the hills, converging on a point in the center of the path.

Shen Feng’s vehicle reached that exact spot at the same moment.

With a deafening BOOM, several barrels of gasoline buried underground exploded, launching the iron-frame vehicle, along with Shen Feng, Firefly, and a cascade of dirt, a dozen meters into the air!

The vehicle’s forward momentum carried it dozens of meters through the air, clearing the cliff’s edge and plummeting toward the forest below!

The Crow Tribe’s vehicles screeched to a halt at the cliff’s edge. Grey Feather leaped out, his face grim, and ran to the precipice. Looking down, he saw only layers of mist and the tall, twisted, gray-green canopy of the forest. There was no trace of Shen Feng.

"Who set this trap!? Why was there so much fuel!" Grey Feather roared.

Scar also walked to the cliff’s edge, looking down with a pained expression.

’I can’t believe it. The outsider was actually blown right off the cliff and into the Death Forest.’

’Now there’s no way I can get that backpack...’

"Grey Feather, is the Seed Source just... gone? And that woman... What about my payment?" Scar asked cautiously.

Grey Feather’s face was murderous. He said coldly:

"You’ll get your payment. As for the backpack, you can go down and get it yourself."

His second-in-command spoke up, a look of regret on his face. "Grey Feather, should we send a team down to look for them?"

Grey Feather had already regained his usual cold demeanor. He waved a hand dismissively.

"A dead Flawless Seed Source is worth less than a rat. If they manage to make it out alive, it won’t be too late to capture them then... There’s also news of a Flawless Seed Source in Northern Town. Send someone to investigate immediately."

"What about that woman? Who is she, really?" Scar asked curiously.

Grey Feather narrowed his eyes, looked towards the cliff, and said with some regret, "I’ve seen her people before. It’s likely they’re related to the Underground People..."

’Underground People?’ Scar was puzzled; he’d never really heard the name before. Then he gave a sly grin, took out a small bag, and said:

"Actually, regarding the Flawless Seed Source, I have another clue... Did you know that the Saint Spear Mayor of Nameless Town appeared suddenly ten years ago?"

Grey Feather’s eyes shot wide. He glanced at Scar’s hand and saw that the bag seemed to contain a tuft of whiskers...

...

"KRR-KRR... KRR-KRR..."

The buzzing of a Geiger counter woke Shen Feng. His eyes snapped open to find himself lying by a riverbank, completely drenched.

Not far from him was the unconscious Firefly.

Looking around, he saw they were in a lush forest, but while the trees were dense, they were all strangely twisted.

’We must have fallen into a river and washed up here.’

Shen Feng lifted the Geiger counter from his belt and looked at the display:

327.
