Chapter 271: Soaring Eagles Knight Order

The knights came into their vision, and Rion noted inwardly, ’All of them are superhumans.’

His gaze settled on the knight at the front, whose armour bore three stars instead of two like others’, indicating that he was a knight captain.

He was a lean man with long white hair and deep black eyes that seemed to pull anyone who dared to look in them. A scar ran down from the side of his head to his nose, and the pressure of a commander followed him.

Seeing the three unexpected figures before them, the knight captain raised his hand and said, "Halt!"

The knights immediately stopped their horses and stared at Rion and the others.

He jumped off his horse, caressed his back, and said, "Wait for me."

The horse snorted in response as if he didn’t care for him.

The knight captain chuckled as he took a few steps towards them, and his crisp yet heavy voice reached them, "I am the captain of the Soaring Eagles Knight Order, Jasmic Abraham. Who are you people and what are you doing here?"

Rion stepped forward with raised hands and responded with an easy smile, tugging at his lips, "I am Bael. This is our first time in the capital, and we just lost our way while looking for an inn."

Hearing his lighthearted response, Jasmic narrowed his eyes and thought, ’Even though six knights are standing before him, he doesn’t seem scared at all.’

His eyes shifted towards the Rion’s two companions, and he asked, "What about them?"

"Ah! I forgot to introduce my friends," he muttered with a wry smile and shifted his hand towards Zaelyane as he added, "This here is Zaisha."

He shifted his other hand towards Yuura. "And this is Yuura."

The knight captain nodded before he turned backwards and said, "Ember. Help them find an inn."

Ember groaned as she jumped off her horse and mumbled, "Return. Mary."

Mary neighed softly and rubbed her head against her before she turned back and dashed back to the barracks.

Ember was a mature woman, seemingly in her late twenties, with fiery red hair and eyes; two tiny golden balls were set beside the edge of her left eye, and she had wide lips.

She stepped forward and gave a nod to Jasmic before she looked at Rion with curious eyes and said, while waving her hand and turning around, "Follow me. Bael and party."

Rion looked at Jasmic and said, "I don’t think there’s any need for you to do this."

Jasmic smiled. "You don’t have to worry, we are simply doing our duty." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

A grateful look appeared on Rion’s face. He placed a hand above his heart and said, "Thanks a lot."

"Don’t worry about it," Jasmic mumbled.

"Let’s go!" Ember muttered impatiently.

Rion looked between Zaelyane and Yuura and whispered while flicking his head to the side, "Let’s go."

They nodded, and the three of them walked towards Ember.

Once they reached her, Ember stepped forward and mumbled, "Don’t walk away from me."

They nodded and followed behind her.

A blonde-haired knight with a silver filling in his left eye, suggesting that he had lost it, looked at Jasmic and asked with a frown, "Captain Jasmic, why did you ask Ember to show them an inn?"

Jasmic gazed at their departing backs and said, "That’s where you are wrong, Kael. She isn’t taking them to any inn."

Kael’s frown deepened. "Then?"

"She is taking them to the detention house."

"Huh?! Why is that?"

Another knight with a nimble body answered, "That bael guy... even while talking to the captain, he wasn’t scared at all."

Rion and others followed behind Ember, and as they walked the streets, as soon as the civilians saw a knight, their smiles vanished, their chatter died, and scornful expressions overtook their faces, but none of them stepped forward to say anything.

Simply because Ember alone had enough strength to slaughter every single one of them without breaking a sweat.

Seeing the civilians’ faces, Rion’s expression turned sour, and he asked, "Why are they looking at us with such hate?"

Ember finally looked at the civilians staring at her, and as their gazes met, they turned around. Those with kids pulled them closer, as if hiding them from some demon.

Her expression stayed the same, and she muttered, "They have the same face for every knight."

Her tone was flat as if she couldn’t care less about their looks.

’Shouldn’t she be worried?’ Rion frowned and asked, "Why is that?"

Ember furrowed her brows. "What?"

Rion turned his head to the people and said, "I’ve been to many cities, at none did I find knights being hated by the majority."

Hearing him, Ember let out an amused chuckle and said, "You are at the capital, not at any city."

She turned her head towards him. "Things here are a bit different."

Rion forced a smile and asked, "Are the capital’s knights supposed to be hated instead of loved?"

All the amusement drained from her face, and she muttered loudly as she turned her head back to the front,

"No, they are not, but what can we do? Everyone has to deal with the consequences of their actions. The public decided to follow the duke, and he pushed the kingdom to what it is now."

Many of the civilians lowered their heads, and Rion mumbled, "The king could have solved it by quickly responding to the accusations."

Ember shook her head and said, "It’s easy to say when you don’t know anything."

’So something did happen during that time... otherwise it doesn’t make sense why the king would take a duke who is also a nebula lightly.’

"I see..." Rion mumbled under his breath as he stopped in his tracks.

Others also stopped, and he stated, "Then let us talk again after I know everything."

Ember frowned, turned her head to the back, and asked, "What do you..."

But Rion and others weren’t there.

"...What?"
