the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1151: This Is My New Year’s Gift to You
Griffith Squire, having achieved his goal for the day, was immediately in a good mood. He took Aurora Coldwell out of the room, waiting outside for Ian Coldwell to return for Chinese New Year’s Eve.
"Thank you." Aurora gestured, her eyes slightly misty as she looked at him. Her little face was flushed, either from the cold or from excitement. She was no longer expressionless, with her features animated and charming, exuding a vibrant spirit.
Griffith, though not understanding sign language, could tell that this beautiful young girl was thanking him. To him, doing these things was just a trivial effort. Yet, knowing he could change a young girl’s life with just a wave of his hand gave him a vague sense of accomplishment.
He had mostly come to terms with his past, which had been bloody and ruthless. Someone like him was likely to end up in Hell after death. Occasionally showing mercy and doing good deeds gave him the illusion that he wasn’t so bad. Besides, dealing with these treacherous demons, he, as the Demon Lord, had plenty of means.
"Aurora, today is Chinese New Year’s Eve. This is my New Year’s gift to you. No need to thank me." His eyes, filled with affection, slightly lifted, as he spoke in a deep, seductive voice, "Smile more in the future. You look beautiful when you smile."
A New Year’s gift? She hardly remembered the last time she received one. Aurora was momentarily taken aback, looking at the man’s extraordinarily handsome face, then her fingertips trembled as she nodded heavily, trying to return a smile, though it was a bit stiff.
Ian Coldwell, having finished tidying up, came out of the vacation villa beaming, just in time to bump into Zoe Kingston and her group hurrying over.
Zoe Kingston, seeing Ian Coldwell chatting with Griffith Squire while accompanied by Aurora and Butler Zhao, found it glaring no matter how she looked.
Zoe Kingston, a shrewd woman adept at putting on an act, usually played the role of a virtuous wife and good mother in front of Ian. Seeing the situation, she approached with a smile, "Ah Ian, I was just coming to take you home. Why is Aurora here as well?"
Zoe Kingston shot a glance at George Kingston.
George Kingston quickly stepped forward and angrily pointed at Griffith, "You damn cheat, you dare show off and deceive in front of Uncle Coldwell too. Yesterday you sent people to drive me and Aunt out of the Coldwell House, and today you want to deceive Uncle Coldwell again?"
Griffith looked at George, whose face was greasy from excess indulgence, and seeing him as noisy as a crow, he sneered, "Your surname is Kingston, not Coldwell. Living in the Coldwell House is not appropriate, no? Besides, Aurora is my fiancée. You, an outsider, living in my fiancée’s house, do you take me for a dead man?"
George was rendered speechless, his face turning blue from the retort.
Standing aside, Zoe, seeing her nephew had opened the conversation, naturally picked up the thread, looking at Aurora with a hidden smirk, "Aurora, don’t get deceived by young pretty boys nowadays. Your sister and I are your family. How can you let an outsider kick us out?"
Zoe then turned to Ian with some grievance, "Ian, I think we should bring Aurora back. Otherwise, I’m not at ease, let her marry George soon, so we can take care of her, or else if she gets deceived and it gets out, it will bring shame to the Coldwell Family."
Ian was a face-saving person. Whenever Zoe mentioned matters of losing face, he usually listened to her. But today, despite her earnest efforts, why was it not working?
"Zoe, Mr. Elvis is not a cheat. The Coldwell House originally belonged to Aurora’s mother to be left to her. You have many properties under your name, just choose one and move. I’m aware of everything, don’t bring it up again." Ian, fearing this aunt and nephew would offend the major benefactor and ten billion bride price, quickly stopped them from speaking more, even smiled at Griffith Squire instead of getting angry.
Zoe, seeing this, was almost injured inside from anger, already knowing well this evildoer could turn the world upside down, speak gibberish into truth. The loss of yesterday hadn’t been avenged, and now she had to vacate the Coldwell House. She glared fiercely at Aurora, regretting keeping this bane, who was trouble even after being mute.
After the past few days, Aurora, seeing her stepmother suffer setbacks, felt much of the psychological shadow she had cast gradually fade. She stood firmly by Griffith’s side, turning a blind eye.
Seeing Griffith’s vehicle was a Bugatti Veyron, Ian nodded appreciatively, his smile widening, and got into his own car heading back to the city.
Griffith took Aurora into the car, not even glancing at Zoe and her nephew.
"Aunt, are we just going to suffer this mute injustice?" George gnashed his teeth, clenching his fists. He had to find someone to ruin that man. He hadn’t yet tasted what the girl Aurora was like; how could he let an outsider have it.
"Your Uncle Coldwell isn’t dead yet," Zoe sneered, "Investigate this Elvis Canaan properly. If this brat was brought by that wretched girl Aurora to hoodwink us, I’ll ensure he doesn’t have a place to die, and the wretched girl won’t have a peaceful life either."
"I’ll go investigate right away." A malicious gleam burst from George’s eyes. Brocade City was his territory; this kid was doomed.
Ian Coldwell was faster in action than the Zoe-George pair.
Ian, sitting in his car, contemplated as he looked at the Bugatti Veyron behind him, then dialed Commissioner Fang with a smile, "Old Fang, are you out inspecting or spending New Year’s with your family? I’m here to wish you a new year in advance."
"Oh dear, Mr. Coldwell, you’re too polite. How could I have such good fortune? I’ve been working overtime every day these days," Commissioner Fang replied with a forced smile. "Called for something specific?"
Someone like Ian, who had money on his mind all the time, would call without a reason? Not a chance.
Ian got straight to the point, "The public security hasn’t been too good lately. The Italian mafia has come to Brocade City; everyone is panicking. I called to ask about this situation."
Commissioner Fang felt a jolt inside. This matter was confidential; how did he know? His face immediately turned serious as he responded, "There’s nothing like that. Who did Mr. Coldwell hear such rumors from?"
"People have come to my house. Can I be making this up?" Ian cursed quietly in his heart, then sneered, "Old Fang, we’ve known each other for so many years now; give me the lowdown on their background, and I won’t ask anything else."
Hearing this, Commissioner Fang was greatly pleased. He’d been struggling to find someone, and here the opportunity presented itself. He gravely responded, "The Italian Mafia, the Elvis Family, has arrived in Brocade City. This is a confidential matter; make sure not to get involved, or else even the Southwest Region won’t remain calm. Stay put, and you can contact me anytime if anything happens."
Upon hearing this, Ian was overjoyed. Old Fang’s information was from the Military District, reliable without doubt. Recalling the ten billion bride price Griffith mentioned and entering the Italian market, his heart burned with eagerness. Such a golden opportunity shouldn’t be missed.
