The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 250: Stealing the First Blood!
For a moment, silence fell onto the entire stadium, as everyone had their jaws dropped in shock and awe. Even though the play was so complicated, everything happened so fast, like a flash, that they couldn’t process it straight away. Hell, even the players inside the pitch were still in disbelief here, wondering whether they were hallucinating or not.
Usami, the main character here, also stumbled on the ground; he hadn’t seen the result of his hard work yet. After running at full speed, it was easy to shake off his balance, as a single turn to change his angle for the shot was enough to do that.
However, the boy was clear-headed right now. He remembered well how his ears picked up the sound of the ball hitting the nets, and he also didn’t see the linesman raising the offside flag there. Then, as if wanting to confirm that he got what he wanted, the referee finally blew a long whistle, confirming that the goal was valid.
FWEEE!
And right after that, the boy got up from the ground immediately, running to the supporter’s stand on his own team’s half and roared, "AAAAAAARGH!"
That was when hell broke loose.
"WHAT THE FUCK?! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON THERE?!"
"Holy shit... He dribbled past everyone! Who the hell is he?!"
"Yeah! How come I have never heard his name before?!"
"Hey, that’s my son! That’s my son that you are talking about!"
Even though the cheers only came from a small part of the stadium, as most of the part was still in disbelief, the sound was still echoing throughout the whole stadium. The entire section where all the Hakodate Nishi supporters gathered went into frenzy, jumping around with the guys holding the taiko, all hitting them so loudly, as if wanting to announce the goal to the world.
Meanwhile, all the Hakodate Nishi players also went crazy. They all chased Usami, who ran back to the team’s supporters, with Takaaki being the first one to get the boy. The glasses boy hugged his friend from behind while also shouting crazily to the supporter.
"COME ON! USAMI FROM 2-C, REMEMBER HIS NAME!"
The others followed behind, still with awe and dumbstruck expressions on their faces.
"Fuck it, Usami! What the hell did you eat before the game?!" Even Makino, the calm-headed one, couldn’t help but express his admiration.
"Yes, Usami-senpai! That was the craziest run I have ever seen!" Denki added, ruffling his senpai’s hair playfully.
Indeed, the goal itself was nothing but spectacular. In total, Usami got through the defense of Kenji Harada, Ayase, Hiroyuki, Rin Mito, Okamura, and the goalkeeper himself before landing the ball in the back of the net. Six players, for God’s sake! It was more than half of the entire squad, and Usami beat them all by himself!
This was enough for him to create a legend on his own, immortalizing his name as the scorer for the best goal in the tournament’s history.
After the adrenaline rushed down, though, Usami reverted back into his shy personality, and the attention he received started to make him squirm uncomfortably. Unfortunately, his teammates still pushed him through the limelight, so he had no choice but to receive all the cheers here.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the pitch, all the Sapporo Otani players were still in a daze. They didn’t know what was going on here. One moment, everything looked fine after they were able to clear away the corner kick’s threat, and now, they were suffering from the ’Ankara-Messi’ style goal?
No matter how many goals they scored today, they were destined to be a background for tomorrow’s news, as every single platform in Hokkaido would highlight Usami’s crazy solo-run goal.
Now, they just stood there silently, feeling helpless in this situation.
The problem, though, was that they couldn’t see which one was at fault right now. Usually, if they conceded a goal, the one responsible for that would apologize immediately to show an attitude, easing the depressing mood on the team. However, this time, everyone did everything perfectly. It was the case of a good defense meeting a crazy offense, and they couldn’t even stop or hold him back for a second.
"Why have we never heard of him before?" Yuwell suddenly asked, his gaze was still on Usami as he watched the boy in a complicated mood. "I mean, his dribble is good! Too good to be true, even, and yet, this is the first time we have seen him taking such an action like that! All we are focusing on is always the number 10, but their number 8 is far more dangerous, right?!"
This was indeed a big problem. As a big team, Sapporo Otani had a scouting team whose task was to gather intelligence about their opponent, and for this final, they only said to keep an eye on Hiroshi and the twins, who could burst out at one point of the game. Never in that note did the scouting team refer to Usami as a dangerous player, making them all look down on him unconsciously.
This was a huge mistake, one that they had to pay for with a goal on the back of their net.
"Well, it doesn’t matter." Rin Mito finally stepped up, taking a deep breath before starting to speak. "This is definitely a miss-scouting case, but we cannot do anything about it. For now, Hiroyuki, you are going to keep your eyes on him as well, and either he or the number 10 gets the ball, try to get him to Ayase or the flank, and we will gang him there, okay?"
Hiroyuki bit his lips before nodding nervously. This was definitely far more difficult than his job description, which was to only stop Hiroshi for the entire game. However, someone had to take responsibility, and since he was the team’s main butcher in the midfield, the task fell on his shoulders, naturally.
"Also, Yuwell." Rin Mito suddenly switched to English, staring at their ace intently. "I don’t care what method you use after this, but we need to return the goal as quickly as possible. This is the final, and we have to show that we are the best team here!"
