The Reincarnator's Inauspicious Route to Finding Love - Chapter 67: Something Strange (2)
Adrien woke up the next morning feeling surprisingly refreshed, if not just a tad bit sore. His throat ached more than his other ’mouth’ did, which wasn’t surprising with all the attention that Mikyle had put into healing his ass. But why must he use his tongue?!
The two of them stuck with their morning routine of jogging before preparing for the school day. Adrien found that he was able to jog for longer bursts of time without feeling breathless. The difference hadn’t surprised him much though since Mikyle had practically healed all of his older injuries. . .again while using that damn tongue of his. Honestly, that tongue should be considered a sin.
Adrien found his mind wandering during class, thinking about the previous night’s events and even the things that had happened earlier that morning. Even without Mikyle beside him, he was still finding himself distracted by the red-eyed man.
And he was the only thing that had been distracting Adrien. Another distraction was the mole located under his eye.
Ever since he had woken up that morning, the tingling itch that had been pestering him had intensified into an unbearable itch. It was to the point that Adrien wanted to scratch the mole right off his face.
Adrien suppressed a groan as he patiently waited for the class to end. He was looking forward to his next class which was Magic Training. He was hoping that the intense focus needed for the class will help distract him from the annoying itch and the embarrassing thoughts of Mikyle that kept randomly flittering through his head at inconvenient times.
As the clock hands ticked by slowly, class finally came to an end. He quickly gathered up his belongings and darted out of the room.
As he was weaving around the other students while trying to make it down to the first floor to leave the building, he caught sight of a familiar head of pale-blonde hair. It wasn’t the sister he was wanting, but he decided that she would do.
"Lady Aefre!" He called out to the youngest Ceciles sister while remembering to add ’lady’ in front of her name since there were many eyes and ears around them. The girls may have given him permission to be less formal with them, but that didn’t mean he could be so casual with them when they were in a crowded area. He could only imagine the type of rumors that would spread from it.
"Adrien?" Aefre turned around at his call with a puzzled look on her delicate heart-shaped face. "Is something the matter?"
Adrien guided her until they were out of the way of the incoming traffic. "Do you know what your sister did to me?" Adrien asked, wanting to get straight to the point. "My mole has been itching to the point that I want to rip it off."
Aefre’s blue eyes widened in surprise. Her gaze landed on his mole and she gently bit her lower lip. "What makes you think Aisley did something to you?" Aefre asked hesitantly.
"I can’t prove that she did or did not do anything to me. But ever since she casually brushed the side of my face yesterday, I’ve been feeling a tingling itch that is rapidly becoming worse." Was it strange that he sounded kind of hysterical? He had a feeling anyone would if they had to experience an itch they couldn’t get rid of for two days straight. Every time he scratched around his mole, it only caused the itching to become worse. It was literally a scratch that he couldn’t itch since it felt like it was coming from underneath his skin– a place that he couldn’t reach no matter how hard he tried.
Aefre’s eyes widened once again, and the confusion was clearly written on her face. It seemed her mask had finally slipped. "Yesterday?" She mumbled loud enough for him to hear. "Is his magic stronger than we thought?" Her words this time were quiet and Adrien only caught some of them, even with him standing so close to her.
Strong magic? Who, me? I can’t even use my magic. Hmm? Wait, didn’t Mikyle mention something similar during one of our conversations when we first started dating? He said the way the Mana Capacity orb acted during our testing and the fact that I’m having a hard time releasing my Mana might mean that my Mana is so strong that it is trying to come out all at once which is why it isn’t coming out at all. We were planning on testing that theory after the school year calmed down. But if that is the case, does that mean my being in Adrien’s body has nothing to do with my inability to use this body’s Mana?
Aefre shook her head, and the previous expression she wore was no longer there. "It’s probably nothing but an itch. Good luck during your Magic Training." With that, Aefre practically darted off, making her behavior seem suspicious even to a stranger.
Why would she mention my mole and my Magic Training class in practically the same sentence? Does this infernal itch have something to do with magic?
Adrien shook his head before heading off to his next class. He didn’t want to be late, and plus, if the infuriating itch had something to do with Magic or Mana, then he would probably find out what the connection was sooner or later.
He was passing by the training field where the swordsmanship class was being held. The students in the class were running around the track outlining the field. Adrien easily spotted his brothers since their blue hair stuck out even amongst the sea of colors. Brayden was toward the front of the pack while Cedric was roughly in the middle.
In between them was Mikyle. His golden-blonde hair shimmered in the sunlight and the training outfit that he wore clung to him in all the right places.
Just as Adrien was turning to head to the training field where his class was being held, Mikyle gave him a small wave. Suddenly, Mikyle’s speed picked up without seeming too unnatural. Shortly, Mikyle caught up to where Brayden was. Adrien physically winced when he realized that most of Brayden’s skin was discolored in purple and green markings.
Mikyle wasn’t lying when he said that he had beaten Brayden up pretty good.
As soon as Mikyle reached Brayden, Mikyle’s foot slid out, catching against Brayden’s. While Mikyle’s arms flailed out around him in a wide and bemusing manner– showing just how exaggerated the movement was,– Brayden tumbled forward, unable to catch himself.
Adrien snorted at the sight before turning back in the direction he had been heading in. He’ll have to figure out what to do for Mikyle later as thanks for the amusing show.
Adrien scratched the itch that was not going away once more before entering into the training field. Around half of his classmates were already there. He took off his outer jacket and folded it up onto his bag. He had learned during all of his attempts to release his Mana just how sweaty he could become.
After the rest of the students arrived, Adrien was pulled off to the side by the teacher for personal lessons since he was the only student so far who had been unable to release their Mana. As per the teacher’s instructions, he closed his eyes and held out his hand in front of him. Inhaling a deep breath, he calmed his mind and called forth the Mana inside his veins. It felt like a cold spark lit up in his bloodstream, slowly following the path of his blood vessels.
That cold spark flowed like water, one that was coated in a misty substance. Wherever it traveled, his blood vessels felt full, almost as if they were going to burst. He felt his pulse quickening and his breathing became uneven. The blood in his body felt like ice and it felt as if something was tearing him from the inside out following the wake of the terrifying spark.
After what felt like eternity, but was merely only a few seconds, the pain disappeared. In its wake was pure, undiluted Mana. That Mana flowed out of his finger tips creating a jet of water that spiraled out in front of him. It burst forth, uncaring of what lay in its path.
A hand landed on his shoulder. "Take a deep breath. Inhale," his teacher advised, his voice calm and steady. "Try to calm your racing heart and cut off the flow of Mana from its source."
Adrien, who was barely able to make out his teacher’s words, tried to do as he was instructed. Just then, the itch that had been coming from his mole, subsided until a pulsing ache came from it. Just then, he felt an unfamiliar source of Mana flow into his, merging until they were one.
The water forming at his hand increased in intensity. Adrien felt his head throb and his eyesight slowly turn black around the edges. Just before his knees buckled, he felt that strange misty feeling that had been wrapped around his Mana leave him. A black hazy mist that could have been a byproduct of his darkening eyesight was the last thing he saw before losing consciousness.
