THE REAL PROTEGE
Chapter 551: HIDDEN PROPHECY ECHOES
Elsewhere — The Hidden Sect
Far beneath the celestial realm, where sunlight rarely touched the earth, shadows gathered in secret.
Nestled deep within a mountain range long erased from memory and maps alike, secrets lingered in silence.
Far from the light of heaven, the secretive Iron Veil Sect had also felt the disturbance. Long-time rivals of the mountain's guardians, the sect moved in the shadows, watching every tremor that might shift the balance of power.
A shadowed temple brooded at the heart of a valley, its stones veiled by curling black fog that never lifted.
Within its silent halls, an ancient mirror fractured with a sound like distant thunder.
A figure cloaked in tattered robes lifted his gaze, movements slow as if weighed by centuries.
His voice rasped, roughened by the passage of countless years.
"…Mystic Mountain."
Another figure stepped forward.
"The prophecy?"
The elder nodded.
"Yes."
He fixed his gaze upon the fractured mirror, its surface catching the dim light in jagged reflections.
"And something else."
Etched into the mirror's surface, a single word glimmered amid the cracks.
Otako.
The elder's whisper barely stirred the heavy air.
"If the Sovereign Without Name truly begins to awaken…"
"…the world will change."
Back at Mystic Mountain,
The wind moved gently through the bamboo forest.
Children laughed in the distance.
Dragons rested on high cliffs.
The mountain looked peaceful.
Yet far above, beyond the reach of mortal eyes,
Heaven had begun to watch.
And when the gaze of heaven turns toward the world,
The world itself holds its breath, sensing that change is near.
The journey back to the Main Hall began.
The group made their way up from the valley where the Tatzelwurm had fallen, footsteps lightened by relief and the promise of home.
The sharp edge of battle faded, replaced by the bubbling laughter and chatter of the younger ones as they walked.
The mountain path wound through groves of towering bamboo and clusters of spirit flowers, their petals glowing softly as they danced in the afternoon breeze.
At the front strode the Azure Dragon, his bearing calm and authoritative, a silent reminder of the respect he commanded. Ling Li and Four Eyes held their places at his sides, following his lead but casting the occasional glance his way, subtly measuring his decisions. Red moved just ahead, her steps brisk, sometimes pausing to issue a gentle correction to a straggler or to shoot a questioning look back at the Azure Dragon, her protective instincts occasionally challenging his pace. For a moment, Ling Li hesitated, as if considering whether to step forward, but a brief nod from the Azure Dragon kept her in line. The group's order was maintained, though the subtle currents of rivalry and deference flowed just beneath the surface.
Behind the elders, the younger ones scattered along the winding path, their energy undimmed.
Xiao Chi soared above in her phoenix form, a streak of crimson fire weaving between shafts of sunlight.
The twins chased after her, laughter trailing in their wake.
"Wait for us!"
Chin Chin laughed as she tried to catch the phoenix's trailing feathers.
Kim Kim lingered behind, pausing now and then to peer curiously at strange and wonderful plants growing along the path.
Further back, Huang and Zhu kept a steady pace, their watchful eyes ensuring no child strayed too far from the group.
Shi Min and Mushu brought up the rear, their footsteps quiet on the mossy stones.
Shun and Fatty had fallen into conversation with Ren and Lily.
Ren glanced back, eyes lingering on the shadowed valley where the Tatzelwurm's body still lay.
"I still cannot believe you two trained here."
Fatty scratched the back of his head.
"You should have seen the first week."
Lily blinked.
"What happened?"
Shun chuckled bitterly.
"We nearly died."
Ren raised a brow.
"Just from that Tatzelwurm earlier, the fight was already difficult."
Fatty nodded gravely.
"And during our training, our cultivation was much weaker than now."
Lily and Ren exchanged a glance.
"Then your training must have been brutal," Lily said.
Fatty sighed.
"We only survived because Otako appeared."
For a moment, the group fell silent, each remembering the moment the Samurai-masked man had stepped from the mist. With a flick of his sleeve, Otako had deflected the beast's strike, moving faster than the eye could follow. Some whispered that he commanded not only the sword, but shadows themselves—though none dared ask him outright.
Shun nodded quietly.
Shun nodded quietly.
"We lost several companions before he arrived."
The silence that followed was heavy. Each heard in their mind the voices now gone, remembered laughter echoing in the wind, the empty spaces where friends once stood. For some, the pain had hardened resolve; for others, it left an ache beneath each step. Though the group's bonds had grown stronger in the struggle, a sliver of fear and grief lingered, quietly challenging their unity and reminding them what was at stake.
A sudden, powerful gust swept through the bamboo forest, setting the tall stalks whispering in alarm.
Spirit birds burst from the branches in a flurry of color, startled into flight.
All eyes turned skyward, searching for the source of the disturbance.
From the sky above, a massive eagle descended, its wings casting a vast shadow over the path.
The Injured Man
The eagle landed heavily before the Azure Dragon.
Its wings were enormous, casting a wide shadow over the path.
But what truly caught everyone's attention was the man it carried.
The eagle shifted into human form.
A young man appeared where the bird had been.
He knelt respectfully before the Azure Dragon while carefully lowering the injured person.
The man lying on the ground was in terrible condition.
His robes were torn apart.
His stomach had been ripped open by deep claw marks.
Blood soaked through his clothing.
One of his legs bent unnaturally, clearly broken.
The wound was so severe that even the children froze.
The smell of blood filled the air.
The Azure Dragon stepped forward immediately.
"What happened to him?"
The eagle-man shook his head.
"I found him beside the creek."
"I do not know what attacked him."
The Twins Diagnose
Before anyone else could speak—
Two small figures rushed forward.
Kim Kim and Chin Chin.
They crouched beside the man, studying the injuries intensely.
Their earlier playful expressions disappeared instantly.
Both twins had been reading medical books for months.
And now—
They were eager to show what they knew.
Kim Kim spoke first.
"The abdominal cavity has ruptured."
Chin Chin nodded quickly.
"There is severe internal bleeding."
Kim Kim continued.
"The leg fracture appears to be compound."
"The tibia may have pierced through the muscle."
Chin Chin pointed to the wound.
"The bleeding must be stopped immediately, or he will go into shock."
Kim Kim added calmly,
"We must first stabilize the breathing."
"Then clean the wound."
"Then stitch the abdominal tear."
Chin Chin nodded proudly.
"And set the bone!"
The twins looked at each other.
Then suddenly—
They began arguing.
"I should treat him!"
"No, I should!"
"I identified the wound first!"
"I explained the treatment first!"
Ling Li rubbed her forehead quietly.
Four Eyes coughed into his sleeve.
