The No.1 Undercover in the Immortal World
Chapter 585 - 93: Unable to Return
Reflecting on his journey thus far, Lin Yun realized he’d often spun tales and bluffed, but many times, what he made up eventually turned out to be true.
Like when he was spouting nonsense in the Great Mist Secret Realm about the Demon Tribe invading, the Grassland rebelling, the Imperial Family staging a coup, and the Princess assuming the throne.
After he emerged from the Great Mist Secret Realm, these fabrications began to come true one by one.
Could it be that I’m really a prophet?
Thinking of his previous nonsensical talks with Impermanence, Lin Yun felt a bit uneasy again.
Black Cat saw Lin Yun zoning out and quickly withdrew its paw from his hand, darting to the side before continuing, "The God Realm and the Primordial Realm created by the gods are different. Without the gods, the God Realm gradually fell into disrepair, inciting catastrophic disasters. The Great Virtue Celestial Dragon, Ancestor Bai, quelled these calamities with his own strength, subdued all the tumultuous divine realms, and this place became known as the Myriad Realms’ Ruins."
With her explanation, Lin Yun also came to understand the general cause and effect.
The White Dragon that he inherited among his Divine Skills was the one involved in quelling the disasters.
Bai Jiaojiao, upon hearing this, learned that Elder Bai Lin was none other than the Great Virtue Celestial Dragon and also bore the name of Ancestor Bai. Sharing the identity as a White Dragon with Ancestor Bai, Bai Jiaojiao took pride in the connection.
And the Divine Realm Inhabitants, mentioned by Black Cat, must be the same as what Bai Lin referred to as the Divine Dependents.
Previously, Bai Lin said he wanted to kill the Divine Dependents, and Bai Jiaojiao hadn’t thought much about it. But now, after hearing Black Cat’s story, she pondered why Bai Lin wouldn’t allow these Divine Realm Inhabitants, who were originally from the Primordial Realm and thus of the same lineage, to return.
Bai Jiaojiao voiced her confusion, and Black Cat could only shake its head helplessly, unable to provide an answer.
After all, Bai Lin was dead, leaving only his lingering regrets. The beings of the God Realm had no chance or the right to communicate with him. They knew only that the weak could not break through the spatial barrier while the powerful would be suppressed by the remnants of Bai Lin’s consciousness. Although they were merely remnants, they were not something the Divine Realm Inhabitants could resist.
While Black Cat had failed to provide an answer, Lin Yun offered one.
"If you were a ruler, and your people, thinking life was better elsewhere, left your territory to worship others as their master, and later, when the masters they chose got into trouble and they had no home to return to, they now want to come back to your territory, would you accept them?"
"That’s not a big deal, is it? They can come if they want to come, they can leave if they want to leave!"
The hypothetical scenario posed by Lin Yun wasn’t really necessary; Bai Jiaojiao had been a Demon King herself, although she had always been rather laissez-faire. She didn’t care much about her subjects—if they wanted to leave, they could. After all, in the Demon Tribe, might made right, and desiring to join a better opponent was perfectly acceptable! And a King, of course, should have a generous heart.
Lin Yun then followed up with another question, "But what if their return brought disaster to your land, and since your territory has its limits and cannot support so many people, the ones who have always followed you might not survive? What would you choose then?"
"Then I definitely wouldn’t let them come back."
Bai Jiaojiao’s answer was swift and decisive; there was no need for second thoughts.
Once she answered with such finality, Black Cat and Bai Jiaojiao realized at the same time that this was the answer to the earlier question.
Black Cat looked somewhat somber as it sighed, "Hearing you put it that way, I can understand Ancestor Bai’s reasoning. But all beings in the world don’t want to die in a cage. Our kind hasn’t committed any crimes to deserve such a fate."
Bai Jiaojiao was relatively objective. It was completely rational for Elder Bai Lin not to allow the Divine Realm Inhabitants to return, and it was also reasonable for the Divine Realm Inhabitants, not willing to die within the Desolate Ruins, to want to leave. But since the two stances were in conflict, they could only rely on their own abilities.
Unfortunately, she and Lin Yun couldn’t go back; she bore the responsibility to eradicate the Divine Dependents. If the Divine Dependents were destined to bring disaster to their world, she certainly wouldn’t be lenient.
As a result, they were now trapped in this place.
The reason Black Cat was shocked was that it hadn’t expected Lin Yun and Bai Jiaojiao to end up in this eerie location.
It had thought these two were from another small world, as it wasn’t unusual for many small worlds facing imminent collapse to seek an exit, encountering void storms and taking refuge in other small worlds; this was a common occurrence.
All being inhabitants of the God Realm, people tend to be friendly toward explorers, for explorers from other divine realms are also pioneers who have left the Desolate Ruins behind.
However, facing those not from the God Realm, even the Black Cat felt somewhat uneasy.
What to do? The two groups could almost be considered arch-enemies.
Because of Ancestor Bai’s long suppression, the inhabitants of the God Realm couldn’t deal with the White Dragon, but they harbored resentment towards the world that the White Dragon protected.
Being confined for too long can unavoidably lead to grudges and a desire for revenge.
Even though not all the Divine Realm Inhabitants shared this sentiment, when it came to taking sides, they would naturally stand on a united front.
Thankfully, she had not yet revealed these details, and it could still be glossed over for now.
"Anyway, what’s past is past, and we’re just trying to find a way to survive, just like what you are doing now. You surely don’t want to be trapped in this small world forever, do you?"
As a Servant of the Gods, the Black Cat was quite quick-witted and quickly thought to temporarily ally with Bai Jiaojiao and Lin Yun, these two powerful beings.
They both seemed difficult to provoke, so better to play it safe. It would be best to seek cooperation, and who knows, they might even use their identities to escape.
If they couldn’t cooperate, then at least sending them away from the Dream Mirage Divine Realm would be a solution.
"I don’t really mind."
Bai Jiaojiao, holding Lin Yun’s hand, said, "As long as I’m with you, I’m willing to go anywhere."
Bai Jiaojiao might have her own concerns, as she still thought about Xiao Qing on the outside, but she hoped even more that Lin Yun wouldn’t worry too much and rest easy now, stabilizing his Heart Guarding Way.
If he dwelled on being trapped in the Secret Realm, feeling depressed, his Way might become even more unstable.
Upon hearing this, warmth filled Lin Yun’s heart, and he embraced Bai Jiaojiao, stroking her hair softly, and whispered, "Don’t worry, we won’t be trapped here forever."
The confidence in his words also reassured Bai Jiaojiao a bit.
Lin Yun might seem timid in handling matters, but once he was sure of something, he had yet to misjudge.
"I believe you."
Bai Jiaojiao snuggled in Lin Yun’s arms and couldn’t help but take in a few deep breaths.
The scent was somewhat intoxicating for a dragon.
Bai Jiaojiao had already met Elder Bai Lin and, according to what he said, she and the Azure Dragon were the very first Dragon Ancestors.
If not for this, Bai Jiaojiao always felt that Lin Yun might have dragon blood, certainly a dragon more formidable than herself.
But after meeting Elder Bai Lin, Bai Jiaojiao was no longer so sure.
For some reason, she felt that Lin Yun shouldn’t be beneath Bai Lin.
The Heavenly Dragon represents the pinnacle of dragonhood. According to the Black Cat, Ancestor Bai alone could suppress the Myriad Realms with the power of one dragon—such tremendous strength.
Yet Lin Yun was only in the Heart Guarding Realm now. Where was her confidence coming from?
