The Mad King's Heir
Chapter 80: I Love Him
Yu Wen stared at him for a very long moment without saying a word, making Yu Xuan feel extremely uncomfortable. He felt like Yu Wen had seen through his lies. He was so scared that he was going to crack under pressure, but he also knew he would never betray his friend no matter what.
"You are very convincing, but for a person who just lost his best friend, you seem to be having a good time," Yu Wen finally said, and Yu Xuan was shocked. He hadn’t considered this point. That’s because he didn’t think anyone would come sniffing around, especially not Yu Wen.
"People grieve differently," he replied, and Yu Wen let out a short sound of amusement. He tapped his phone, and a floating screen appeared. There were videos and pictures of him going out almost every night after Li Jun was supposedly executed. Yu Xuan clenched his jaw, realizing that he had fucked up big time.
"Your way of grieving is quite unique." Yu Wen took down the floating screen, and Yu Xuan looked away in annoyance. He had to think fast, otherwise he would blow the lid off the whole scheme. Yu Wen was the last person in the world he would want to find out about Li Jun.
"Have you been stalking me? Don’t you have better things to do with your time?" he said, feeling like he needed another drink. Dealing with Yu Wen was so exhausting. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Yu Wen sighed and said, "You should have known I would be watching you. You know how this goes."
Yu Xuan, exasperated, said, "General, he is already dead. Shouldn’t you be blowing up fireworks in celebration? Like a hero, you should be riding off into the sunset with Li Yu and live happily ever after. Yet you are here asking about a man who is long been vaporized."
His words touched Yu Wen’s sore spot. He understood why Li Jun said that. He had been the person who hated Li Jun the most, and everyone expected him to be happy, but they didn’t know the whole truth.
He could have hidden it, but if he wanted Li Jun to get the message, he had to open up to Yu Xuan. After a long period of silence, he said, "I understand why you would expect that, but things have changed."
Yu Xuan laughed, finding this version of Yu Wen amusing. Did he think he was a fool who could be deceived easily? He knew this was just a way to trick him into spilling the beans.
"I am looking for him, not for revenge or anything like that... I am looking for him because I want to apologize to him. I have wronged him for so many years, and I want to say I am sorry," Yu Wen continued, sounding so sincere that Yu Xuan’s smile froze.
He was thinking, what the fuck was going on? In the past, Yu Wen wouldn’t miss any opportunity to make Li Jun miserable. They clashed heads so much that sometimes he thought the only way this was going to end was with one of them dead.
Since Li Jun faked his death, the conflict should be over. Yes, it was over, alright, but he didn’t expect this turn of events. "General, it’s too late for apologies. He is already dead," he said before turning to leave. He didn’t want to hear anymore.
Just then, Lu Anu walked in and placed a steaming cup of coffee in front of him. She had even brought warm milk and sugar on the tray. With a smile brimming with motherly affection, she said, "Leaving already? I worked so hard to make you a cup. Finish it first."
Yu Xuan looked at the mug in front of him. How could he refuse such a face? He nodded and sat down. He added two sugars before pouring the milk into the mug. As he took a sip, Lu Anu said, "My son is in love with Li Jun."
Yu Xuan almost spat out his coffee. He coughed really hard. This pair of mother and son wanted him to choke to death. In love with who? Yu Wen in love with Li Jun? It was as ridiculous as it sounded.
Yu Wen looked at his mother, his eyes wide. Lu Anu shrugged her shoulders and said, "What? Just tell him the truth, honey. Honesty can go a long way." Her eyes seemed to say, "Trust me. I know what I am doing."
Yu Wen bit his lip and didn’t say anything. He knew she was only trying to help. Yu Xuan met his gaze and said, "She is joking, right?"
Yu Wen shook his head and said, "It’s true. I love him, which is why I am looking for him."
Yu Xuan was in disbelief. How could Yu Wen possibly be in love with Li Jun? It was unbelievable. "You!... I have been by his highness’ side for years, and each time you two met, you would do whatever it takes to make his life miserable. What love? You must be fucking joking."
"As I said, I was wrong. I misunderstood him all these years... I would like to make amends," he said, the guilt gnawing at him. Even he thought he didn’t deserve Li Jun’s grace and attention. He just wanted to give it a try.
Yu Xuan was really angry. Couldn’t he have realized this sooner? Couldn’t he have had this epiphany earlier? He clicked his tongue in annoyance and said, "Even if I knew where he is, I wouldn’t fucking tell you. You made him miserable for years, and now that he is gone, you can’t even let him live in peace. Go fuck yourself, Yu Wen."
After saying his impassioned speech, he got up from the chair, scraping the floor. Realizing he had been swearing in front of Yu Wen’s mother, he looked at her apologetically and said, "Thank you for the coffee." He scurried away in a hurry.
It was only when he stepped outside that he screamed silently. He punched the air, having realized what he had done. In his anger, he had revealed the truth. He grasped fists of his hair before swearing, "Fuck."
He tapped his phone, and soon his hovercar drove over. As soon as he got inside, he tapped Li Jun’s contact. He wanted to call him and tell him everything Yu Wen said, but he felt incredibly guilty. He fucked up big time, and now Yu Wen knew Li Jun was alive. "Shit," he swore, throwing his phone across the cabin.
