Chapter 69: date night 2

After getting their sides, Daphne got them both some wine since Donny had no opinion on the drinks.

the more he drank the fixated he became on her features. A sudden blush formed on her cheeks after they had locked eyes. She turned her head a bit and asked: "what did you do before becoming an adventurer?"

"Hired muscle. I would protect important people and help them fight off enemies when the time came."

Daphne raised her eyebrows. "It seems you’ve had quite the experience."

Donnie shrugs "it wasn’t as clean as I make it sound obviously, but it suited me for a time."

As they dug in to their meals for a few minutes, Daphne took a look at him.

Donnie was eating, occasionally locking eyes with her to see if she was enjoying the date.

’I gotta think of a way to get closer, more intimate.’

She wasn’t gonna miss this chance.

Most guys who came up to her either had too big of an ego or just too scared to approach her at all.

taking a spoon, She dipped it into her soup before pulling it out and leaning over the table.

As she did, Donnie look at her in confusion.

She chuckled. "The soup is good to me, but I need your opinion on it. Open up." She brought the spoon closer.

Donny ate the soup straight off the spoon, his heart racing. "It’s good....would you like some of mine?"

Donny was very much taken aback, but he wasn’t going to back down from such an intimate activity.

A few minutes go by with them occasionally feeding each other occasionally while chatting about their pasts. Things were going about as good as they could be.

A certain woman was not happy at all.

The woman was Macy groves. That piece of information by itself was nothing, but her uncle owned this restaurant and a few others.

The man had a vibe she did lot like. The air around him was neither noble nor elegant. The man surely didn’t know anything proper. If it were up to her, he and this woman would’ve been promptly denied at the Door.

Looking at them having a good time was the equivalent to watching two cockroaches sitting on a pile of shit. It made her blood boil.

"Seeing them like this any longer would make me queasy."

’How do I get them out of here? What would I use?’ The answer was so obvious it made Macy shake her head.

"Just harass them."

Turning back around, she walked into the kitchen area. Here their were chefs waiting on orders waiting in front of a counter with knives at the ready, people sweeping up the mess and those taking out the trash.

Since everyone was seated and nobody else seemed to be coming in, the only people working were those playing music in front of the customers.

The others seemed to be in a small group, having a fun conversation near a staff only exit of the restaurant.

A loud voice stops everyone and makes them look at her. "Everyone, I need an idea. What would be a spectacle? Something that everyone would watch?"

Everyone turned around, confused. One woman who seemed to be a new hire asked a question: " Excuse me miss, since when did we do entertainment along with the food?"

"SINCE TODAY!!" Macy snapped back at her with eyes that bore intense malice. Seeing every look at her now, she took a deep breath before answering the question she asked.

"A balance contest. I want a few of you to take out some of our signature deserts and balance them. Maybe add a few spins to it as well."

One of the employees were shocked. "B–but that’s pointless."

"Trust me. It’s all about the spectacle. Now get out there before I have to tell uncle dearest about slacking staff."

Donnie was having a good time with Daphne.

She was actually chuckling from a joke he made. Then their attention was brought to something else.

Just then the music stopped as musicians slowly began playing something else. One man in a tie announced: "tonight is a special celebratory evening, and so we will share, desert."

A group of people came out, with slices of cake to give to the guests. In the hands of one, was a full cake.

He walked around , eventually making it to Daphnes table. She looked to Donny, surprised. "Looks like they managed to remember how patrons should be treated."

The man looked as though he was going to place it on her table, but something pushed behind him. As he tumbled over and dropped the cake towards Daphne, she tried to block it.

Not feeling anything, she looked up to see Donnie who blocked it for her. "You’re quite fast. Thank you."

Donny began wiping the remains of cake from his arm. "No worries, It’s gonna take a lot more to stop me, but I feel like our date is taking a blow."

Donnie was making an effort to hide his frustration, but Daphne saw clear through it.

He was now aware that the staff was outwardly out to mess up the date he planned after taking his money. Anyone would be angry.

Macy was on top of the man she had pushed over. "I’m so sorry Rupert." Looking up, she saw Daphne angrily walking to her.

"My apologies to you as well. I’m terribly sorry.

If their is anything I may do to–"

*SPLAT*

Daphne had grabbed a fallen piece of cake, having hurled it at the lady’s face. "You can earn my forgiveness by cutting the bullshit. I don’t know what you gain from this, but if possible I hope you hated that more."

An angry glare was plastered onto Daphnes face.

"You worthless bitch!! I’ll rip you in half!"

As Macy began to get up, She was both angry and overjoyed. This cockroach dared to start a fight. if she takes legal action, her family was well off. She could easily win a lawsuit and leave this plebeian broke.

As she got close, a wall that smelled of cake got in between them. And as Macy looked into his cold eyes, She felt like she needed more effort to breathe.

After a few long second of doing nothing Donny patiently asked her with as much respect as he could muster.

"May we leave?"

——

The actual manager came out and threatened to tell her uncle if she did not stop right then, before apologizing to them. Their meals were on the house.

As they got out, Donny began apologizing.

"I didn’t know that date would go so horribly."

Daphne squinted her eyes a bit as she grabbed a nearby rag, wiping parts of his face that got smeared by cake.

"Are you kidding? That was some of the most fun I’ve had in ages. Thank you Donovan, I’ve had a great time."

Damian thought the angry expression meant the date was a bust, but she lifted him up, wiping his face with a paper towel.

"I think it suits you."

Donny shrugged. "If you say so. But I still have one more thing to show you."

"And what might that be?"

As he walked to the bridge, the night sky had beautiful stars that shown down in rays of blue and purple. He walked with his right hand entangled in her left.

Daphne leaned closer to him. Once they got to the middle of the bridge he snapped his fingers and soothing music began playing in the canal below.

Looking down, Daphne saw a bunch of man playing with all their might on their instruments.

Turning back to him, she simply leaned, pressing her chest against his. "I’ve never thought I would go on a date this weird. It wasn’t magical, but it was fun."

She leaned in closer, stealing his lips in a kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck. Time seamed to slow down for Donovan.

Eventually she pulled away. With a new coat of blush on her face she seemed more nervous than ever. "The gods know you weren’t going to do it. Ill see you tomorrow

Donny."

"Does this mean we’re together?"

As Daphne was walking away, she didn’t reply and ran faster.

Licking his lips, it was a sweet taste he couldn’t describe. "It wasn’t a no. Donny boy you did okay."
