This patient can be considered a minor episode in the career of admitting patients. Knowing there really isn't any big issue now, he's all smiles.

As for spending money on the examination, even if he wakes up after a sleep, he won't feel uncomfortable. Just go through with the checkup for the sake of health.

By around ten o'clock in the evening, the emergency center's hall finally calmed down a bit.

Normally speaking, a bit later some drunk patients might come in. Often, they are accompanied by patients from fights. What kind will come really depends on luck.

"There's nothing much going on, you can go rest for a bit. If any patients need your expertise, we'll call you," Qi Wentai said.

"That works, I need to check if Qiaoqiao is asleep," Liu Banxia nodded.

Actually, during his shift, he's also a bit worried about Qiaoqiao at home. Qiaoqiao has a playful nature. He could be asleep every day at home, if he doesn't go home, there's really no telling what time she would sleep.

When he arrived at the break room, Liu Banxia sent over a video call. It rang several times before Qiaoqiao answered.

"It's so late already, why are you sending a video call?" Qiaoqiao grumbled.

"Still trying to fool me? If you were truly asleep, could Tang Dou be so lively?" Liu Banxia asked.

"Oh dear, Tang Dou, it's all your fault... You lied, Tang Dou is lying next to me," Qiaoqiao initially wanted to blame Tang Dou, only to realize she had been caught.

"I knew you definitely weren't asleep properly. Don't stay up too late, okay? Otherwise, Yanzi has to keep you company to play around, and she's practically being a little nanny for us. We shouldn't bully her too much," Liu Banxia said.

"Should I be grateful or frustrated for this?" Yanzi's voice came through.

"Haha, it's all the same," Liu Banxia laughed.

"It's not too busy here today, how about I make you some stewed meat and cabbage for lunch tomorrow and do a barbecue for dinner? Anything else you'd like to eat?"

"Nope, we can handle breakfast ourselves." Qiaoqiao said.

"Actually, it would be nice if we can have some poached fish for dinner, Dr. Liu. Can I eat spicy food? Let's just make it ourselves, we won't use too much chili and Sichuan pepper, how about that?"

"Definitely doable, I'll let them reserve a fish when I pass by the supermarket, and we'll have it sliced for us in the evening. It's easy to make, all ingredients are ready, and we can use them twice, so the taste won't be as intense," Liu Banxia said.

Qiaoqiao gave him a satisfied look.

"I'm a bit puzzled. Usually, I don't crave spicy this much. Just a hint is enough, but recently I've been really into spicy flavors," Qiaoqiao said.

"Could it be that both of the little babies are boys? Tsk tsk, I'm getting two nephew in one go," Yanzi said.

"She's just craving it. We still don't know what the combination is," Liu Banxia said.

"Oh come on, I'm not craving anything. I'm worried you'll crave, so I'm eating with you. Let's leave it at that. Yanzi will be done in ten minutes, then we'll go to sleep," Qiaoqiao said and hung up the video.

Just like that, she's quick, anyway Liu Banxia is already used to it.

"Teacher Liu, we need you to come over. A critical car accident patient is about to be brought in, unconscious in the ambulance," Su Wenhao ran over.

"Alright, I'm heading out now," Liu Banxia nodded.

He thought he could have a peaceful night's sleep, but didn't expect such a big case to come in.

"Figured we might call you in a while, so we thought to call you out first," Qi Wentai said.

"No problem. Is it only one patient?" Liu Banxia asked.

"There's more. This patient is seriously injured, brought in first. Seems like three or four cars collided," Qi Wentai said.

At this point, the sound of the ambulance siren came through, and Liu Banxia quickly donned his surgical gown and headed out.

"Patient is 33 years old, no family medical history. Comatose after getting on the ambulance, gave oxygen, and IV fluids. Blood pressure 70/120, heart rate 110. Family has been contacted and they're on their way," the paramedic pushing the patient said.

"Room one for emergency care. Hit while crossing the road?" Liu Banxia asked.

"Trying to save some trouble, crossed over the guardrail. Nearby cars saw it, but those further back didn't. They tried to avoid but still caught him. Also crashed into four cars nearby, traffic police are on their way," the paramedic said.

"Okay, why don't they know how to follow traffic rules? Liu Yiqing, you're in charge," Liu Banxia said.

"One, two, three, move the bed. Connect the ECG," Liu Yiqing said.

"Oxygen levels 100, blood pressure 70/120, heart rate 110," the nurse said after connecting the ECG monitor.

Liu Banxia took a quick look and nodded.

Currently, the patient's situation is not too critical. Although there are numerous abrasions on his face and body, and he's in a comatose state, the preliminary assessment is still very promising.

"Blood sampling, rapid blood test, cross matching. Keep the neck collar in place for now, Xu Zhenkai will check the head injury, Zhang Pengfei will check the limbs, and I'll examine the heart, lungs, and abdomen," Liu Yiqing continued to say.

"Two lacerations on the left side of the skull, three centimeters and two centimeters," Xu Zhenkai said.

"Blunt contusions on the limbs, no obvious fractures," Zhang Pengfei also reported.

"Why not check the cervical spine?" Liu Banxia suddenly asked.

Xu Zhenkai and Zhang Pengfei were taken aback; Liu Yiqing had just said not to move the neck collar.

"The patient is currently unconscious and unable to respond regarding cervical spine condition; we'll proceed with a cervical spine CT directly," Liu Yiqing said after completing auscultation and physical examination.

"Administer 50 milligrams of fentanyl for pain relief, send for chest and pelvic X-rays, head, cervical spine, abdominal CT, and conduct an ECG," she instructed.

Liu Banxia didn't linger and walked out of the emergency room as soon as Liu Yiqing finished speaking.

Everything was done quite well with no omissions, and there was no need for him to add anything further.

The patient seemed quite lucky for now; let's see if this luck continues. The head wounds are somewhat risky.

"The patient just now is temporarily not in danger of losing life; have the others been brought in?" Liu Banxia asked as he stepped out.

"They've all come in, but from what I've heard, no one is in serious condition; it's the car that's badly damaged," Qi Wentai replied.

"They at most need debridement, then a head CT; that's about it. Such bad luck, the other vehicle probably bears significant liability, crossing lanes—it's what led to the accidents behind," he added.

"We'll see, maybe things aren't always against the motor vehicle now," Liu Banxia said.

"At the very least, this guy crossed the guardrail at night when visibility is poor. Well... There's really no saying, ultimately someone has to take responsibility," he reflected.

Their trauma patients mostly entail car accident victims and fight victims, along with other accident injuries, and most car accidents involve violations.

If pedestrians and drivers could follow traffic rules, the emergency center's work might not be so busy.

Take today's patient; if he turns out alright, he's really lucky. Not being run over multiple times in traffic is indeed fortuitous.

"Called you for nothing," Qi Wentai said.

"It's no big deal; honestly, in the hospital, it's tough for me to get to sleep early," Liu Banxia said.

"Things are better at home—finish dinner, review medical records and surgeries, usually asleep by ten o'clock. Now with fewer patients and surgeries, it's relatively relaxed,"

"Don't worry, busyness is inevitable later," Qi Wentai laughed.

"Consider it currently a slow season, and with many general surgery doctors here, it's why you have free time. Priority goes to technically skilled physicians for procedures,"

A bit more chatting, the patient's family arrived, and the X-ray and head CT images were completed.

"Not so lucky after all; call orthopedics and neurosurgery," Liu Banxia frowned after checking the computer.

From his assessment, the patient's fractures aren't severe. Though multiple fracture sites, surgery isn't needed, just rest.

But there's a hematoma in the head requiring a craniotomy to prevent life-threatening situations.

The neurosurgeon on duty tonight was Zhang Xiao, who examined the images and agreed with a nod.

"Blood test and cross matching are done, family should arrive soon, just the cervical spine and abdominal CT remain," Liu Banxia said.

Zhang Xiao glanced at him, "No peaceful sleep tonight, some fractures to check out, we'll see the cervical spine findings."

Just then, Liu Banxia received a message from Liu Yiqing: cervical spine is fine, patient has regained consciousness.

This counts as good news; next up is the abdominal CT. If issues arise there, combined abdominal and head surgery is needed, posing high risks.

Just then, Wu Mingyu arrived, carefully reviewing the images, "Nothing for me here, proceed with your rescue, then send to ICU, I'll brief them afterwards."

"It's going to be tough, at least two months for recovery, plus rehabilitation, no expectation of a full recovery under six months,"

"Alright, you take a rest now; I'll handle briefing the patient's family," Qi Wentai said.

"Going to sleep, surgeries have been quite overwhelming," Wu Mingyu said, yawning. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"Rest schedule needs adjustment; orthopedics patients are quite frequent in these two months," Liu Banxia said.

"Count on you to help out across domains. No more said—quick to head back for sleep," Wu Mingyu said, strolling off.

Grabbing rest time is crucial; it's only the evening, who knows what awaits next. Prioritizing rest is top important.

Not even a chance for further chat, commotion arose from the CT room. Liu Banxia felt a headache; this night might lack peace—the patient's family is too restless.
