Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s
Chapter 2465 - 2458: Fright
"Godmother! You go buy first, I’ll just stand here and wait for you, okay?" Ning Chenyang said.
"What are you going to do?"
"I want to watch that grandpa do magic tricks." Ning Chenyang pointed to the old man not far away.
"No way. Either we go together or we don’t go at all. What if you get lost? I can’t take that responsibility!" Yan Huan said, worried.
"Then let’s go watch the magic tricks." Ning Chenyang was more curious about how the old man could transfer something from one bowl to another than about eating.
"Alright." Yan Huan agreed, thinking it was better than eating popsicles.
If it upset their stomach, it would be much more troublesome.
When Yan Huan and Ning Chenyang reached the elderly man with grey hair, a small performance had just ended, and a crowd was dispersing.
The space in front of the old man was empty, just enough for the two of them to squat down and watch clearly.
"Grandpa, could you perform for us again? Your magic tricks are amazing!" Ning Chenyang looked at the old man with excitement.
"Sure. Since you like it, I’ll perform for you." The old man spoke kindly, but there was a very fierce scar on his face.
The scar ran across his entire face, making him look a bit frightening.
However, the old man’s face always maintained a smile, and although the scar was fierce, his face didn’t look that scary.
"Grandpa, your face..." Ning Chenyang was taken aback.
"Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid! I got this scar when I was young, trying to catch a thief, and was slashed by the thief with a knife." The old man explained to Ning Chenyang with a smile.
"Oh!"
Ning Chenyang was no longer afraid, but when Yan Huan saw the scar, suddenly a scene flashed through her mind.
The scene was so quick that before she could catch it, it disappeared.
"Child, is this your mom?" The old man asked as he arranged his props.
"Hmm." Ning Chenyang was focused on the old man’s hands and answered casually whatever the old man asked.
"Doesn’t quite look like it." The old man gave Yan Huan a smiling glance.
This smile... Yan Huan’s body stiffened, and some scenes flashed rapidly through her mind.
White moonlight, a cold yard, a winding river of blood...
She felt her breath tighten, a chill spreading across her back.
"Here, check these two balls in my hands." The old man said as he extended his hand toward Yan Huan.
"Ah!" She screamed and backed away, unexpectedly squatting on the ground.
"Godmother! What’s wrong?" Ning Chenyang was puzzled, "Are you afraid of the grandpa’s face?"
"No... it’s not..." Yan Huan shook her head repeatedly.
At this moment, Ji Chuan came back with tickets, saw Yan Huan sitting on the grass, and quickly helped her up: "Are you okay? Are you alright?"
Yan Huan’s face was pale: "Yes. I’m fine."
"You don’t look well." Ji Chuan said.
"I’m fine. I’m fine." Yan Huan dared not look at the old man’s face again and hugged Ji Chuan’s arm, "Let’s go, let’s go!"
"If you’re not feeling well, we don’t need to go on the boat. Let’s just go home, okay?" Ji Chuan saw her lips trembling, as if she was frightened.
"No. No need. Let’s take the boat. You’ve already bought the tickets." Yan Huan clung tightly to Ji Chuan’s arm.
"Yan Huan, are you scared of something? What just happened?" Ji Chuan asked, puzzled, staring at Yan Huan.
Ning Chenyang answered the question for Yan Huan: "Godmother is afraid of that grandpa! But, the grandpa didn’t do anything!"
