Chapter 214: Blessing of the Common People

Su Yurou's Blessing of All Living Beings played its greatest role at this moment.

For those County Soldiers and Yuehua Guild Awakened who were slashed by the Yellow Turban Army to below 100 HP, at the very moment they were about to fall...

The pale golden halo on their bodies lit up—+180.

Their health bars bounced back, and they stood up again. One County Soldier was struck in the chest by a Yellow Turban Strongman's club, his health plummeting to fifty points.

Blessing of All Living Beings triggered, restoring one hundred and eighty health points.

He froze for a split second, then with bloodshot eyes, he ran a spear through that Yellow Turban Strongman's belly.

An Awakened from the Yuehua Guild was surrounded by three Yellow Turban soldiers and slashed four or five times. His health dropped below a hundred points, triggering Blessing of All Living Beings. He held out alone for a full two minutes until reinforcements arrived.

But casualties still occurred. There were too many Yellow Turban soldiers. A County Soldier was cut down by a Yellow Turban Fierce General; Blessing of All Living Beings triggered, but the second slash followed immediately, and he failed to stand back up.

An Archer from the Yuehua Guild was hit in the throat by a stray arrow. Before Blessing of All Living Beings could even trigger, he had already fallen.

A Beacon Guard was surrounded by three Yellow Turban Strongmen. He pierced one with his bronze dagger-axe, but the giant clubs of the other two smashed into his head simultaneously. His helmet shattered, and he was gone.

Half an hour later, over two thousand Yellow Turban soldiers were dead.

Qingmu County lost over ninety County Soldiers, over a dozen Beacon Guards, and over a dozen Awakened from the Yuehua Guild.

Everyone was wounded. Blood on the city walls flowed down the bricks, gleaming dark red under the light of the torches.

In the rear, the two Yellow Turban Channel Chiefs finally moved.

They leapt from their horses, their figures soaring over the embers of the fire wall and landing on the city battlements.

Two Level 25 Rare Bosses, two battle-axes, and two pairs of cold eyes.

Meng Yi did not hesitate. He slanted his halberd tip and barked, "Spear Array!" Bai Yi through Bai Liu moved simultaneously. The seven of them formed a semi-circle, their halberd tips pointing in unison at the Chief on the left.

One thrust per second, lightning-fast and impenetrable.

That Chief's battle-axe parried left and right as sparks flew, yet he could not break out for a time.

Shi Pojun met the one on the right.

He slammed his tower shield into the ground, fully activating Iron Wall Stance, causing his defense to soar by thirty percent.

The battle-axe struck the tower shield with a thunderous clang. Shi Pojun took a step back, but he did not fall.

Gritting his teeth, he braced against the shield and did not retreat another inch.

Zhao Hu charged from the side, his bone-crushing greatsword slashing toward the Chief's waist.

The Chief sidestepped to avoid it and swung his battle-axe horizontally. Zhao Hu raised his blade to block and was knocked back three steps by the impact.

Tie Dun rushed in from the other side, performing a shield bash that slammed into the Chief's shoulder.

The Chief staggered, then swung an axe back. Tie Dun's shield shattered, and he was sent flying by the force.

A Wang and Scarface Liu flanked from behind, their two blades slashing toward the Chief's back simultaneously.

Without even turning his head, the Chief swept his battle-axe backward, forcing them both to retreat.

Wang Wu's arrow and Arrow Eye's arrow arrived at the same time, one aimed straight for the throat and the other for the center of the brow.

The Chief shifted his stance, tilting his head to let the throat arrow pass, while leaning back slightly so the second arrow flew right past the tip of his nose.

The two arrows vanished into the darkness behind him one after another, clattering onto the wall. He was completely unharmed.

Surrounded on the city wall, the two Chiefs endured a fierce onslaught as their health bars dropped slowly but steadily.

Two minutes later, the Chief on the left suddenly erupted—Valiant Roar!

A wave of sound radiated from his mouth. Meng Yi, Bai Yi, and the others were shaken until they were stumbling, and a gap appeared in the spear array.

The Chief took the opportunity to jump out of the encirclement, sweeping his battle-axe and cutting down two approaching County Soldiers.

The Chief on the right erupted at the same time. His Valiant Roar forced back Shi Pojun and Zhao Hu, and he slammed his battle-axe into the ground, sending stone fragments flying.

The two Chiefs glanced at each other, retreated simultaneously, and jumped down from the city wall.

They landed among the remnants of the Yellow Turban Army and, with a wave of their battle-axes, led the remaining two thousand-plus men in a retreat toward the west.

The sound of footsteps grew more distant and lighter.

The yellow turbans gradually grew smaller under the blood moon, finally disappearing into ⊛ Nоvеlιght ⊛ (Read the full story) the darkness.

The city wall was silent for a moment. Then, someone began to laugh.

It started as a low, disbelieving chuckle, then turned into loud, hysterical laughter.

Some collapsed onto the ground, while others leaned against the battlements, gasping for air.

Some wept while holding the bodies of their comrades, while others patted the shoulders of those next to them, saying, 'We won,' and 'We survived.'

Tie Dun climbed up from the ground. His shield was covered in dents and his armor was broken in several places, but a silly grin was plastered on his face.

He walked up to Feng Qingyan and gave a thumbs up: "Impressive! Truly impressive!"

Feng Qingyan leaned against the battlements, her staff propped on the ground. Her face was pale, but she smiled flamboyantly. "It's good that you know."

Zhao Hu sheathed his blade and turned to look at the plains outside the city.

The blood moon still hung in the sky, dyeing the earth a dark red.

In the distant darkness, nothing could be seen.

He let out a long breath and turned to Su Yuehua. "President Su, thank you."

Su Yuehua shook her head, her voice gentle. "It is we who should thank you.

Without Miss Su's Blessing of All Living Beings, the casualties would have been at least double."

Su Yurou sat on the steps, her blue crystal staff resting across her knees. Her face was as white as paper, but a smile touched the corners of her mouth.

She looked at the soldiers who still had faint golden halos lingering on them, at those who had been saved by Blessing of All Living Beings, and an indescribable feeling welled up in her heart.

On the city wall, some were counting the casualties while others moved the bodies.

Meng Yi led Bai Yi and the others in regrouping the Beacon Guard ranks, while Liu Ming directed the County Soldiers in clearing the battlefield.

The Awakened of the Yuehua Guild sat in small groups; some drank water, some bandaged wounds, and some silently watched the western plains.

Feng Qingyan and Feng Qingshuang stood side by side behind the battlements, their staffs leaning against the wall. Neither spoke.

Su Yuehua stood in the center of the city wall. Her snow-white robe was stained with quite a bit of blood, her silver hairpin was crooked, and several strands of hair fell across her forehead.

Yet she still stood very straight, her gaze gentle as she watched the resting Awakened. Occasionally, she would walk over and softly ask, "Is the injury serious?" or "Do you need water?"

Zhao Hu leaned against the battlements, looking out at the western plains.

The wind blew from that direction, carrying the scent of blood and char.

He withdrew his gaze and turned toward Su Yurou.

It was time to return and report the safety of the territory to the Lord.

...

Outside the East Gate of Crescent Moon Territory.

The blood moon hung overhead, dyeing the entire plain dark red.

The wind blew from the west, carrying a thick scent of blood and char.

Smoke still rose from the corpses on the ground, scattered weapons were stuck in the soil, and yellow turbans fluttered slightly in the wind.

The bodies of two Yellow Turban Channel Chiefs lay side by side in pools of blood.

One had his chest pierced through, a hole the size of a bowl still oozing blood;

The other had a long, thin wound on his throat, and his blood had already run dry.

Two battle-axes had been tossed aside. Their blades were full of notches, and their handles were stained with blackish-red blood, slowly beginning to vanish.
