STRIKER: Independent Beast Tamer
Chapter 817: Part 1: Killers in the Shadows
Head Office
Both of us came to see Head Harold. He was in the office waiting for us. We greeted him before sitting on the chairs opposite him.
Harold raised his eyebrows and looked at them. He noticed Melinda’s expression first. She seemed alright.
He nodded his head before looking towards Jeremy Night. He found that the kid looked excited.
He was already ready for the mission, no matter how dangerous it looked. He sighed inwardly.
He then said, "I’m glad that you guys are ready to do the mission. Here is the mission..."
He started talking about the deadly ridge. Melinda raised her eyebrows in surprise. She was not ignorant.
She had grown up here. She knew about the wilderness. She knew how many dangerous places there were in the wilderness.
The black ridge was one of those dangerous places. She then shifted her gaze towards Jeremy Night. She found out that Jeremy Night was completely clueless.
She was taken aback. She then looked towards Head Harold.
"Head, are you serious?"
"The deadly ridge is dangerous. What are we going to do there? Even the corrupted beasts won’t live in that place," Melinda said in a serious tone.
She didn’t know what was with Head Harold.
Jeremy was stunned. He was hearing the name for the first time. He thought a lot of deaths must have happened in that place. He seemed to be right as well.
Harold smiled and said, "I’m giving you this mission because I want you to teach this kid. He still doesn’t know about the wilderness yet."
"There are some places which need to be avoided. We just had a Beast Tide recently. In the future, the situation could become more dangerous."
"Before such a thing can happen, I want Jeremy Night to know the ins and outs of the wilderness. So that he can escape from any situation," Harold added.
He sounded legit and serious.
Jeremy’s eyes flashed with a glint. He had asked for a mission, but he didn’t expect Head Harold to have such a plan.
"So you guys have to study the place. Melinda, I want you to teach him about the place. There are some deadly plants that grow over there," Harold said once again.
This time Melinda didn’t ask many questions. She agreed.
"We will be careful," Jeremy said.
10 minutes later,
Jeremy and Melinda exited the building and approached the driver outside. They talked to him before entering the car.
We both sat down in the back of the car.
Shortly afterwards,
The car departed from the place. It left the area and joined the air lane. The car moved behind the other cars.
Jeremy Night was in the car. He was watching the scene outside through the window. He was using his eye power.
Right after leaving the main gate, he spotted a few suspicious people who paid attention to the car. He thought they could be spies belonging to other forces.
Jeremy knew that trouble could follow them into the wilderness. He also knew Darkshade killers could come at him again.
He wore a serious expression. If he were alone, he wouldn’t think too much. But Sister Melinda was with him now. He had to protect her as well.
He didn’t know why Head Harold made such arrangements. Head Harold was aware of the fact that he had killed a Tier-6 Beast Tamer of the Hill family.
So he had threats not only from the Darkshade Killers but from the Hill family as well. He really didn’t know what to say.
10 minutes later,
The car reached the main gate. The main gate area was not quiet; it was busy. Beast Tamers were coming in and going out.
It showed that the place was coming back to normal. The driver landed the car near the platform.
We then walked out. My gaze swept across the place. I had the feeling that someone was watching us.
He used his zoom-in vision and it didn’t take long for him to find the culprits. Tier-4 Beast Tamers in the distance were looking at us.
They were standing outside the Beast Taming Shop.
Melinda turned and saw Jeremy Night looking somewhere. She followed his gaze and saw those suspicious people.
She frowned. She didn’t make any comments immediately.
"Let’s go," she said.
Hearing that, Jeremy Night recovered his thoughts and started following her. Both of them started walking towards the guards.
They both showed their IDs before entering the wilderness. Melinda took the lead and started guiding the way forward.
Jeremy didn’t speak. He quietly followed her, but he used his eye power to watch the surroundings.
If anyone made a move, he would know immediately.
Melinda found something amiss as well. But she didn’t ask anything. She thought Jeremy Night would tell her when the time was right.
Meanwhile,
The spies of the Hill family moved. They reported to the Head of the Beast Taming Family. Robert Hill heard the news.
He had already arranged a team. He immediately sent orders to them. He wanted them to enter the wilderness right away.
A team of Tier-5 Beast Tamers and a single Tier-6 Beast Tamer reached the main gate. Then they entered the wilderness.
Before them, there were already people keeping watch. They immediately contacted the team and shared the coordinates.
Soon, the team started going towards the location.
On the other hand, Robert Hill didn’t stop there. He immediately phoned and informed the higher-ups of the Darkshade Organisation.
The organisation had already failed three times. If they failed a fourth time, he would be pissed off.
So Robert Hill made it clear that he wanted the young man Jeremy Night dead. The higher-ups of the Darkshade members felt ashamed.
Robert Hill was making them angry. They assured him that they were going to complete the mission this time.
Once the call ended, the Darkshade higher-ups sent a team of killers to the wilderness.
This time the killing team was composed of Tier-6 Beast Tamers and a single Tier-7 Beast Tamer.
The team was enough to kill high-tier beasts. It was a bit of overkill to eliminate a Tier-3 Beast Tamer.
