Chapter 28: The saviour of Humanity

"Humanity is on the verge of destruction and you are the only one who can save it!"

The president’s voice was filled with resolve, solemnness and confidence.

Amon subconciously took a step back in shock from the principal’s words.

The president continued.

"Although humanity seems relatively safe, that’s far from the case.

"Nexus didnt just bring about so many benefits without having it’s cons. This barrier you see, is the barrier protecting humanity from what’s outside.

"We’ve discovered that after nexus was introduced into this world, it expanded many times over, bringing about the birth of terrifying creatures, most from other planets and some that have long hidden themselves within our world."

Amon’s pupils shrank considerably at the president’s words.

"What you see here are many of the weaker races that have surrounded the barrier for years, slamming into it endlessly. We dont know how much longer this barrier will last as such we can only live out the rest of our days in fear of the unknown"

Staring at the principal, amon was slightly taken aback.

For someone with the ability to control time to be saying this...

He found it hard to believe. The creatures he saw couldnt be as terrifying as he guessed right?

The president let out another drawn out sigh, guessing what amon was thinking.

He waved his hand and another video was displayed.

A group of seven could be seen standing together.

The pressure they exuded was immense.

Surprisingly, they walked towards the barrier without fear.

"Humans can walk out from the barrier and return, however other races are restricted from entering."

The president’s voice drifted over.

He continued watching.

The group of seven continued at an even pace and began using their terrifying skills to destroy all the beasts in their paths including goblins, apes, demons, wolves and much more.

However, suddenly, a streak of light passed.

Bang!

The head of one of the seven exploded.

Bang!

Another silver light and the head of another one exploded

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound continuously echoing, making one’s spine tingle.

In the blink of an eye, all seven were dead.

Until the end of the recording, no one knew what had killed the seven!

The president’s tired voice echoed once more.

"This is the biggest mistake of my life..."

"President..." the principal tried to protest, however jared waved his hand.

"Its alright. The boy needs to know."

"I know you might be curious as to why we need your help. Well, the reason is because you are an unranked talent, just like the seven."

Seeing Amon’s furrowed brow, the president explained smoothly.

"Normally, within nexus, one can continously level up indefinitely... however... do you know that the leveling isnt actually indefinite?"

Hearing the president’s words amon was stunned. He had never read about this in any of the forums.

There was a limit to how much one could level up within nexus?

Did that mean the game had an end?

"No. The game doesnt have an end. Far from it, however. We’ve come to believe that nexus might actually be an alternate reality.

The reason one’s leveling up stops is all due to the rank of their talent.

At S-rank the highest you can reach is level 80, becoming an angel within the game.

An SS-rank talent can only reach level 90, the rank of a demi-god.

Meanwhile, an SSS-rank talent can only reach level 100, the realm of gods."

Hearing the president’s explanation amons’ heart shook slightly.

He was merely at level 5, a completely small fry in the game!

The president noticed his explanation and smiled.

"You didnt ask my what this has to do with your talent being unranked."

He didnt wait for amon to ask him and quickly offered an explanation.

"Because your talent is unranked, we have vague theories that the god rank isnt your limit. In fact, nothing is. Unranked talents can go on to reach level 200, level 500, level 1000 and even much more levels that we cannot fathom."

Amon’s heart thundered in his chest...

Unranked talents were... this terrifying?

He stared at the president to confirm if he was stating the truth, to which jared offered him a reasurring smile.

"Those seven from before had reached level 200 within nexus and didnt seem to be approaching their limit."

His voice was tinged with regret as he spoke.

"They said they wanted to help humanity to erase their threat upon them and I... I allowed them..." this was the decision he regreted the most, letting those group of 7 actually head beyond the barrier!

"We believe that whatever is beyond the barrier is at most at level 500..."

Amon’s pupils shrank.

Level 5... level 500...

He laughed lightly...

It soudned like a joke. There was no way in hell he would reach such a level.

Jared stood up and raised his hand to amon’s shoulder.

"You are the only unranked talent humanity has left. The mission to protect humanity falls on your shoulders. Ushering humanity into the age of light is your new purpose."

"I’m sorry for placing such a burden on you. But our time is running out and we have no other choice."

Amon could sense the regret in the president’s words. However he found it hard to wrap his head around.

The whole situation was too overwelming for him.

’I came here to get an extraction stone for crying out loud’ amon didnt know whether to laugh or cry at his new predicament.

It was like jumping from frying pan to fire.

After briefly excaping the calamity he had back at home, he’d come face to face with reality.

’My life is truly interesting huh... its almost like a novel...’

"I know this is too much for you to absorb for now." The president stared into amon’s eyes and said solemnly.

"The association is going to pour all of its resources to leveling you up in the shortest time possible, taking the shortest route to complete missions and organising countless beast hordes in order you obtain the fast levelling speed possible."

"You might want to take things slowly. But humanity can no longer wait."
