SSS Awakening: Starting With Infinite Soul Copy
Chapter 39: Combat Class
"Interesting,"
White mused to himself, looking at the battle stage, which was now divided into twelve stages by barriers, and now had twelve ongoing fights.
In each barrier were two students engaged in battle.
Psychics were weird fighters, White knew that much.
While physically enhanced awakeners could suddenly turn their skin to iron and throw devastating punches, most psychics weren’t like that.
They used their minds and most of them had inexplicable powers.
Powers that needed an external source to be used.
Most psychics’ combat ability was mostly telekinetic, but for that to happen they needed something to throw with their mind.
That was why they usually opt for weapons like knives or even swords, but taken under such suddenness, none of them came prepared to fight another student.
This made most of them unable to use their telekinesis and now they were slugging it out like any human would.
With their fists!
And naturally, since psychics use their mind not their body, they all naturally sucked in physical battles.
That made 8 of the 12 fights simple fist fights, and weirdly enough, each student seemed to only have a little better physical combat power compared to the other, leaving no single clear winner.
Many laughed at the sight of it, the one laughing the most being none other than the combat instructor who White easily deemed a master at rage baiting.
He walked around, easily phasing through each barrier as he stood before a student, pointing and mocking him, even as the poor dude was getting choked to half to death.
None of this was fair to Psychics, but White could understand the Battle Instructor’s thinking.
This combat class wasn’t a way for students to flex their abilities.
It was a way to turn them into fighters even without them holding an obvious weapon or using telekinesis.
As this was the first class, it was probably to make each student understand how truly weak they were if they weren’t prepared for a fight and slowly, the laughs that filled the hall were slowly reducing as each student was made to fight.
And obviously, they came back more silent.
Even those who won had their faces swelled up from their opponents’ fighting, not having won in the heroic way they expected in their head.
But not every student was naturally weak in a fight.
Some were insanely strong,
And one of those fights that White watched was a fight with Rukun involved.
He had thought anyone made to fight that boy would just end up sliced up but he was proven deadly wrong, and the instructor was right of pairing those who are just as strong as the other.
"Next Fight!"
"Rukun Malevolent Vs Inumaki Horaga!"
The instructor called out and the hall fell silent. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
There were no other fights happening on the battle stage and they all watched as all barriers put up before were slowly put down, making the stage even wider.
Confident as ever, Rukun rose to his feet, with a grin that reached his ear.
He didn’t walk down.
The stadium ground shook as he bounced up from where he sat, soaring through the air before descending onto the battle stage with a heavy
BOOM!
Everyone looked around for who his opponent, Inumaki Horaga was, but they were shocked speechless when they found a second person already standing on the stage.
"What the!?"
"How did he get there!?"
They wondered in confusion, but White eyes were focused.
"Teleportation."
He mused quietly.
Inumaki had faded and then reappeared on the battle stage a second before Rukun was able to land on the stage.
"BEGIN!"
The instructor shouted out loud, and Rukun’s hands whipped his crimson hair back before proceeding to crack his bones in preparation.
Only after did he look forward, and there before him was his opponent whose hands remained in his pockets.
Raven dark hair with raven dark eyes without the slightest white.
Just standing before him made Rukun feel an inexplicable chill in his spine.
"Your name was number 1 all through the first two days of the test. I bet you must have killed a quarter of the trial takers for that."
"A pity that Gustav took the first ranking from you on the third day."
Rukun mocked with a callous grin.
It seemed to get through the boy as his hands slowly came out of his pocket.
"And trash like you feel like you can judge? In my world, you don’t even exist."
RIIIIIIP!
A droning sound echoed that made most students’ hands reach for their ears from the loudness.
Even though White’s ears were burning, he didn’t try to cover his ears at all; instead, his eyes remained peeled open, unblinking for what came next.
A pitch-black line around a meter in length suddenly appeared above Inumaki’s head.
Dark mist spilling out and a bloody stench spread out from it filling the hall.
In the next moment, cracks spread from the vertical line as space fractured into nothing, then something massive tore out.
"Is that..."
White mused, heart pounding in his chest.
His realization was confirmed as a gigantic claw of pitch darkness emerged, its massive, scythe-like fingers dripping with unmistakably human blood.
"An Otherworld Summon!?"
White mused, numbed beyond belief.
Amongst psychics, some were referred to as cursed.
Psychics who can delve into imaginations beyond earthly reality, bringing out creatures from their deepest nightmares.
He had heard of them and seen one in his past life.
The man was a commander of the United Earth Federation, on White’s side of the battlefield.
When he brought out his otherworld summon, it made a single move, and half the entire battlefield was gone in a blink.
That scene was forever imprinted in White’s head, and yet, here was another Otherworld summoner before him.
"So, you’re indeed from the Horaga Family, hahaha!"
Rukun said with crackling laughter as Inumaki slowly raised his hands up, pointing right at Rukun.
"There’s your food."
He said, and in the next moment,
BOOOOOM!
A one-meter-deep crater was blown into where Rukun stood, a part of the battle stage reduced to nothing in a flash.
"Holy fickoly!"
