Chapter 282: The Umbrawyrs Brilliance (I)

White said nothing for about a minute, his eyes simply remaining fixed upon the nearest UmWhiroJet.

The template that he had actually given them to try and create was simply a Human jet. A Human Space jet, to be exact, and the reason for needing one was simple.

If he planned to bring a thousand Umbrawyric Warriors to Earth, it simply felt better to travel there this way than to have them walk all the way to Earth, and then all the way back again.

But these...

Calling any of these a jet felt almost insulting.

The shape was now completely unrecognizable:

The elongated body, the swept wings, the forward cockpit section.

All of it had evolved into something else entirely.

The creation stretched over seven hundred meters in length, its body forged from a dark metallic substance that seemed less like metal and more like frozen night itself.

There were no visible seams, rivets, or engines.

The entire vessel existed as one flawless structure covered in millions of microscopic runic formations that constantly shifted beneath the surface, rearranging themselves with every passing second.

With his precise observation, he could see that those runes were far from simple decoration.

In essence, each of them altered reality in a different way.

Some of the runes he recognized immediately.

There were runes designed to reduce friction, others that bent gravity itself, and still others that compressed space.

Others overwrote kinetic force and redirected it straight into the vessel itself to further aid its movement.

And some White couldn’t even identify their purpose.

The wings were equally massive, larger than any White had ever seen, and it wasn’t because they were required for flight.

Instead, they functioned as colossal law arrays, each segment containing layers upon layers of runic circuitry.

There didn’t seem to be a cockpit anywhere within.

It had vanished completely.

The specific detail caused White’s brows to furrow slightly, and Ludinger was quick enough to notice.

"The cockpit had to go."

Ludinger said immediately, tapping his staff against the floor.

"When we first studied your design, King MadWhite, we found it rather fascinating."

"The pilot sat inside and manually controlled the vessel through buttons, levers, and screens."

The old Umbrawyr paused.

"A remarkably primitive solution expected of a lower hierarchical race."

White’s eyelid twitched slightly at the choice of words, but the old Umbrawyr continued without noticing.

"The delay alone was unacceptable by our standards."

"Every command required thought, then movement, then mechanical response. A lot of processes that do nothing but slow down the entire operation."

"So instead of following that approach, we asked ourselves a question."

He paused dramatically.

"Instead of moving your hand to steer a vessel, is there a way for the vessel itself to simply become your hand?"

"The answer to that was the Throne Core."

He said pointing toward the center of one of the UmWhiroJets, and deep within its hull, countless runes briefly illuminated revealing a throne-like seat.

It was the only one of its kind, sitting at the center of a vast pitch-black chamber.

"It’s a living command nexus forged from Neural Runes, Soul Synchronization Laws, and Spatial Consciousness Weaving."

Umbra Ludinger began explaining.

"The moment one sits upon the throne, the vessel binds itself directly to the nervous system."

"Not hands, muscles, or voice, but directly to your thoughts."

"And even that concept eventually became obsolete."

White raised an eyebrow.

Having thoughts pilot the vessel already sounded like a massive improvement.

Yet they still considered that obsolete.

"The superior creation wasn’t piloting the vessel with thoughts."

"It’s becoming the vessel itself."

"To have every sensor becomes your eyes, every scanner becomes your senses, every weapon becomes your fingers, every defensive array becomes your skin, and every engine becomes your legs."

"Upon sitting upon the throne, the UmWhiroJet ceases to be a machine and instead becomes an extension of the user’s existence."

"You will be it."

He gave a small cough before adding,

"Truthfully, after completion, several engineers became disappointed."

White glanced toward him.

"Why?"

"Because they realized that if the Throne Core functions correctly, the King may eventually forget he is sitting inside a vessel at all."

Ludinger pointed toward the colossal UmWhiroJet.

"To your mind, it will simply feel as though your body has suddenly become seven hundred meters long and capable of crossing galaxies."

The old Umbrawyr spread his arms dramatically.

"A proper royal transportation method."

White gave a quiet eye roll at the old umbrawyr’s antics before shifting his gaze lower.

The hull itself seemed to be distorting vision.

Not necessarily because of camouflage, but because the space surrounding the vessel was being continuously folded inward.

The ship appeared to physically occupy one location while simultaneously existing across several others.

His eyes shifted toward the rear, and he noticed there were no thrusters, or any visible propulsion system.

Only seven floating black rings orbiting behind the vessel, each ring possessing thousands of runes rotating along its circumference.

"We call them the Void Devour Engines."

Umbra Ludinger spoke proudly, pointing toward the rings.

"As you know, King MadWhite, your original template design had the vessel using fuel."

"It’s a concept we found quite amusing, but we thought of something better."

He said, pointing toward the wings, and White, with narrowed eyes, completed the sentence.

"Runic inscriptions that consume distance itself."

Ludinger’s grin widened.

"Exactly, King MadWhite."

"The ship does not travel from one location to another."

"It removes the space between those locations."

"That’s... hmm."

White paused, humming quietly at the end.

For the first time, Ludinger noticed the light in the King’s eyes.

He looked genuinely impressed by the Void Devour Engines.

The sight nearly made Ludinger’s heart explode from excitement, and he quickly continued.

"We also integrated defensive measures."

He waved his staff.

One UmWhiroJet suddenly vanished, only to reappear several kilometers away.

But then the five vessels became eight.

Then they split again and became five.

Then split once more until eleven different vessels appeared.

All seemingly identical copies.

"Spatial mirages?"
