Space Odyssey: Spectre
Chapter 570: Captured?
Jace removed his helmet as they walked toward the group that was standing at the edge of a ridge with a space craft behind them. "What’s this?" He nodded at West as he spoke in his galaxy’s language. "I heard there was a complication."
"Who are they?" Victor asked as he nodded at the two women and the visible lizard.
"The lizard is called Gaz. The woman riding the lizard is called Liz and the woman who looks like she ate a bad piece of fruit is called West. West is part of the local government that has been tracking us down. Liz and Gaz I met soon after I landed, they had to run because the government wants Gaz." Jace explained to him as they moved to join them.
"We have no clue. We do not even know why you wanted us to bring these two." Shinobi answered as he nodded at Liz and Gaz.
"Curiosity. Besides, I wanted to check something. But for now we should get started. What does West want?" Jace asked as he nodded at West.
"To help... apparently." Valkyrie answered.
"Okay, take the ship. Tell Cain that he should keep an eye on the imperial ship’s communications. I will broadcast a signal when I am ready. As well as instructions." Jace materialized his storage box.
"Hey just so you know. This person called West can speak our language." Shinobi pointed out.
Jace frowned but shrugged. "It is probably the Archivist’s doing. Go ahead and take your things and Valkyrie..." He pulled out a large container and handed it to her. Inside was a semi-clear liquid. "Give this to Shilla if she does not want to discuss what happened with the blackhole. If she needs further evidence she can find it in the book in that bag." He nodded at the bag Liz had.
"What exactly was the reason you dragged me here?" Liz asked as Jace dematerialized the storage box.
"I need a local with some experience with the underworld." Jace explained.
"How do you know I would have that kind of experience?" Liz asked. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"I can tell this sort of thing. Now all of you head out. Cain sent me an encrypted message already, telling me that he has the ship out and flying already. There is enough room for all of you and then some." Jace explained as he grabbed West’s shoulder. "Get the translation program from Victor. West is taking me to her leaders. Victor will explain the reason once you are in orbit."
"Why do you want to see my leaders?" West asked as the others quickly filtered into the waiting ship. He had already gotten information on the spacecraft. It was a smuggler’s ship that he paid to have dropped off here. It was their transport into orbit since the ship that they built could not stand up to going in and out of this planet’s atmosphere.
"Because I need to discuss something with them." Jace answered as the ship fired and started taking off. "I suggest you give them a call." He told her as his gear dematerialized.
West frowned and pulled out a communicator before sending a message. "How did you do that? Where did all that stuff go?" She asked as she turned to him. He was back in the simple black t-shirt with combat pants and boots. She looked him up and down with a twitch in her eyes. "Are you taller... and buffer?"
Jace raised an eyebrow and then looked at his own body before humming. "Possibly. Actually probably. I think I have gotten used to this planet’s gravity. It was a useful method of growth I will have to remember for later."
West sighed, "I got distracted by your body. You did not answer my first question." She pointed out as she moved to the edge of the ridge and sat down.
"I didn’t answer on purpose. I am not going to give you information so you can get a technological jump on your enemies." Jace declared with a chuckle as he moved to sit next to her and watched as the sun began rising in the distance. "I have been keeping my ear to the ground. But I do not know all the places on this planet so how badly have they lost?"
"The Southern Islands were lost. The Western Continent was gone, but then it came back and appeared to almost grow. But they do not have people to spare to check on it. Especially since there are no rebels there, only survivors. Then there is the Northern Continent." West pointed back at the continent and then nodded at the land in front of her. "The shoreline increased which can both be a problem and a good thing."
"In this case it is a bad thing since you do not have enough backup and it gives the rebels a better area to stand on. If you had more troops you could use it to your benefit." Jace pointed out with a chuckle.
"You... infiltrated our military network." West sighed. "That means you know that we are not just about to lose this planet but several ones and possibly control of this system. Why are you coming willingly if you already know that this current regime is about to fall?" West asked as she looked at him.
Jace smiled at her then looked at the sky. "It looks like your people are coming. That is quite fast for a nation that was not expecting it. Unless of course..." He trailed off.
"They had a unit coming or waiting in low orbit to come pick us up." West grunted out as she pulled herself up. "We need to get our story straight. How about your friends left already by the time I got here and you were just waiting?"
"That works." Jace answered as he stood up and looked at the ship as it landed near them. The rear opened up and a bunch of people in combat gear came running over with their weapons drawn and surrounded them both as best they could.
"Sergeant West and Gladiator. You are both being detained. Gladiator, by order of the prince regent of this empire you will tell us everything you know. Sergeant West, you are suspected of working with the rebels." One of them announced as soldiers stepped forward and put a pair of cuffs on both of them.
"What!?!" West was confused but Jace just chuckled quietly. This was going to be more entertaining than he thought it would be. One of the soldiers also started taking her gear off her. Everything from her communicator to her weapon.
They then started pushing them to the ship. "You took too long to track them down." The soldier explained. "Now... finally, you will die for your transgressions when we return to the ship. Always the smartest in the fleet. The mighty Sherlock and West will soon die because someone outsmarted them."
"To be fair. The intellect of your galaxy is lacking in comparison to the one we come from." Jace answered honestly as he followed them onto the ship with West following after him. As soon as they were all on the ship the rear started closing and they moved him to a chair to hold him.
He could feel the ship started taking off. "For someone who is smarter than everyone else, you did something really dumb by surrounding yourself. Take the samples that the prince wanted. He wants to use his genetics to create clone soldiers." The soldier in charge ordered a pair of soldiers marked with a red cross.
Apparently a red cross was universal in its meaning for doctors. They moved forward and pulled out a device. It was clearly used to extract blood. They stepped toward him and grabbed Jace’s arm to steady it so they could pull blood. But Jace ran a pulse of electricity through them. Not enough to kill them, but enough to knock them out.
They collapsed and the ship went quiet as the gravitational pull then pulled them down into their seats. "What the hell was that?" West asked.
"I did not consent to having my blood taken." Jace answered with a shrug.
The leader of the soldiers stepped towards Jace and pulled his sidearm, shoving it in Jace’s face. "Do that again and I will kill you! Is that understood?" The man yelled at Jace.
Jace frowned. Then through the gun that was pressed against his forehead he pulled the electricity out of the leader of these soldiers. The guy fell to the ground, dead. The soldiers around them flinched and pointed their weapons at Jace. "Don’t worry, the medics are dead. Although, your boss is dead. You should probably call that in." He told them with a smile that clearly disturbed them.
"How did you kill him with a touch?" West asked, sounding a mix of awed and aroused.
"It is easy where I come from." Jace answered with a chuckle. "I could have done something far more flamboyant if I wanted to."
