Sinner System
Chapter 659: Don’t Know Where to Start
Point-of-View: Ariella Velle

Okay, just...just stay calm. No big deal, it’s just a conversation, I can handle it.
Nope, it’s no use, I just can’t seem to compose myself. Why is this so nerve-wracking?
Come to think of it, when Kai my family a while back, he was pretty nervous too. My grandma and aunt, who raised me after my parents died, wanted to meet him, and I was surprised by how on edge he was.
I mean, yeah, I’ve heard that people tend to struggle when meeting their partner’s parents and family, but I didn’t really understand it.
I definitely get it now, though, I’m irrationally tense and nervous right now.
Well, no choice but to suck it up and get through it. I can handle this, I’ve got this...
I took a deep breath and let out a slow exhale, before opening the Pocket Dimension and stepping outside, Kai’s mom glancing back at me as I shut the portal and approached her.
"Um, hi. What did you want to talk to me about?" I greeted her, doing my best to keep my composure.
"There’s no need to be so tense, dear. Just relax, take it easy," She smiled, giving me a pat on the head.
"Okay..."
"Hm, looks like that’s easier said than done, huh? Well, I suppose it’s only natural. I hope this puts your mind at ease...I don’t have anything specific that I want to talk to you about, I just wanted to take the opportunity to get to know you. And to start with, I’d like to thank you, for loving and caring for my son. I can’t put into words how glad I am that he found someone like you," She remarked with a grateful smile, bowing her head to me.
"No, you don’t have to do that. Come on, raise your head...Kai is nothing but caring and affectionate towards me, so it’s only natural that I’d respond in kind. If anything, I should thank you.
It’s because of you that he reincarnated in the same era as me. If it wasn’t for you, I would never have met him in the first place. Meeting him was, without question, the best thing that’s ever happening to me, I don’t care what I lose so long as I still have him. So, thank you."
"You don’t have to thank me for that. After what he went through, that was the least I could do," She replied with a shake of her head, a hint of guilt in her eyes.
I guess she feels partially responsible for what Kai’s father put him through.
"That wasn’t your fault though, you were just as much a victim as Kai was. I can’t imagine how tough it must have been, to be betrayed like that," I responded sympathetically.
"Yeah, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t. I really did love my ex-husband before I died...he wasn’t the bravest guy, but he seemed like a good person. But evidently, I was wrong. It was scary, how quickly the love I held disappeared after I found out what he did. My death aside, I’ll never forgive him for making Kai suffer," She remarked icily, clenching her fists.
"Same here. I was so angry when Kai first told me about his past life. It made me wish that his father was still alive, so that I could kill him myself," I admitted with a grimace.
"Well, you never know...between reincarnation and different worlds, he might be out there somewhere in the multiverse. Huh, come to think of it, I never asked Samsara what happened to him after his death, so it’s possible that he reincarnated somewhere with his memories intact, like I did," She mused thoughtfully.
"Yeah, maybe. But I suppose it’s a moot point. It’s not like we have any way to freely travel between worlds as things stand.
And even if we did, there’s no telling which world he ended up in. And unlike you and Kai, maybe he didn’t keep the same appearance," I pointed out.
"True. Furthermore, it’s a lot more likely that he didn’t reincarnate. Hm, talking about him is getting me all moody and irritated. Let’s change the subject, shall we?" She suggested with a wry smile.
"Sure, no objections here."
"Let’s see, what to talk about...oh, tell me, what exactly do you like about Kai?" She asked me curiously. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"That’s a tough one to answer, I don’t know where to start. He’s always attentive and affectionate, super caring and loving towards me. I like it when he pats my head, that feels really nice.
I also like that we have a lot of the same interests and hobbies, I’m never bored when I’m around him, we’re almost always on the same page.
Oh, he always gets my opinion whenever making any decisions that affect the both of us. I really, really appreciate that about him, especially the way he never makes a big deal out of it, he’s so casually thoughtful and considerate.
And, also, not to sound shallow, but he’s pretty easy on the eyes. Which makes it a nice bonus that he and I aren’t going to age, thanks to our immortality," I grinned in response.
"Well, now, you’re certainly honest, aren’t you?" She smiled in amusement.
Huh? Oh, crap, maybe I gushed a bit too much. Well, at least I didn’t mention anything explicit, that definitely would’ve been TMI.
"S-Sorry, I couldn’t help it, I just rattled off without thinking twice about what I was saying," I replied sheepishly.
"You don’t need to apologize for that, I appreciate that you feel so strongly about him. By the way, what are your thoughts on getting married to him?" She inquired.
"Hm...I mean, I’ve got nothing against it, I just don’t see what difference it’ll make. Besides a change in label and the legal stuff, will it really change anything?" I shrugged, after taking a moment to mull it over.
"Hah, Kai said something very similar. So, I’ll give you the same thought exercise I gave him. How do you think you’ll feel when you switch from calling him your boyfriend to your husband?"
"Hm...my husband, huh...," I muttered, closing my eyes and picturing it.
Heh...hehe...
"I’ll take that goofy grin to mean that you find the idea appealing," She chuckled in amusement.
