She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!
Chapter 488 - 487: Infinite Stream Cannon Fodder: Five Days of Class 5
Seeing the naive and innocent adventurer looking awkward, everyone shook their heads.
Such naivete, it’s a wonder how they survived till now.
"I just didn’t react in time," Ruan Xiao scratched his head, feeling quite embarrassed, "I’m just lucky, haven’t bought a Resurrection Card yet, should be able to survive a few more rounds."
Everyone realized that no matter what they talked about, it was hard to find the monster, so they didn’t push further.
Having gotten used to the class rhythm, they weren’t afraid of making mistakes, as long as they humbly accepted the teacher’s criticism, standing through class was fine. Getting called to the office, however, was unsettling. Anyone who had been called to the office was extremely nervous, deciding in their hearts to be extra cautious when sleeping, having already bought their Resurrection Cards just in case of any unexpected incidents. They hoped to use other tools to get through crises, continuing to stay here.
Once eliminated, even if they revive with the Resurrection Card, there would be no rewards, making it all for nothing.
To survive in such rounds, one must continually earn rewards.
The afternoon classes went smoothly until the very last session when the literature teacher suddenly called out the names of two students: "Li Chen, Ruan Xiao, help the teacher grade papers after dinner."
Ma Qin and Bai Qiaoqian glanced at Ah Chen, not too worried; she was a pro, not a simple character.
"We’ll wait for you in the office then," Bai Qiaoqian said, thinking it safer to stick with the pro, despite the uncertainty about the others being monsters.
Ah Chen didn’t refuse. Bai Qiaoqian’s way of whimpering to others was none of her business—it was their freedom as long as they didn’t bother her; after all, they hadn’t done anything bad.
Grouping together was fine.
Ma Qin didn’t object to Bai Qiaoqian’s words.
As for Ruan Xiao, the class’s naive sweetie, only got called due to his role as the literature class representative.
They had a joyful dinner, thanks to finding tasty food. On the way to the office, Ruan Xiao quietly said to Ah Chen and the others, "You guys are adventurers, right? It’s just my intuition. There’s no one else in the office, just us, so we should avoid being marked."
Ma Qin kept her distance from Ruan Xiao, frowning. Even though she despised men, she couldn’t afford disconnecting in a world like this. She couldn’t just avoid teaming up and abandon the round, which would be suicide.
She still wanted to revive.
"We are definitely adventurers," Bai Qiaoqian said, "but monsters could also resemble us; it’s hard for others to tell."
"If we really were monsters, wouldn’t you be afraid?" Ah Chen asked.
Ruan Xiao took a few steps away from them, then came back, shrugged: "Even if I’m scared, I have to face it, right?"
"How did you die?" Ruan Xiao asked again. He seemed to be quite chatty, maybe because he’d never encountered anything terrible due to his luck, he maintained this innocence.
"I didn’t die," Ah Chen replied with a smile, a revelation Bai Qiaoqian and Ma Qin were already aware of, so they weren’t surprised.
They always found something peculiar about Li Chen and Huo Jingchen, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly what.
Ruan Xiao was shocked: "You came here to help someone? Is that person your relative?"
"Not really a relative."
Seeing Ah Chen unwilling to elaborate, Ruan Xiao tactfully dropped the subject.
Once in the office, confirming it was just them, he distributed the papers for grading.
Then he said, "I died due to a man-made accident. At the time, I also attempted to summon people close to me, but as you can guess, even if I’m well-liked, finding someone to risk their life for me is really tough."
"None of my old playmates joined me here."
"When spending my money, they called us blood brothers, promising to stand by me, but at crucial times, they run faster than rabbits."
"Facing life and death, who knows whether we’ll make it out, it’s quite normal."
Bai Qiaoqian said, "You’ve come to terms with it, so, did you manage to summon any friends or family?"
"Yes," Ruan Xiao remembered something, looking nostalgic, "My mom came. Before this, we didn’t have a good relationship."
"I grew up comfortably after my parents divorced when I was young, with a nice stepmom who mediated my mischief with my dad. But... it was all a facade."
"Obviously, you guessed I was spoiled."
Ah Chen was curious, "And then?"
"Then, my real mom showed up, which surprised me. Initially, I didn’t plan to tell her the truth about my death, but unexpectedly..." Ruan Xiao said with deep feeling, "She already suspected and had sent them to prison. This conversation helped resolve our misunderstandings."
"That’s quite unfortunate," Ma Qin, despite disliking men, couldn’t help but feel for him, realizing the mother and son were now worlds apart.
According to what she understood, only successfully summoning friends and family and ultimately leaving would return one to the time around their death.
If the summoning failed, one would be stuck as a monster, earning points indefinitely with no guarantee of success, risking total memory loss and never returning. Countless people enter daily, and while the Main God isn’t entirely malicious, they aren’t miraculously charitable either.
"I died by suicide," Ma Qin said, offering a startling answer without elaborating. "If I can, I want to get out; I have enemies."
She believed that with a high enough price, she could still return to the times around her death; she had to get out.
Bai Qiaoqian glanced at Ma Qin and said, "I died due to illness."
"I want to leave too."
Ma Qin and she exchanged a knowing look, suddenly realizing they possibly shared the same resolve to go the distance for a chance to return to the times around their death.
But thinking of Bai Qiaoqian, Ma Qin quickly averted her gaze, preferring her to bother those men than to disgust her.
Ah Chen found it amusing, and the office became relatively quiet. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
After grading the papers, the darkness descended but it wasn’t completely dark yet, and they each returned to their dorms.
"Hope everyone survives till tomorrow," Ruan Xiao waved at them with a smile.
Ma Qin coldly responded, "You should be the one hoping for good fortune."
Returning to the dorm, Ah Chen greeted the other three roommates.
But it was clear they were somewhat wary, fearing they might be the monsters.
"Stay alert tonight; don’t sleep too deeply. If something happens, lend a hand if possible," said one of the dorm girls. Even though she suspected Ah Chen and the others could be monsters, what if they weren’t? Facing issues together surely added strength.
No one answered, which left the girl looking a bit displeased, "Do you think it won’t work? If you don’t stick together and something goes wrong, don’t blame anyone else."
Bai Qiaoqian moved close, pitifully saying, "I think we should stick together, definitely. Say, do you have extra coins? Could you lend me some to buy a Resurrection Card? I seem to be short."
It wasn’t enough for the third card.
Ah Chen chuckled; this Bai Qiaoqian was quite amusing.
Ma Qin was speechless but suddenly found Bai Qiaoqian tolerable at this moment. Fine, as long as she disgusts others, just stay away from her.
